Iowa football fans are, along with other Big Ten fan bases, waiting for the Big Ten football scheduling announcement to drop. Before the scheduling format is revealed, everyone is wondering what the conference will do. This is, of course, of great interest to USC now that the Trojans are entering the Big Ten. USC and UCLA coaches and players are going to see how their travel schedules will be affected in the coming years. Fans who are planning to attend road games can begin to map out a strategy. It’s all going to be very interesting. For USC fans, it’s going to be brand new.
You might ask: What do various fan bases want from the Big Ten schedule? We asked Hawkeyes Wire editor Josh Helmer for his view of what Iowa fans want. In a discussion which will soon become a podcast — but which, at press time, is still in production — Helmer told us very simply that Iowa fans want their rivalries with Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin to be preserved. If Iowa fans have to deal with a Big Ten schedule in which the Hawkeyes (and other Big Ten teams) get three annual opponents, those are the three schools Hawkeye fans want, according to Helmer.
Later this month, we will release several Iowa-USC podcasts here at Trojans Wire, as our Big Ten tour continues. Also watch for reports and analysis on the Big Ten football scheduling announcement.
