2023 NFL draft: The consensus big board top 75 prospects

Reviewing the top 75 overall ranked prospects in the 2023 NFL draft going by the consensus big board.

Thanks to the Russell Wilson trade and his subsequent implosion, the Seahawks hold five picks in the first three rounds of the 2023 NFL draft. While some teams are able to find gems on Day 3, the bulk of the quality prospects for this year will be selected in those first three rounds.

We have already gone over the top prospects at each position according to the consensus big board. Now, let’s zoom out to give you a more complete view of the high-end talent in this class. Here are the top 75 ranked players in the draft, per the consensus big board.

2023 NFL draft big board: Top 150 prospects

Presenting the top 150 prospects for the 2023 NFL draft from Draft Wire’s Jeff Risdon

In a few short days, the 2023 NFL draft will be live in Kansas City. It puts an end to months of evaluation of draft prospects and projections.

Figuring out where the players will wind up being drafted is a very different discipline than grading the players and coming up with a final ranking. Separating the two is critical.

With that said, here is my final 2023 NFL draft big board ranking of players.

This is my own board and does not represent the views or ratings of my Draft Wire colleagues in any way. It is not meant to project the draft order.

A bit about my process for ranking the players…

Film study is the basis for all grading, but there are other factors. I tend to value injuries more than most evaluators, especially repeated soft tissue injuries. Relative athleticism for the position matters, as does a player’s progression across the course of his career. Is there upside and is it coachably attainable?

In situations where the grades are effectively the same, I more highly rank the player I’m more confident in achieving his success.

Ravens set to meet with Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba ahead of 2023 NFL draft

The Ravens are set to host Ohio State wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba for a pre-draft visit

After signing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. over the weekend the Baltimore Ravens are looking to grow their stable of pass catchers even more in the upcoming NFL draft. The team is set to host standout Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba this week as they solidify their draft board.

Smith-Njigba was a key cog in the Buckeyes’ offense last year and is one of the most prized prospects in the 2023 draft class. His ability to make contested catches and rare athleticism have attracted the attention of scouts across the league, and some analysts have predicted that he will be the first wideout to come off the board when the annual selection meeting commences later in April.

Though their aspirations of securing his talents are certainly warranted, the Ravens will be lucky if Smith-Njigba falls far enough in the first round for Baltimore to make a play on him. Unless the team has a plan in place to trade up, Ravens fans should view this visit as nothing more than a formality for Baltimore, which is simply doing its due diligence on one of this year’s most promising wideouts.

NFL Draft: Tyler Forness’ big board 1.0

After scouting 50 players in this draft cycle, @TheRealForno releases his first big board consisting of only the players he’s watched.

The NFL draft is only 31 days away and we are getting closer and closer to seeing how things will shake out.

Throughout the last few months, I have spent a lot of time scouting players and writing scouting reports on the best of the best. While I haven’t gotten through all of the top players, I have officially completed 50 scouting reports across multiple positions, with more than half of them coming from the cornerback and wide receiver positions.

Keep in mind that I haven’t watched any offensive lineman or Jalen Carter yet, but I have gotten to nearly all of the first round talent in this draft. I will be getting to them over the coming weeks and updating my big board in time.

Without further ado, here are the top 50 players that I have scouted so far with the top 21 having first round grades.

Mel Kiper Jr’s updated Top-25: UGA DL Jalen Carter still No. 1

Jalen Carter still at the top, Broderick Jones drops…

It’s NFL combine week, which means ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has updated his top 25 big board as draft prospects make the trip to Indianapolis to showcase their skills for NFL teams.

Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter has been at the top of Kiper’s rankings since the initial list in December and remains No. 1 overall ahead of the combine.

Despite missing two games hobbled by a knee injury, Carter’s disruptive interior presence on Georgia’s defensive line as the Bulldogs secured another national title didn’t go unnoticed.

“I moved Carter to No. 1 in my December Big Board update, and he finished the season playing the best ball of his career. He had 12 quarterback pressures in his final three games for the back-to-back national champs, showing that he can wreck games from the interior. He was fantastic after he returned in late October from missing two games because of a knee issue. Check out this show of force in the SEC title game against LSU. Georgia had five defenders picked in Round 1 last April, and Carter arguably was more disruptive than all of them in 2021. He’s explosive at the snap and finishes well around the ball, even though he had just six career sacks. Carter is in the conversation for the top pick — if the Bears keep it.”

According to reports, the Chicago Bears are considering moving the No. 1 overall pick, which could hurt Carter’s chances at becoming the second consecutive No. 1 selection for the Bulldogs.

The All-American has elected not to participate in workouts in Indianapolis and will workout at Georgia’s pro day on March 15.

UGA offensive tackle Broderick Jones has dropped off of Kiper’s big board in the new update after coming in at No. 24 in December.

Jones is still rated as the No. 3 offensive tackle in Kiper’s positional rankings, and will participate in workouts with the offensive lineman on March 5.

2023 NFL draft: Top 50 prospects heading into combine week

Draft Wire’s Natalie Miller ranks the top 50 overall prospects in the 2023 NFL draft class heading into this year’s Scouting Combine

After an instant classic of a Super Bowl, and an eventual all-star circuit, the next big mile marker on the NFL calendar is the Scouting Combine, otherwise known as the biggest job interview in professional football.

More than 300 of this year’s top draft hopefuls will gather in Indianapolis for the opportunity to show off their skills to NFL decision-makers.

As players and teams alike prepare for a big week in Indy, here’s an updated look at the top 50 prospects in this year’s draft class:

Doug Farrar’s top-50 big board full of talent at key positions for Packers

Taking a look at how Doug Farrar’s top 50 big board at Touchdown Wire lines up with the Packers’ biggest roster needs.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire recently put together his pre-NFL Scouting Combine top-50 big board. The good news for the Green Bay Packers is that at several of their biggest positions of need, they should have some prospects to choose from when they are on the clock in the early rounds.

On Farrar’s big board, he has 10 edge rushers listed. The depth of the edge rusher position for the Packers was a concern last offseason, and it remains one. Without Rashan Gary during the latter half of last season, Green Bay struggled to generate regular pressure. This is also a position that is heavily rotated, with OLB Coach Jason Rebrovich saying that he wants a four-man rotation each week. However, as of now, we don’t know when Gary will return, and behind Preston Smith and JJ Enagbare on the depth chart are the inexperienced La’Darius Hamilton and Jonathan Garvin, who was often inactive in 2022.

(4) Will Anderson, Alabama
(8) Myles Murphy, Clemson
(10) Tyree Wilson, Texas Tech
(14) Keion White, Georgia Tech
(31) Nolan Smith, Georgia
(33) Lukas Van Ness, Iowa
(38) Derick Hall, Auburn
(40) Will McDonald, Iowa State
(44) Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Kansas State
(48) Tuli Tuipulotu, USC

Receiver is again another position of need for the Packers. Christian Watson looks like a true No. 1 threat, while Romeo Doubs can be a reliable third option, but this unit as a whole still needs more playmaking, with the only other options on the roster currently being Samori Toure, Bo Melton and Jeff Cotton. Green Bay should absolutely look to add a veteran to the mix in free agency since this is such a young room, but that shouldn’t in any way impact how they approach the draft at receiver.

(12) Quentin Johnston, TCU
(15) Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State
(18) Jordan Addison, USC
(26) Jalen Hyatt, Tennessee
(32) Zay Flowers, Boston Colleg
(47) Josh Downs, UNC

Tight end and safety round out what I would consider the four biggest needs that the Packers have to address this offseason, and both have similar requirements. The only experienced players on the roster at either position are Josiah Deguara, who is more of an H-back, and Darnell Savage, who was benched at one point last season–so depth is a must. On top of that, both positions need more playmaking. Robert Tonyan was the only pass-catching threat at the position in 2022; however, he averaged less than nine yards per catch. The safety position, meanwhile, was responsible for too many broken plays and missed tackles.

The good news is that the Packers should have the opportunity within the first two rounds to address tight end, with four players in Farrar’s top 50. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com has six tight ends in his top 50 prospects.

(16) Michael Mayer, Notre Dame
(22) Dalton Kincaid, Utah
(37) Darnell Washington, Georgia
(39) Luke Musgrave Oregon State

On the flip side, the safety position is lacking that high-end depth at the top of the draft class. Only two safeties made Farrar’s initial top 50, and both Brian Branch and Antonio Johnson played more of a slot cornerback role than a traditional safety, which is what the Packers really need.

(24) Brian Branch, Alabama
(29) Antonio Johnson, Texas A&M

Two other positions worth noting are offensive tackle and the interior defensive line. As we look at the Packers’ offensive tackle depth for 2023, it appears to be in pretty good shape. However, the draft is about planning ahead, and this is a position group that could be very thin by 2024. A year from now, there is the potential that David Bakhtiari could be a salary cap casualty while Yosh Nijman will be an unrestricted free agent. Although Caleb Jones and Rasheed Walker have shown a lot of promise, we have no clue if either can become a starting-caliber player.

(7) Paris Johnson, Ohio State
(13) Peter Skoronski, Northwestern
(17) Broderick Jones, Georgia
(21) Anton Harrison, Oklahoma
(42) Darnell Wright, Tennessee

Lastly, the Packers need to find a fourth member for their interior defensive line rotation to join Kenny Clark, Devonte Wyatt, and TJ Slaton. The play from this group was largely inconsistent in 2022, but a key contributor to the defense’s late-season success was the improved player up front that included more steady pressure and better play against the run. The best way to wreck an offensive game plan is through interior pressure. One surefire way for this Green Bay defense to play better football in 2023 is by having a greater impact from the interior defensive line unit.

(1) Jalen Carter, Georgia
(19) Bryan Bersee, Clemson
(41) Jiaki Ika, Baylor
(45) Keeanu Benton, Wisconsin
(46) Calijah Kancey, Pitt

Another loaded position in this year’s draft class is cornerback, with seven players making Farrar’s top 50. However, in terms of need for the Packers, cornerback is likely low on the list.

Georgia DL Jalen Carter ranked No. 1 prospect by Daniel Jeremiah

A commonly mocked player to the Cardinals is Daniel Jeremiah’s No. 1 player in the 2023 NFL draft.

The Arizona Cardinals have the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NFL draft. That means they will be able to select one of the best players in the draft class.

Because of how quarterbacks get drafted, it is possible they could land the No. 1-rated player in the draft.

NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah released his first version of the top 50 prospects in the 2023 draft and sitting at number one is a player often projected to the Cardinals in mock drafts.

His top player is Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

Carter is a highly disruptive player with the versatility to line up at any position along the defensive front. Against the pass, he has an explosive first step and understands how to work through the edges of blockers. He jars opponents with his initial strike before clearing his hips and closing in on the quarterback. He has the change-of-direction ability of a player 40-to-50 pounds lighter. He can use pure power to run through single blocks and possesses the quickness to split double teams. Against the run, he is firm and strong at the point of attack and has the range to make plays on the perimeter. The only negative is that he ends up on the ground a little too much. Overall, Carter is a real difference maker and must be accounted for on every snap.

Carter’s statistical production is a question mark. He had only three sacks at seven tackles for loss in 2022. He had three sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss in 2021, both of Georgia’s championship seasons.

With a top-five selection, it makes sense to get a stud interior defensive lineman who doesn’t have to come off the field on passing downs and can put up large pressure and sack numbers.

Can Carter be that? That is the question.

Jeremiah certainly thinks so.

2023 NFL draft top-50 list: 6 Alabama players named as top prospects

The 2023 NFL Draft is projected to be LOADED with current Alabama players, especially in the first round!

Though the 2022 NFL regular season is still a few months away from kicking off, it’s never too early to look ahead to the next draft.

The 2023 NFL draft will be loaded with talent and is expected to be a much stronger class than the recent 2022 draft.

Alabama is known for sending multiple players to the league via the draft, especially in the first round. Next year will is projected to be a big one for the Crimson Tide, as the program could once again tie the record for the most picks in the first round with six, or potentially break the record.

CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards put together a list of the top-50 collegiate players that will be eligible for the 2023 draft following the 2022 college football season. Over 10% of the players mentioned are members of the Crimson Tide.
