Notre Dame sophomore forward named Big Ten First Star of the Week

Congrats, Cole!

With the 2024-25 season barely underway for the Notre Dame hockey team, a prestigious honor already has been awarded. Specifically, the award has been given to sophomore forward [autotag]Cole Knuble[/autotag], the son of former NHL player Mike Knuble.

The Big Ten has announced its second Three Stars of the Week for the season, and Knuble has been named the First Star. He earned the honor after picking up four points, including three goals, over the Irish’s first two regular-season games against St. Lawrence and Clarkson.

Joining Knuble this week are Second Star Connor Kurth of Minnesota and Third Star Charlie Stramel of Michigan State.

Through two games, Knuble’s four points have tied him for the Irish lead in scoring. Also with that total is senior forward [autotag]Justin Janicke[/autotag], who picked up three of his four points on assists. Nobody on the team besides those two has more than two points so far:

The Irish will open their home schedule with games Saturday and Sunday against Alaska.

Former Wisconsin men’s hockey player among Big Ten alums in NHL Stanley Cup Final

Former Wisconsin men’s hockey player among Big Ten alums in NHL Stanley Cup Final

Former Wisconsin men’s hockey left wing Dylan Holloway is one of five Big Ten alums to reach the Stanley Cup Final this summer.

The 6-foot-1, 206-pounder will represent the Edmonton Oilers during their 2024 title run. Pitted against the Florida Panthers, the Edmonton Oilers laced up for game one on Saturday night in Sunrise, Florida.

Holloway will share the ice with fellow conference alumni Zach Hyman, William Lockwood, Mackie Samoskevich and Kyle Okposo. Hyman, Lockwood and Samoskevich represented the University of Michigan during their collegiate tenures, and Okposo attended the University of Minnesota before making the jump to the NHL.

Drafted 14th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, Holloway played his final season at UW in 2020-21. The same season, he earned a First-Team All-Big Ten nod and was named a Top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award as a sophomore.

Holloway appeared in 58 games during his two years in Madison and totaled 19 goals, 33 assists and 52 points from 2019-21.

Through two NHL seasons, the Bragg Creek, Alberta native has registered 18 points in 89 career games in Edmonton. He has scored three goals in 18 playoff games for the Oilers this postseason.

Two Michigan State hockey players honored with All-Big Ten selections

Two Michigan State hockey players honored with All-Big Ten selections

Well, this one might be a little controversial. Two Michigan State hockey players were honored with All-Big Ten selections on Tuesday, but only one of them made the First Team: Artyom Levshunov, the Spartans extremely talented freshman defenseman.

That’s not the one that may be controversial. What will be divisive is the fact that MSU goalie Trey Augustine was named to the Second Team, losing out on the First Team spot to Wisconsin goalie Kyle McClellan.

Both players were named to the All-Freshman team, as you’d expect.

In December, the Badgers swept the Buckeyes. Then during their next weekend series in February, Ohio State took three of the four points up for grabs, including an overtime win. That ended up being costly for Wisconsin as it gave Michigan State the regular season conference championship.

The stage is set for a huge weekend of hockey in the Big Ten, here’s how to catch all the action:
