“I don’t want to leave but some things are out of my control,” Broncos OLB Baron Browning said when asked about trade rumors.
The Denver Broncos have a deep pass-rush rotation and outside linebacker Baron Browning might be viewed as an expendable asset leading up to the NFL’s trade deadline (Nov. 5).
Over the weekend, NFL Network reported that Browning “could be available” on the trade block. Following a 28-14 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Browning was asked about the trade speculation.
“I can only control what I can control,’’ Browning said, via KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. “I can’t control what happens in the future, I have to stay in the moment. I do what I can to help this team win games. I would like to stay here. I don’t want to leave but some things are out of my control.”
Browning lost his starting job to Nik Bonitto while on injured reserve. Bonitto (6.0) leads the team in sacks this fall and Jonathon Cooper (5.5) is not far behind. Jonah Elliss (2.0) and Dondrea Tillman (2.0) have also made their mark as rotational pass rushers.
Browning, a third-round pick in 2021, is still seeking his first sack of the season.
Broncos OLB Baron Browning “could be available” leading up to the NFL’s trade deadline, according to NFL Network.
With the NFL trade deadline (Nov. 5) now just over one week away, Denver Broncos outside linebacker Baron Browning has been named a potential trade candidate.
“A converted off-the-ball LB who had 4.5 sacks last year, Browning’s playing time has dwindled in Denver and he’s in a contract year,” Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero wrote on NFL.com on Saturday. “He could be available. Denver has depth at the position.”
The Broncos had a nearly-even four-player pass rush on Sunday, spreading out snaps between Browning (33), Jonathon Cooper (33), Jonah Elliss (29) and Nik Bonitto (29). Dondrea Tillman was a healthy scratch on Sunday, but he played well when Browning was sidelined earlier this season.
With so much depth at the positon, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Denver listen to trade offers for Browning leading up to the deadline. Rapoport and Pelissero also wrote that Cooper “could draw interest as well,” but the Broncos seem less likely to trade him.
Bonitto (6.0) and Cooper (5.5) lead the team in sacks this fall. Elliss and Tillman both have two. Browning has been available for four games and is yet to record his first sack of the season.
Going into Week 8, the Broncos have 5 players on injured reserve and 2 players on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.
After activating three players from injured reserve last week, the Denver Broncos still have seven players on IR or physically unable to perform lists going into week 8. Five of those players will be eligible to return later this season.
Broncos running back Tyler Badie (back) will be eligible to return in Week 9, and center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hand) can return in Week 10.
Denver linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) have been eligible to return from the PUP list since Week 5, but they apparently still need more time to recover.

DB Delarrin Turner-Yell: Eligible to return since Week 5
RB Tyler Badie: Eligible to return Week 9
WR Josh Reynolds: Eligible to return Week 10

If healthy, Badie could return after Denver hosts the Carolina Panthers next Sunday.
The Broncos have opened the 21-day window for OT Mike McGlinchey (MCL) and OLB Baron Browning (foot) to return from injured reserve.
The Denver Broncos opened the 21-day window for two starters to return from injured reserve on Tuesday.
Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL) and outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) returned to practice on Tuesday, which started their three-week window to return to the active roster.
If McGlinchey and Browning are not activated within the next 21 days, they will remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season. Both players seem likely to be activated before the deadline, but it remains to be seen if they will be activated in time for a Thursday Night Football showdown with the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 17.
McGlinchey will likely immediately return to starting at right tackle once he returns. Browning, on the other hand, might be a rotational pass rusher because Nik Bonitto has played so well across from Jonathon Cooper.
The Broncos also opened the three-week window for cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) to return from IR last week, so he is a candidate to return in Week 7 as well. Denver currently has two open spots on the active roster after cutting two players on Tuesday.
The bad news: Broncos have a short week. Good news: Denver has several players eligible to return from injured reserve ahead of TNF.
Denver Broncos running back Audric Estime (ankle) returned from injured reserve last week and more reinforcements could be on the way this week.
The Broncos will have a short week ahead of a Thursday Night Football showdown with the New Orleans Saints, but the list of players eligible to return from IR ahead of Week 7 includes right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL), outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) and cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle).
If healthy, McGlinchey will immediately return to starting at right tackle. Mathis could be returning just in time to provide more depth at cornerback after star Pat Surtain suffered a concussion on Sunday.
Broncos linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) have been eligible to return from the physically unable to perform list since Week 5, but they might need more time to recover.
Denver running back Tyler Badie (back) will be eligible to return in Week 9. Center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hand) are eligible to return in Week 10.

Denver will have two light practices leading up to TNF this week.
Going into Week 6, the Broncos have 8 players on injured reserve and 2 players on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.
The Denver Broncos have ten players on injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list going into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Eight of those players will be eligible to return later this season.
Denver activated running back Audric Estime (ankle) from IR to the 53-man roster on Saturday and placed center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hand) on IR. Wattenberg and Reynolds can return in Week 10.
Broncos linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) have been eligible to return from the PUP list since Week 5, but they still need more time to recover.
Denver cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) is also eligible to return from IR but wasn’t activated this week.

The Denver Broncos have nine players on injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list going into Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Seven of those players will be eligible to return later this season.
Broncos cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) was eligible to return from IR this week, and linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) were eligible to return from the PUP list in Week 5. All three players apparently need more time to recover.
Denver running back Audric Estime (ankle) will be eligible to return next week, and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL) and outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) can return in Week 7.

If he has recovered from his ankle injury, Estime will likely return to serving as the team’s No. 3 running back next week.
The Broncos will have six players eligible to return from IR/PUP over the next three weeks, including CB Damarri Mathis this week.
Following the Denver Broncos‘ win over the New York Jets on Sunday, running back Javonte Williams noted that the team has “a lot of players returning” in the coming weeks. Who are those players?
The Broncos have four players on injured reserve and two players on the reserve/physically unable to perform list who could return later this season.
Broncos cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) is eligible to return in Week 5 after spending the first four games of the season on IR. It remains to be seen if Mathis has fully recovered, but Denver could have him back on the field against the Las Vegas Raiders this week.
Broncos outside linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) are also eligible to return this week. Note that we emphasized eligible because both Sanders and Turner-Yell probably need more time to recover from their respective injuries.
Denver running back Audric Estime (ankle) will be eligible to return in Week 6, and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL) and outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) will be eligible to return in Week 7.

Denver will return to the practice field on Wednesday and then release their first injury report of the week ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Raiders.
That’s two starting edge rushers out for an undetermined stretch after the team already lost key reserve Sam Williams for the season during training camp. Things are dire and it may lead the front office to try and get some help from outside the organization.
Earlier in the day, anticipating this news, a list of 10 street free agents was put together. But those guys are on the street for a reason and there may not be much return there. It might take looking to other team’s rosters in order to stop the bleeding. So who exactly is available, or could be for the right price? A quick poll of NFL Wire editors about where their respective teams’ rosters stood revealed four names they thought their clubs would deem expendable for the right price. The conversation though starts with a player who has already asked to be traded from his current club.
Haason Reddick, NY Jets
Reddick was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New York Jets over the summer, in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick. Reddick hasn’t stepped foot inside the Jets facilities, holding out the entire training camp and regular season. He even demanded to be traded again in August after the two sides failed to rework his contract.
Reddick has been accruing fines and is weeks away from having his contract toll to 2025, which means he’ll be locked into the Jets for 2025 under the same terms if he doesn’t report by a deadline. It appears he feels slighted by the Jets so it’s unclear whether or not he’d play under his current contract for another team, but the Cowboys have the cap room to take on the final 14 weeks of his agreement, sitting over $25 million in the black after the extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini laid out a scenario where Reddick’s reps appear to have hinted he’d like to return to Philly (via Bleacher Report), but would he take a trip to Dallas also? There are questions, of course.
If Reddick were willing to play without a new deal, would the Jets acquiesce? Would a 2026 third rounder or worth do the trick? How long of a ramp-up period would be required for a player who hasn’t worked out with a team all year? How long does Dallas think they’ll be without Parsons and Lawrence? Does the front office care more about winning in 2024 or cap space to carry over? In the likelihood those questions can’t be adequately addressed, there are some other options to explore.
Poach Candidate: San Okuyinonu, San Francisco 49ers
Via Kyle Madison of Niners Wire: “Sam Okuayinonu on SF practice squad. Had a sack last week.”
Okuayinonu stands 6-foot-1, 269 pounds and has been in the league since 2022, starting with the Tennessee Titans.
Trade Candidate: James Houston, DE, Detroit Lions
Jeff Risdon, Lions Wire: “He’s on the 53 (healthy scratch weekly) but the Lions would certainly listen on James Houston.”
It appears that the 6-foot-1, 245 third-year player is caught behind a ton of talent and hasn’t been able to break into the rotation since being a sixth-round pick in 2022.
Trade Candidate: Pat Jones II, Minnesota Vikings
Andrew Harbaugh, Vikings Wire: “Pat Jones II is on the active roster but the Vikings are deep enough they may entertain trade talks for him (4 sacks through the first three weeks).”
The fourth-year pro stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 265 pounds and is actually an original draft pick of current Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, going in the third round in 2021. He has already matched his career high in sacks in a season with four.
Jon Heath, Broncos Wire: “Baron Browning has three more games on IR. Once he returns, Denver will have a surplus with Browning, Cooper, Bonitto, Elliss and Tillman. I think they’d definitely trade Bonitto, and once healthy, Browning too.”
Bonitto, 6-foot-3, 240 pounds and now in his third season in the league, has a sack on the season after notching eight last year. He was a second-round pick in 2022.
Browning, a third-round pick from 2021, stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 240 pounds. He had 4.5 sacks last year after five in 2022.
The Broncos placed Baron Browning on IR, promoted Lil’Jordan Humphrey to 53-man roster and elevated RB Tyler Badie and DB Tanner McCalister.
The Denver Broncos made several roster moves on Saturday ahead of their Week 3 showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The moves started when the Broncos placed outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four games. The earliest Browning would be eligible to return would be a Week 7 road game against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football on Oct. 17.
To fill Browning’s former spot on the 53-man roster, Denver promoted wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey from the practice squad to the active roster.
The Broncos also elevated running back Tyler Badie and defensive back Tanner McCalister from the practice squad to the game-day roster. Badie and McCalister will revert to the practice squad on Monday.
