Bengals make last-second roster moves before Week 15 vs. Titans

Some late roster moves for the Bengals before they play the Titans in Week 15.

The Cincinnati Bengals made a few roster moves before kickoff against the Tennessee Titans in Week 15, with at least one a direct response to an injury.

There, the Bengals announced the signing of quarterback Logan Woodside to the active roster and shifted linebacker Joe Bachie to injured reserve.

Specifically for Sunday’s game, the team elevated offensive tackle Andrew Coker and kicker Cade York to the active roster.

At quarterback, the Bengals tend to do this every year in December. Woodside’s promotion is less about Joe Burrow’s knee injury last week (no injury report status) and more likely about preventing other teams from signing him off their practice squad.

Coker, though, is up for the game because Cody Ford got downgraded to questionable due to an illness. He is supposed to start in place of Orlando Brown Jr. at left tackle.

York, like last week, will get the nod in place of Evan McPherson.

Bengals shut down Evan McPherson amid roster moves

The Bengals made several more notable roster moves.

The Cincinnati Bengals effectively ended Evan McPherson’s season on Wednesday before the team takes on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14.

The Bengals confirmed the reported signing of kicker Cade York. In the announcement of roster moves, the team also confirmed McPherson would go to injured reserve and announced the signing of offensive tackle Andrew Stueber to the active roster.

McPherson had a wildly disappointing season before what the team is calling a groin injury. That, after signing his extension this past offseason.

While McPherson could technically return to the active roster for Week 18 after missing the mandatory four games, it’s hard to imagine the Bengals let that happen with the season effectively lost.

Bengals sign kicker after Evan McPherson injury news

Roster moves for the Bengals after a surprise injury.

The Cincinnati Bengals surprised on Wednesday before Week 14 by revealing that kicker Evan McPherson could miss a few weeks with a groin injury.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Bengals signed kicker Cade York to the practice squad, and he will be the starting kicker for the team with McPherson sidelined.

The groin injury for McPherson apparently won’t end his season, but it is significant enough that the team felt it necessary to add outside help in the interim.

York has previously spent time with the Commanders and Browns. As for McPherson, as of this writing, no word on if this injury has played a role in his poor season to date.

Bengals make roster moves after loss to Steelers

The Bengals are starting to make moves after the loss.

Those expecting the Cincinnati Bengals to make big roster moves or coaching changes after what was effectively a season-ending loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers will have to wait.

But the Bengals did make roster moves on the day after the loss.

There, the team waived wideout Trenton Irwin and signed linebacker Shaka Heyward off the practice squad to the active roster.

This one could signal an alarm bell around the Logan Wilson knee injury. That, or the team is about to bench somebody from the current linebacker unit after two surprising lineup changes against the Steelers.

Either way, this probably won’t be the only roster moves news of the week for the Bengals.

Bengals make roster moves before Week 13 vs. Steelers

Some roster moves for the Bengals as they get ready for the first game after a bye.

The Cincinnati Bengals made a few minor housekeeping moves before they took on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13.

There, the Bengals signed offensive lineman Andrew Stueber to the practice squad after waiving him mid-week while doing some roster shuffling.

In a corresponding move, the Bengals signed Devin Cochran to the active roster off the practice squad.

For now, at least, Cochran getting promoted doesn’t seem to indicate anything about the health of the starters in front of Joe Burrow. That’s especially the case with the team already confirming that Orlando Brown Jr. would be back this week against the Steelers.

Beyond improving depth, perhaps the Bengals were worried another team would sign Cochran off their practice squad and wanted to protect him.

Bengals avoid waiver wire in Week 13 despite obvious needs

The Bengals avoided adding an upgrade on the waiver wire.

Needing to essentially win each of their next six games to have a chance at the playoffs, the Cincinnati Bengals passed up on waiver wire help in Week 13.

There, the team could have put in a claim on Carolina Panthers edge rusher Charles Harris, owner of 19.5 sacks. Instead, Harris went to the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that was lower on the waiver wire order than Cincinnati.

It’s surprising to see the Bengals say no thanks to help right now. Granted, long-term fans will say it isn’t really all that shocking — and who could blame them?

Still, Harris has more sacks (3) this season than any player on the Bengals roster not named Trey Hendrickson. Joseph Ossai has seen a small uptick play, Sam Hubbard is playing through a season-long injury and former first-rounder Myles Murphy just can’t seem to break onto the field.

Rather than add some new help to the mix, the Bengals stood still. They added a back-of-depth chart wideout on the waiver wire in early November and a cornerback last month,

Bengals make roster moves at key spots before Week 11 vs. Chargers

The Bengals make a few 53-man roster changes before Week 11.

Running back and tight end have been two points of emphasis lately for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Before Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Bengals made two roster moves involving those positions.

The team announced the release of running back Kendall Milton and the signing of tight end Cam Grandy to the active roster from the practice squad.

The Bengals had only just added Milton back at the start of the month. But trading for a running back and signing another free agent were two other moves the team has since made to help the depth chart.

As for tight end, there are calls for Mike Gesicki to get more usage in the offense. Grandy has been on the practice squad for most of the season and his arrival bolsters the depth there.

Bengals claim former Lions player on waiver wire after Week 10

The Bengals claimed a player on the waiver wire.

The Cincinnati Bengals swiped a player from the waiver wire on Friday after the team’s Week 10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

There, the team added wide receiver Isaiah Williams, who was just released by the Detroit Lions the day prior.

Undrafted out of Illinois, Williams was a success story in Detroit as he surged up the depth chart and made the initial 53-man roster.

A 5’10” weapon with skills as a returner on special teams, this addition for the Bengals probably says more about the injury status of Charlie Jones than it does about Tee Higgins.

Either way, the Bengals aren’t totally opposed to adding outside talent and wide receiver continues to be a notable injury spot to watch on the roster.

Bengals make roster moves after NFL trade deadline

Some roster moves and injured reserve news for the Bengals right after the NFL trade deadline.

The Cincinnati Bengals made some notable roster moves after Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline saw them bring aboard running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears.

There, the team moved running back Zack Moss and tight end Erick All Jr. to injured reserve.

Based on how the team has talked about Moss’ sudden neck injury — discovered last Friday — he won’t be back this season, barring a shocker.

As for All, the breakout rookie tight end tore his ACL during last weekend’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders, suffering the injury in the same knee that derailed his draft stock last year.

Herbert’s arrival helps balance things out for the offense with Moss sidelined, as he’ll work in with Chase Brown, potentially as soon as Thursday night. Tight end was one of the team’s deepest positions, though they might look for help on something like the waiver wire if they want to keep effectively running 12 personnel.

Infamous former Bengals player lands with Commanders

A well-known former Bengals player is on the move.

For Cincinnati Bengals fans, Bobby Hart is just one of those names that will always earn a shake of the head.

Hart was a focal point of a strange era for the team, to say the least. And he continues to bounce around the NFL after his post-Bengals days, this time landing on the Washington Commanders’ practice squad, according to the Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala.

A former seventh-round pick, Hart joined the Bengals in 2018 and started every game at right tackle, earning a 57.1 and a strange three-year extension from the Bengals. He went for a 57.6 grade the following year and was cut by March of 2021.

Since, Hart has bounced around with the Buffalo Bills (three times!) and other spots while the Bengals, after names like Riley Reiff and moving Jonah Willaims to the right side, have settled on first-rounder Amarius Mims.
