Big Ten football power rankings after Week 10: The more things change …

The reshuffling of our Big Ten power rankings after Week 10.

We’re in the home stretch of the college football season and it won’t be long before we know which two teams will head to Indianapolis to battle in the Big Ten Championship game. Ohio State has nearly been a mainstay in the game lately, but this year, a few challengers have emerged to provide some potential resistance to a fifth-straight title.

It’s been a crazy year that has ebbed and flowed. Some thought Iowa was clearly the best team in the Big Ten, but that soured quickly when the defense couldn’t create turnovers. Then it was Michigan and Michigan State that got their turns as the perception beast.

Now, as we sit here with just three games to go on the schedule in Big Ten play, Ohio State is still right there back in first place in the East Division. I guess that’s what everyone gets for writing the Buckeyes off early in the season after a loss to Oregon.

But we digress. Each week we try and sort out which teams in the league are playing the best from worst to first, and it’s no different this week. Here’s a look at our latest Big Ten football power rankings after Week 10.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 9: A new contender emerges.

With a couple of key games in the league, how do things stack up with our Big Ten power rankings after Week 9?

With each passing week, the pecking order in the Big Ten becomes clearer and clearer. We’re now nine weeks into the college football season, five of those in-conference, so we’re now more than halfway through the league schedule.

The game of the week in college football took place in East Lansing and gave Michigan State a big boost in what we all thought its ceiling was. But how does Michigan’s loss affect its standing in the league, and what about Ohio State having to tough out a game against Penn State team that shot its best shot to spring an upset in Columbus?

We digest it all and give you our latest Big Ten football power rankings after nine weeks of play.

Big Ten football power rankings after week 8: What’s for real, and what’s not?

After another week in the Big Ten, where does each team stand in our latest power rankings?

Another week of Big Ten football play is in the books, and while only ten of the fourteen teams were in action, we still saw a lot that’s had us re-think the power rankings for this week.

It’s beginning to look more and more like the king of the conference is still the king of the conference and that the biggest threat might be an old rival from up north. But where do the rest of the teams stand? Who is No. 1, and who can contend with the top dog of the league? Where have we seen improvement, and which teams are regressing?

Let’s get after it. Here are the latest Big Ten football power rankings after Week 8 of the college football season.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 7: Order restored

How did this week’s action change our weekly Big Ten football power rankings? Who is on top and how far does Iowa fall?

Week 7 is in the books, and despite a somewhat abbreviated schedule in the Big Ten, Iowa going down with an offense that looked like a Ford Pinto with the doors hanging off did a lot to shake things up.

Here at Buckeyes Wire, we already had Iowa slipping down from the top spot because of how inept that side of the ball looked, but the loss will still impact this week’s edition of the power rankings. Where far down does Iowa fall? What about teams like Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State that were idle? Did Michigan State’s win over Indiana do anything to move it up the rankings?

We try to give you what you crave and we’ll get to it. Here are our latest Big Ten football power rankings after Week 7.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 6: Return of the king

A new look at the Big Ten football power rankings after Week 6. Who would you put on top at this point in time?

What a week of college football. Not just in the Big Ten, but across the country as the CFB gods blessed us with several epic games and drama we crave. And it never gets old. Just when you think college football has served up one of the best seasons ever, we seem to do it all over again the following year.

So far this season, we’ve seen several of the top dogs go down not even halfway through the schedule. Ohio State and Clemson lost early on, Notre Dame fell last week, and Alabama received a mark in the right-hand column this past weekend. If any year is wide open, it’s this one.

Now, about the Big Ten. Each week we rank teams based on who is playing best in our weekly power rankings, and it sure looked like the league was as wide open as it had been in a long time. Ohio State struggled to find its identity and personnel early, while teams like Iowa, Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State defeated all challengers.

Iowa, Michigan, and Michigan State are still unbeaten, but Penn State fell from the top of the hill to No. Iowa on Saturday. Then, there’s the big scarlet and gray elephant in the room. Not so quietly, the Buckeyes are again looking like the Buckeyes with arguably the best offense in the country and an ever-improving defense.

That all has changed our Big Ten power rankings after Week 6, with what we call a return of the king.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 5: Ohio State back among the best of the league?

We scramble our power rankings after another week in the Big Ten. Did Ohio State do enough to move up?

Each week, we take a look back and try to determine what team in the Big Ten is playing the best on the football field. For the longest time, that team has often been Ohio State. However, early this season, we’ve seen some struggles from the team wearing scarlet and gray, with others like Iowa, Penn State, and Michigan rising up to challenge the bully on the block.

So yeah, for the first time in a few seasons, Ohio State’s perch among our power rankings has slipped. It’s the first real sign of adversity in the league we’ve seen since Ryan Day put the whistle around his neck after the 2019 Rose Bowl.

But now that the Buckeyes have had two very impressive weeks, has that changed our power rankings at all? In short, yes, but is it enough to move OSU to the top?

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 4: Who really knows what’s going on after a stale week?

After a very stale performance from the Big Ten, we do our best to sort out the latest football power rankings.

We thought we had a pretty good idea of what the pecking order was beginning to look like in the Big Ten after three weeks of play. But after Week 4, we’re ready to throw our hands in the air and get out the dartboard and magic-eight ball.

Iowa, who had looked like arguably the best performing team so far this year, looked like it couldn’t get out of its own way on offense against Colorado State, Michigan struggled against Rutgers, and Penn State won, but not as convincingly as you’d expect against a Villanova team that wasn’t dribbling a basketball.

Meanwhile, Ohio State looked like Ohio State again — albeit against a very poor Akron squad, Michigan State kept winning, and Maryland remained undefeated.

We say all of that to tell you to forgive us in advance because we’re just trying our best to sort it all out for our Week 4 power rankings. Here we go. I’m sure it’ll change again next week in a year that’s been very hard to figure out.

Big Ten Football power rankings after Week 3: Power at the top?

Another week, another challenge in ranking the power of Big Ten football teams, especially at the top.

The Big Ten had a very good day on Saturday. Penn State took down SEC foe Auburn, Minnesota blasted a Colorado team that just gave Texas A&M all it could handle last week, and Michigan State embarrassed Miami (FL).

That in combination with Ohio State and Iowa not putting their best foot forward this week makes the power rankings even more challenging than previous weeks to figure out. Oh, and don’t forget about Michigan putting up 63 points against Northern Illinois.

The Big Ten, unlike recent years, looks more wide open than it has in a long time, and these power rankings are sure to reshuffle weekly as we continue to see the teams at the top battle it out. It’ll get even more interesting when the heart of conference play starts.

But enough about all of that. Here’s where we see the Big Ten football power rankings after Week 3.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 1

How do things look with the power rankings in the Big Ten after one week?

Finally.

College football is back and what a week it was. Yeah, yeah, we had a weird week 0 game between Illinois and Nebraska in the Big Ten, but this was the week that really mattered, especially if you are an Ohio State fan.

The Buckeyes looked a little wavering in the first half then won as expected, Penn State got a good, good win on the road at Wisconsin, and Iowa looked fantastic.

Each week we take a stab at the pecking order in the Big Ten based on the body of work, and at this point, there’s not much, but we still have some real, live games to go by rather than thoughts and narratives in our heads (okay, to be real that still happens in my noggin’).

So here we go, the first crack at the Big Ten football power rankings after one week of play with fans in the glorious stands once again.
