Former Raiders HC Jon Gruden shares story of infamous gaffe at Arrowhead Stadium

Over the weekend, former #Raiders HC Jon Gruden shared a story about an infamous gaffe he made at Arrowhead Stadium in 2020.

This story was updated because an earlier version included an inaccuracy.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders are party to one of the most intense rivalries in sports, which often leads to heated incidents between the storied franchises.

During the Chiefs’ divisional-round win against the Houston Texans on Saturday in the AFC playoffs, former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden gave fans some insight into one such incident.

In the middle of a watch party hosted by Barstool Sports, Gruden told his co-streamers a story about an infamous victory lap he took around Arrowhead Stadium with Las Vegas’ players in 2020 after the Raiders narrowly defeated Kansas City.

Take a look at what the longtime coach had to say in this video, which was posted to Twitter:

Gruden’s victory lap was not well received in Western Missouri and ultimately backfired after he lost to the Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium six weeks later.

Despite Kansas City’s longtime rivalry with the Raiders, Gruden’s infamous victory lap is mostly considered to have been harmless in hindsight, especially given the Chiefs’ dominance over Las Vegas in recent seasons.

College football commentator roasts Jayden Maiava’s bowl performance

Jayden Maiava’s bowl effort certainly failed to give USC fans confidence that the Trojans have a clear-cut QB1 for 2025. This will remain a talking point.

To say USC quarterback Jayden Maiava had a rocky performance in the Las Vegas Bowl would be a massive understatement.

The Trojans’ signal-caller completed 56.4% of his passes, and he made numerous really bad mistakes, including three costly interceptions. However, he stepped up his game late, leading multiple clutch touchdown drives, including the game-winner in the final minutes.

Despite his late improvements, however, Maiava’s performance drew criticism nationally, raising doubt whether he will be USC’s starting QB in 2025. One commentator offered harsh words about the performance on social media.

“Maiava experiment at USC been a massive failure,” said Liam Blutman of Barstool Sports, who also runs the popular “No Context College Football” Twitter account.

“Wish he stuck at UNLV. Instead he went to the school of Caleb Williams Cosplaying and it’s completely neutered his development. Way to go Lincoln!”

It should be noted that this was tweeted during the game, before Maiava led the fourth-quarter comeback. Even factoring that in, there was enough ugliness from his performance to give USC fans concern.

While it is possible that Lincoln Riley pursues a transfer QB this offseason to compete for the job, the most likely scenario is Maiava is USC’s starting QB heading into 2025. Given how his 2024 season ended, it is understandable how that might cause unease among the USC fan base.

PGA Tour unveils its inaugural Creator Council with the likes of Paige Spiranac, No Laying Up and Barstool Sports

“It’s clear that there is a new fan base, a next generation of fans that want to consume content and learn about golf through different channels in different ways.”

Following the success of its initial PGA Tour Creator Classic at the Tour Championship in August, the PGA Tour is leaning into working with YouTube content creators and influencers. On Friday, the Tour announced the PGA Tour Creator Council, which will consist of up to 10 top creators in the golf space. The Council is initially made up of the following creators (listed in alphabetical order):

  • Bob Does Sports
  • Bryan Bros Golf
  • Erik Anders Lang
  • Foreplay/Barstool Sports
  • No Laying Up
  • Paige Spiranac
  • Roger Steele
  • Tisha Alyn
  • Two more to be announced at a later time

“The Creator Council is about the Tour evolving,” said Andy Weitz, the PGA Tour’s chief marketing & communications officer/investor relations. “It’s clear that there is a new fan base, a next generation of fans that want to consume content and learn about golf in general through different channels in different ways. It just makes sense to connect from those who are doing it well, who are maybe doing it best and learn from them what we can do better and what we can do together.”

The Creator Classic, which saw 16 creators play the back nine of East Lake Golf Club the day before the first round of the Tour Championship, proved to be the tipping point of an increased push by the Tour to integrate the industry’s top content creators into the professional game. The event aired live on Golf Channel, ESPN+, Peacock and YouTube. The YouTube video has amassed 2.5 million views, with another 2.8 million views across the 16 content creators’ individual YouTube videos of the event.

Weitz, Norb Gambuzza, executive vice president of media and marketing and communications representatives will represent the Tour. The goal is for the Creator Council to speak on a monthly basis and meet at least three times a year in person – likely at Tour events – which could potentially be opportunities to hold additional iterations of the Creator Classic, and discuss a variety of different topics and share best practices. Initially, the focus will be on collaborative content development and fan engagement, but other topics on the table include PGA Tour media regulations and PGA Tour event/broadcast enhancements.

“This is an example of the Tour asking for feedback and knowing we’re going to be accountable to evolving alongside these creators — all in the service of reaching our fans and engaging them in new and different ways,” he said.

Weitz said the Tour’s embrace of the content creators and influencers is driven by a series of things.

“First of all, our recognition that the next generation of fans want to engage differently. Golf is growing and thriving, especially on YouTube, but there’s an opportunity to create bridges, if you will, to create PGA Tour fans,” Weitz said. “Secondly, our players are getting younger, they are getting more savvy and this is of their generation and they want to engage directly with their fans in this way. We want to make sure we are working alongside them to make that as effective as possible.

“And third, I think it’s an example of the Tour wanting to go further, faster on behalf of the fans. If that’s something new, that’s something we hope to demonstrate more of in the future. From my perspective that’s not something new. What might be new is that we want to talk more directly to the fans through the marketplace and our stakeholders about how we’re evolving and we think this is a great example of that.”

Jets’ Aaron Rodgers even noted the Bills are ‘New York’s only team’

Truth guy:

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the type of man that might have the word “truther” attached to his name for various reasons.

The one we’re going to talk about now relates to the Buffalo Bills.

You’ve heard it, Bills Mafia. You coined it: Buffalo is New York (State’s) only NFL team.

Chatting with Barstool Sports recently, Rodgers did it. He admitted it. The Bills are, in fact, New York’s only team.

Rodgers’ admission can be found in the clip below:

Colin Cowherd reacts to Aaron Rodgers’ explaining missing ‘minicamp’

Colin Cowherd responds to Aaron Rodgers’ response to missing ‘minicamp.’

Colin Cowherd is fine that Aaron Rodgers missed mandatory minicamp in June. But Cowherd isn’t fine with New York Jets quarterback choosing to do so or his explanation for missing what is termed ‘mandatory minicamp.’

On Monday, the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast (which is available on the Barstool Sports platform) aired a recent interview with Rodgers where he defended a recent trip to Egypt that caused him to miss minicamp in June. The Jets said that the absence was unexcused.

Rodgers said that minicamp is essentially OTAs and that he made 10 prior OTA practice sessions.

Cowherd nuanced his response in addressing the Rodgers situation during his Monday show (on FS1 and FoxSports Radio).

Twice in his monologue on the situation, Cowherd was critical of Jets’ ownership:

“But be that as it may, this just feels like, you know, kind of Aaron trying to win one of these little battles, and your teammates were there and you weren’t. I’m fine with it I don’t think it is the end of the world but I’d rather have my guy own it,” Cowherd said on FS1 on Monday.

“I will say this, old quarterbacks- [Tom] Brady was literally doing illegal practice as a Jesuit High School. You know, older quarterbacks. They don’t want to get hi. They don’t necessarily want to practice as much, and I get all that I do think the Jets, is a very unique situation because of the constant impulse of nature of the ownership, because they’re the Jets, because it’s New York – I think you should be there, but I don’t think it’ll have an adverse effect once the real season starts.”

Here is the full discussion from Cowherd on Rodgers:

[lawrence-related id=695084,695082,695079]

Rodgers was firm in his conviction during his ‘Pardon My Take’ appearance that this won’t be an issue once the season starts.

Aaron Rodgers on his trip to Egypt, missed ‘minicamp’ – ‘I came to the first 10’

Aaron Rodgers talked missed minicamp with Barstool Sports.

Aaron Rodgers defended his recent visit to Egypt, a trip that saw the New York Jets quarterback miss mandatory minicamp.

On a Barstool Sports podcast released on Monday, Rodgers discussed why he felt the timing of his trip to Egypt was not an issue. The Jets quarterback clearly outlined why, in his estimation, the timing of his trip is not significant ahead of his second season with the franchise.

Asked about any fallout from his trip, Rodgers said “I’m sure I’ll get fined for that.” He then explained his viewpoint of the importance (or lack thereof) of missing minicamp in a recent appearance on ‘Pardon My Take.’

“The thing that I think people don’t understand is that when, when I was in NFC North and playing for that team years ago, there used to be a real thing called minicamp, where it was, you had one of them, usually, sometimes it’s right after the draft,” Rodgers told Barstool Sports, referencing his time with the Green Bay Packers.

“But either way, it was five practices in three days, Friday, Saturday, Sunday so two practices on Friday, two on Saturday, one on Sunday. Now it’s not minicamp.

“They can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want – yeah is the minicamp week, which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks. But it was an OTA schedule. That’s how it’s – you know how words can be a little deceiving from time-to-time. You can make a story of the fact that I missed a mini-camp when it’s really two OTA days, right?

“I came to the first 10 (OTA practices).”

Rodgers was then asked “if it was a media thing” to which he shrugged.

[lawrence-related id=695082,695079,695076]

Later in the episode, one of Barstool’s cast of characters emerged to ask Rodgers some questions. Known as ‘Memes,’ the Barstool employee deadpanned several questions to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Among the questions was if “a couple of missed practices will have any effect on the season?”

“Yea, big effect,” Rodgers said.

“I’m glad you said practices, thank you. OTA practices.”

Aaron Rodgers – ‘We’re the New Jersey Jets’

Aaron Rodgers wants to re-name the New York Jets?

In an appearance on ‘Pardon My Take’ that was released on Monday, the most controversial thing that New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said was that his team should instead me called the “New Jersey Jets.”

Somewhere, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is smiling at the idea of the Garden State bearing the name of the Jets.

Rodgers conducted his interview in mid-July with the Barstool Sports program, talking about a wide range of issues. It was a light-hearted interview from a relaxed Rodgers, who clearly was in offseason mode.

The interview touched on Rodgers and his return from last season’s Achilles injury. However, one of the most interesting reactions from the Jets quarterback came when asked whether he lives in New York or New Jersey.

“Yea nobody lives in New York – if you’re a Giant you can but I don’t know why you would – just because the traffic into the tunnel and all of our stuff,” Rodgers said on ‘Pardon My Take.’

“I joke about. I know that stadium used to be on Long Island and but we’re the New Jersey…so are the Giants, yeah, the Giants play in New Jersey.”

The Jets are completely based in New Jersey, with gameday at MetLife Stadium. So Rodgers, who likely was just having some fun with his comments, does have a point.

Are the Jets still a New York team?

Eric LeGrand makes a Rutgers basketball bet with Barstool Sports’ ‘Frank The Tank’

Rutgers legend Eric LeGrand made a bet with ‘Frank The Tank’ for Rutgers basketball to defeat their instate rival the Seton Hall Pirates.

This week, Rutgers football Eric LeGrand joined Frank Fleming, also known as ‘Frank the Tank’ from Barstool Sports, on one of his famous Frank Walks around SHI Stadium.

Celebrities and inspirational people have joined Frank on these walks as LeGrand represented the Scarlet Knights. Fleming, an icon of Barstool Sports, chatted with LeGrand as they strolled throughout the stadium.

During their walk, LeGrand made a bet with Fleming, previewing the instate showdown against Rutgers basketball and Seton Hall this upcoming season. Last season, the Scarlet Knights defeated Fleming’s Pirates 70-63 and ‘Frank The Tank’ is looking for revenge.

LeGrand bet that if the Scarlet Knights defeat the Pirates, Fleming needs to dress up in all Rutgers gear, and if Seton Hall wins, LeGrand has to dress in Pirates apparel while advertising his coffee brand.

On October 16, 2010, Eric LeGrand’s life changed forever. While covering a kickoff for Rutgers, LeGrand suffered a severe spinal cord injury. The collision left LeGrand paralyzed from the neck down.

[lawrence-related id=38658,38643,38640]

Erasing his mind from all the negativity, LeGrand accepted the challenge and continued to fight back. Over the years, LeGrand has been a sign of hope and an inspirational leader for Rutgers football, as his No. 52 hangs over SHI Stadium.

LeGrand continues to show signs of recovery as he helps raise money for spinal injury research with his coffee and whisky brands.
