Where did Nebraska land in the preseason Big Ten football poll ?

A familiar team has been selected to win this season’s conference championship!

For the 12th straight year, Cleveland.com has released the results of its preseason Big Ten football poll. Ohio State has been selected to win the Big Ten conference overall for the third straight year and is the first unanimous preseason favorite to win the conference championship since 2015. In the west, Wisconsin is the overwhelming favorite taking 31 of the 36 first-place votes, with Iowa and Minnesota each earning several votes.

Since Cleveland.com started its preseason Big Ten football poll in 2011, the Big Ten writers have only selected the correct preseason winners three times (2017, 2018, 2020). The publication was forced to take on the responsibility for organizing the poll after the Big Ten conference dropped the preseason poll 12 years ago. The voters comprise a “panel included beat writers from 13 of 14 Big Ten teams and some who cover the entire league or have a national perspective.”

Who is making the trip to Indianapolis later this month?

The Nebraska athletic department has finally announced who will join Head Football Coach Scott Frost at Big Ten Media Days in Indianapolis. The two-day event will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium on July 26th and 27th. The Huskers will participate in the festivities on the 26th with fellow Big Ten teams Indiana, Iowa, Marland, Michigan, Minnesota, and Northwestern. The 27th will see Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin.

Cornerback Quinton Newsome, linebacker Garrett Nelson, and tight end Travis Vokolek are the players who have been chosen to make the trip to the annual event. The Huskers are the opening team of the conference festivities as they are scheduled to meet with the media at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 26th.

Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano will have three player representatives at Big Ten Media Days.

Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano will be joined by three senior impact players for Big Ten Media Days in late July. The trio of tight end Johnny Langan, defensive back Avery Young and punter Adam Korsak will join their head coach for the annual conference event.

Big Ten Media Days will be at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on July 26-27.

The annual event allows national media as well as beat reporters to interact with players and head coaches from across the Big Ten.

The player representatives for Rutgers showcases the rebuilding talent on the Scarlet Knights. Korsak is an All-American on multiple lists and Langan as well as Young are both considered among the best at their position in the Big Ten.

The Iowa Hawkeyes will be part of Big Ten Media Day on July 26 in Indianapolis. They have released their representatives for the event.

The Iowa Hawkeyes will be taking part in Big Ten Media Days on July 26 in Indianapolis. The event runs July 26 to July 27 from within Lucas Oil Stadium, the site of the Big Ten Championship game.

The Hawkeyes will be in attendance alongside half of the conference. July 26 will include Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Northwestern. July 27 will consist of Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin.

The Hawkeyes will send four representatives to Indianapolis next week to discuss the upcoming 2022 college football season and field questions regarding all things to do with the team.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz is the headline representative for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Alongside Ferentz will be linebacker Jack Campbell, safety Kaevon Merriweather, and tight end Sam Laporta.

One common denominator for all three players is that they are seniors for the Hawkeyes. These three have earned the right to get this experience and represent Iowa in front of all Big Ten teams, fans, and the country.

The three of them look to have big years for the Hawkeyes in a multitude of different ways. Campbell will be the leader of the Iowa defense and commanding things as one of the best linebackers in the nation. LaPorta is one of the best tight ends in the country and will look to continue his rocket ship-like ascension. Merriweather will get his crack at becoming one of the next Iowa safeties to put their stamp on a secondary known for interceptions.

The most sure fire way to note that the college football season is nearly upon us is that conferences are starting to hold their media days.

The Big 12 has already had its media days conference, and with the SEC set to kick its multi-day presser this week, the Big Ten is set to hold its own at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Michigan football will enter as the reigning Big Ten champion, and is set to appear on Day 1, Tuesday. The conference announced all of the student-athlete participants on Monday and it turns out that the Wolverines will have four players appearing in Indianapolis.

Michigan will have two offensive players and two defensive players, though it usually brings three players total, with QB Cade McNamara and TE Erick All representing the offensive side, while DT Mazi Smith and CB DJ Turner representing the defense. All four players are seniors.

Perhaps the surprise here is that WR Ronnie Bell isn’t among the four representatives. Generally, the players who appear at media days are either enshrined leaders or expected leaders, though not all who attend are team captains, as Bell is.

Last year, the Wolverines brought Aidan Hutchinson, Josh Ross, and Hassan Haskins to the event.

According to a release from the Big Ten conference (subscription may be required) on Tuesday, the annual Big Ten football media days is going to be held in Indianapolis for the second-straight year.

The event was moved to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis last summer because of stricter COVID-19 policies in Chicago after the event was canceled in 2020. The conference must have liked how things ran in Indy, so things are returning on July 26 and 27.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and players representing the program are scheduled to meet with the media on Wednesday, July 27, along with Illinois, Michigan State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin.

The previous day, on Tuesday, July 26, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Northwestern are scheduled to make an appearance.

The announcement of Big Ten media days is just another mile marker that says the college football season is getting ever so closer.

After no official media day last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was a welcome sight seeing Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst take the podium and talk about what is to come in September.

Honestly, it was even welcome to see former Wisconsin HC Bret Bielema answer questions about his new job at Illinois.

If you need any indication about the significance of media days returning to an in-person environment, just take the beginning of Chryst’s opening statement: “I never thought I’d be saying this, but excited to be at media days and have the opportunity to get back to the new normal.”

Today was a big day. It was Ohio State football’s turn at the circus that is Big Ten media days on Friday. That of course meant that head coach Ryan Day was made available at the podium to provide updates on the team and to field questions from reporters.

Each coach gets about fifteen minutes in front of the firing squad during the coaches’ portion of the media event, but that can sometimes go a little over for a program like OSU.
