2 Bears games among the most in demand this NFL season

The Chicago Bears may not be a popular pick to be a good team but they’re still a hot ticket this season.

The national sentiment may not be very favorable for the Chicago Bears heading into the 2022 season, seeing as various analysts and pundits have made them a popular pick to be one of the worst teams in the league. Even with those expectations, however, the Bears appear to be a hot ticket in 2022.

Darren Rovell of The Action Network posted the most in-demand games from the upcoming NFL season using data from StubHub and the Bears are featured in two of them. Their road matchups against the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys are No. 6 and No. 7 on the list, respectively.

The Bears renew their rivalry with Green Bay early in the regular season, making the trip north in week two for Sunday Night Football, while they head down to Dallas in late October in week eight for a reunion with the Cowboys. It will be their first road game against the Cowboys since 2016.

If you’re looking for tickets for one of those games, you will likely need to pay a pretty penny. According to StubHub, the lowest ticket price for Bears vs. Packers is $219 as of this article. For Bears vs. Cowboys, tickets are significantly cheaper with standing room-only tickets as low as $41, but get more expensive for actual seats.

Regardless of the ticket price, fans are marking down these Bears games on their calendar and there should be plenty of road fans in both stadiums. The most in-demand NFL game of the year takes place in week one when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the Cowboys in primetime.

The Bears will not have fans at Soldier Field…at least right now

The Bears issued a statement explaining that currently no fans will be allowed at Soldier Field in 2020 to ensure their health and safety.

With the Chicago Bears’ season opener just 27 days away, the team has finally addressed whether or not fans will be allowed to attend games at Soldier Field.

The Bears issued a statement explaining that, at present, no fans will be allowed at Soldier Field in 2020 to ensure “the health and safety of the city’s residents and fans of the Bears.”

They didn’t rule out the possibility of fans attending games at Soldier Field later in the year should the stadium be “deemed safe and appropriate.” But, for now, Soldier Field will not have fans in the stands.

Here’s the full statement issued by the Bears:

“The Chicago Bears, Soldier Field’s management partner, ASM Global, the Chicago Park District and public health officials have worked together to assess whether a responsible plan that follows City, State, CDC and NFL guidelines could be developed to safely accommodate a limited number of fans at Soldier Field this season. After discussing a draft plan with City health officials, the Bears and the City of Chicago agreed the health metrics show that it is not the right time to welcome fans back to Soldier Field. The health and safety of the city’s residents and fans of the Bears will always take priority. The team and City will continue to monitor the environment and believe there can be a sound plan in place to bring fans back to Soldier Field once it is deemed safe and appropriate. Until then, Bears home games will not include in-person fans.”

The City of Chicago also issued a statement:

“We applaud the Chicago Bears for taking the right measures to protect their fans, athletes and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have been working closely with the team, ASM Global, Soldier Field’s management partner, the Chicago Department of Public Health and the Chicago Park District to monitor the health metrics and provide guidance on when it is safe to allow fans back. While this is not the football season we would have hoped for, we will still be rooting for the Bears, and we look forward to the day we can cheer them on again from the stands.”

The Bears are slated to host the New York Giants on Sept. 20 in their home opener, which will look a lot different than in the past.

Could we see virtual Bears fans at Soldier Field on game days?

If Bears fans aren’t allowed at Soldier Field in 2020, the NFL is considering using virtual fans in stadiums on game day.

The Chicago Bears still haven’t made a decision on whether they’ll be allowing fans at Soldier Field this season. That has a lot to do with the current social distancing guidelines in place for the state of Illinois. But they haven’t shot down the possibility like some other teams have.

But if the Bears decide not to allow fans in the stands in 2020, there might still be a way to integrate fans into the stands of Soldier Field.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the NFL is considering using virtual fans at stadiums on game days. The NBA uses a similar model in their virtual bubble at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The league must get creative because of the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. The Las Vegas Raiders have announced that no fans will attend home games for the inaugural season in Allegiant Stadium, and fans will not be permitted in several other stadiums across the league under current conditions.

Some teams still are hoping for 33% to 40% capacity in their stadiums to start the season, but that’s hardly a slam dunk given the national spike in positive tests.

Either way, the NFL is prepared to enhance the game-day experience with potentially sizable virtual backdrops inside stadiums, the source said.

Enhanced virtual advertising also is an option to fill vacant seats.

The Bears previously announced that there will be no season-ticket packages for the 2020 season, and that if fans are allowed at Soldier Field, tickets would be made available on a single-game basis exclusively to season ticket holders. If Bears fans are allowed at games this year, they’ll be required to wear masks at all times.

The Bears have also offered up full refunds for season ticket holders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. With no season tickets, the team announced that all season ticket holders will receive a refund or their 2020 payments can be credited to the 2021 season.
