Raiders to sign former Bears DT Bilal Nichols

Former Bears DT Bilal Nichols is cashing in during free agency as he’s expected to sign with the Raiders.

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to sign former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Bilal Nichols, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It’s a two-year deal for Nichols worth $11 million with $9 million guaranteed.

The Bears let another key free agent walk, but it doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Chicago is expected to sign former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi to fill the important three-technique role. That coupled with the switch to a 4-3 scheme, Nichols’ exit wasn’t completely unexpected.

Nichols, a former fifth-round pick in 2018, has spent his entire career with Chicago. He’s been a key member of the Bears defensive line since his arrival, and he’s been one of the better success stories.

Last season, Nichols had 51 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and nine QB hits. It’s a solid signing for the Raiders, who get a productive, young starter in Nichols.

1 pending free agent each NFL team should bring back in 2022

NFL free agency 2022 starts just over two months from now. Here’s a look at who teams should keep among their pending free agents.

NFL contracts not signed beyond 2021 expire at 4 p.m. ET March 16, meaning that teams have from the end of the season until that time to sign their pending free agents to contract extensions. A few will get tagged (the franchise tag period begins Feb. 22), some will get extensions, but it’s a good bet most of the players set to reach unrestricted free agency will do so.

But if we were in charge, these are the players we’d keep — one per team as decided by the NFL Wire staff.

Giants manhandled by Bears, 29-3, in snowy Chicago

The New York Giants fell to the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field in a game that was very literally over after the first play.

The New York Giants took the field at a snowy Solider Field for a Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but they would have been better off just staying at home.

The Bears mopped the floor with the Giants from literally the first play of the game until the final whistle. New York was never in it, they never stood a chance and time slowed on the clock as everyone just wished the game would come to an end.

What more needs to be said? The Giants fall to 4-12 on the season.
