Injury update Broncos DB Patrick Surtain II after leaving game early

Denver Broncos rookie DB Patrick Surtain II left the field on Sunday with a chest injury. The latest updates on his status are now available.

The Denver Broncos caught an injury bug in their 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

The Broncos were down eight starters by the end of the game, including former Alabama Crimson Tide DB and current rookie Patrick Surtain II.

Before leaving the game with an injury, Surtain made six tackles against the Ravens on Sunday.

In his career for the Crimson Tide, he was known as a lock-down DB, barely getting action as QBs would rarely throw the ball near his direction.

When they did, Surtain would answer the call, deflecting a total of 24 passes and intercepting four over the course of his three-year career with the Crimson Tide.

According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapaport, Surtain should be okay after suffering a chest injury.

His status for next Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh to face the Steelers is still unknown.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for continued coverage of Patrick Surtain II and the rest of the former Crimson Tide stars in the NFL.

Mac Jones proves he belongs in tight loss to Tom Brady, Buccaneers

Despite the loss, rookie Mac Jones proves he can play with the best of the best!

On a rainy Sunday night in Foxborough, something not so unfamiliar happened. Tom Brady led his team to a last-minute victory. Except for this time, it wasn’t a victory for the Patriots, it was one for the Buccaneers.

We all know that Brady won six Super Bowls for the Patriots under head coach Bill Belichick and then decided before the 2020 season that it was time to move on. So Brady packed his bags and headed south to Tampa Bay. Brady went on to lead the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl victory in February.

Last night Brady traveled back north for a highly emotional contest against his former team and its new quarterback, Mac Jones.

The game went back and forth throughout the entire contest. Brady led the Buccaneers to a field goal to take the lead with 1:57 left to go in the contest. Jones led the Patriots into field goal position, but the 56-yard attempt hit the left upright, no good, and Brady escaped with a win.

If you watched the game, Jones never flinched or seemed to be phased by the magnitude of the game. Each time Brady put points on the board, Jones and the Patriots would answer. Jones went toe to toe with the GOAT, with a much inferior supporting cast.

The truth is, the former Alabama signal-caller outplayed Tom Brady. Brady was 22-43 for 269 yards while Jones finished 31-40 for 275 yards, two touchdown passes, and one interception.

You could almost feel the emotions after the game from each side. It felt as if though both Brady and the Patriot’s organization as a whole have completely moved on and each side is happy with the direction they are going.

Sure, a win would have tasted a little better, but despite the loss, Jones proved he can hang with the best of them.

Trevon Diggs did something for the Cowboys that hadn’t been done in 36 years

Former Bama, current Cowboys DB Trevon Diggs accomplished something that hasn’t been done in 36 years!

Monday’s MNF matchup between the Cowboys and the Eagles featured a plethora of former Alabama Crimson Tide players.

Among those, former Alabama and current Cowboys DB Trevon Diggs had himself a night while matching up against Alabama’s 2020 Heisman Trophy-einning WR DeVonta Smith.

To go along with three passes deflected, Diggs was also able to take an interception to the house, recording his first-ever NFL pick-six. Diggs knew to expect an out-route by Smith based on pre-snap alignment.

The pick was Diggs’ third of the season. With the interception, he became the first Cowboys player to record an interception in each of a season’s first three games since Everson Walls did so in 1985.“

A receiver faking it as a D-back,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of Diggs, who also has come up with interceptions off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Tom Brady and Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert this season. “He plays that ball and makes those special plays. And obviously, he’s not only got talent, but by the way, he’s worked to get in position to make those plays. He’s a difference-maker.”

Diggs made it clear that he’s “trying to” put the league on notice. When asked what this means for the rest of the NFL, his response was simple: “I’m here.”

Diggs is the only player in the NFL to record a pick in each game so far this season. He is tied with Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson as the league’s interception leader.

For Diggs, this was his sixth interception in his past eight games, dating back to last season. Four of those six have come in three games against Philadelphia. He intercepted Carson Wentz twice In Week 8 last year and picked off Jalen Hurts in Week 16.

“Tre is a ball player, man,” said rookie linebacker/defensive end Micah Parsons. “I told him, I’m starting my MVP, All-Pro corner [campaign] for Tre Diggs already. He’s just helping this defense so (much). He’s really making it easier for guys like me to get to the quarterback. I’m very happy for him. …

“He brings that dog every day [in practice]. I think him going against CeeDee [Lamb], Amari [Cooper]. I mean, it’s so much deeper than that. You see Ced [Wilson] out there. You see Noah [Brown]. I don’t see a weak link in that receiver corps. You’ve got [Michael Gallup], too. So Tre every day is challenging, push up everything. I think he’s ready for the moment. He told me he’s going to be the best, so I don’t expect anything less from him.”

Diggs is clearly ready to make a name for himself in the NFL. This is surely the first of many pick-sixes in this young star’s career.

WATCH: Nick Saban responds to Jalen Hurts being called ‘Oklahoma QB’ on ESPN

Nick Saban responds to Eli Manning, who said that Jalen Hurts was an Oklahoma QB.

This week’s edition of Monday Night Football between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles has tons of former Crimson Tide stars in the starting lineups for each team.

Former Alabama QB Jalen Hurts is at the helm for the Eagles, who is being protected in part by former Crimson Tide offensive lineman Landon Dickerson at guard. During every dropback by Hurts, he has the Heisman-winning Alabama WR DeVonta Smith to throw to.

On the other side, the Cowboys don’t have near as many, but they still have former Crimson Tide playmakers DB Trevon Diggs and WR Amari Cooper.

This could be a good reason why ESPN’s alternate broadcast of the Monday Night Football game on ESPN2 with Peyton and Eli Manning featured special guest Nick Saban.

In a hilarious segment during Saban’s appearance, Eli jokes about Jalen Hurts being an Oklahoma quarterback, and Peyton chimes in to remind him that he was an Alabama quarterback through most of his career.

“There’s not very many guys in college football that went 26-2 as a starter, and got replaced.” Saban remarked after the exchange, referencing Tua Tagovailoa’s entry after halftime in the 2018 CFP Championship Game against Georgia.

The hilarity ensued when Peyton joked about his big hat and big head while being in the stands during a game between Saban’s LSU Tigers and Eli Manning and Ole Miss.

The “Manningcast” version of MNF games has been a huge success so far this season, and as long as the jokes keep coming and the guests remain engaged, they should continue to draw big ratings.

WATCH: Trevon Diggs picks off Jalen Hurts for an easy pick-six

Trevon Diggs got an easy interception off a Jalen Hurts pass that was intended for DeVonta Smith in a game filled with Bama alumni! Catch the play here!

Tons of Alabama alumni are participating in tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Among those are Jalen Hurts, starting at quarterback for the Eagles, and Trevon Diggs, cornerback for the Cowboys.

Diggs and Hurts got to know each other very well in their time at Alabama, learning one another’s tendencies for three full seasons from 2016 until Hurts transferred to Oklahoma after the 2018 campaign.

In the matchup Monday night, Diggs got the better of Hurts, and picked him off on a 2nd & 10 throw that was intended for another Alabama alum, Heisman trophy winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who lost his footing on the play.

He took the pick to the house to increase the Cowboys lead by a score of 27-7.

WATCH: CJ Mosley destroys Melvin Gordon to save a TD

Former Tide LB CJ Mosley absolutely destroys Broncos RB Melvin Gordon to deny a TD at the goal line!

Former Crimson Tide linebacker CJ Mosley of the New York Jets delivered a boom heard throughout the stadium Sunday against Melvin Gordon of the Denver Broncos.

Known for his punishing hits in his time at the Capstone, it’s obvious that he hasn’t lost his hard punch after seven years in the NFL.

On the Broncos offensive drive down the field, they marched their way down near the goal line. The handoff on the aforementioned play went to Gordon, who looked for a hole in the defense to punch it into the end zone.

Mosley came in to deny the touchdown, delivering a punishing blow that reverberated through the stands.

WATCH: Derrick Henry bulldozes over defender

Derrick Henry destroys yet another defender that foolishly decides to get in his way.

Former Heisman-winning Alabama running back Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans has provided endless amounts of entertainment in his NFL career, especially if you like human beings converted into human ragdolls.

Henry was the recipient of a screen pass from Ryan Tannehill on a first down play near midfield. His blockers provided ample support, moving defenders out of his way.

Darius Leonard of the Indianapolis Colts managed to shed a block and get in Henry’s way downfield. I’m almost certain that he regretted the decision almost as soon as it was made, as Henry sent him flying, as he so often does.

Watch below as Henry causes yet another man to rethink his life decisions.

WATCH: Damien Harris shares insight on how Nick Saban prepared him for NFL

From Alabama to the NFL: Damien Harris explains the transition!

Damien Harris didn’t have a spectacular performance in Week 1 of the young NFL season, only mustering up 62 yards on 16 carries. He also recorded his first career fumble in his NFL debut.

This past Sunday against the Dolphins, however, he would not make the same mistake. Harris managed to reach the century mark for the first time, of many to come, in his short NFL career, rushing for 100 yards on 23 totes. While he couldn’t find the end zone, the impact he had was apparent in a 17-16 win for the New England Patriots

In an interview with SportsCenter on ESPN, Harris was asked about how his time at Alabama prepared him for play at the next level, and here is what he had to say:

“100 percent, everybody knows that Coach Belichick and Coach Saban are pretty close, so they run their ships pretty much the same,” Harris said. “Obviously they have their differences, but Coach Saban prepared me to be in this situation. I think going to the University of Alabama and being a part of that program definitely helped create a sort of mentality to come in and show up every day with that professional mindset. I think all the things I went through with him help me get ready for this stage. It was still a tough adjustment, because you don’t really know what you’re walking into especially here when you get to New England.”

3 former Alabama stars make NFL’s All-Under-25 Team

Alabama saw three of its former players land on the NFL’s All-Under 25 Team. Who are they?

[mm-video type=video id=01f9067eg6g4dvy9nkkb playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f9067eg6g4dvy9nkkb/01f9067eg6g4dvy9nkkb-97cdcadd4c114e37cb3a8a5f6bde6890.jpg]

Alabama has put a lot of players into the NFL over the last decade and a half. With Nick Saban at the helm, the overall talent on the roster on a year-in, year-out basis has been outstanding, so naturally several former Tide stars would be standouts on the next level as well.

On Wednesday, NFL.com released its All-Under-25 Team, and Alabama saw three representatives on the list of 26 players. One came on offense, while the other two were on the defensive side of the football.

Check it out, and let us know if you think there are any former Alabama players who were snubbed. But remember, the rule is that the player has to be younger than 25 years old on Sept. 9, which is the day the season officially kicks off.

Alabama Football: Every former Tide player on an NFL roster

There are at least 79 former Alabama players in the NFL, so we decided to update fans on all of them. Check it out!

When it comes to putting premium talent in the NFL, Alabama has taken things to a whole new level. Each and every year, the Crimson Tide are putting several of their former players into the league.

With the accumulation of talent over a long period of time, Nick Saban has 79 of his former players on NFL rosters — 80, if you include Jalen Hurts in that mix.

The Miami Dolphins have most former Alabama players with six, while their division foe, the New England Patriots, check in right behind them with five. The Las Vegas Raiders also have five.

On the flip side, only one team doesn’t have an Alabama player: the New Orleans Saints.

Sure, some fans may want to claim Alvin Kamara, but he’s a little bit different than even a guy such as Hurts. Outside of one year in Oklahoma, Hurts spent his entire career in Tuscaloosa.

Separating things out by division was also interesting. Of the 80 players, 48 are in the AFC. Wait until you see how the divisions are broken down, too. Enjoy all that — and more — below!
