Lamar Jackson sent home from Ravens first training camp practice with an illness

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was sent home today from the first training camp practice of 2024 with an illness.

The Ravens are officially kicking off the 2024 preseason with their first training camp practice of the summer, and the team will be without MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Adam Schefter reports that Jackson will miss Sunday’s opening session after being sent home with an undisclosed illness.

Baltimore entered training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster, and veteran Josh Johnson likely took most of the snaps on Day 1, with rookies Devin Leary and Emory Jones working in with the reserves.

Jackson has been at the Under Armour Performance Center for five days now, reporting ahead of the veterans with the other quarterbacks, who joined the rookies that reported on July 13.

Justin Tucker makes list of players who should grace the cover of ‘Madden NFL 25’

Justin Tucker is receiving a lot of positive press this offseason, even though he hasn’t done anything that would be considered “news.”

According to NFL.com’s Bobby Kownack,  Tucker is one of his five leading candidates to grace the cover of the next edition of the popular Madden video game series.

The Madden series has had a history of putting players on the cover who embody the rule changes made by the league in that given year.

With the new kickoff rule taking effect this upcoming season, who better to grace the cover than the most excellent kicker ever?

Tucker temporarily lost the title of most accurate placekicker of all time late last season but has since reclaimed it. He has a 90.2% accuracy rate over his career.

His most extended field goal a record of 66 yards could last a long while.

However, it isn’t just speculation over video game cover imagery that draws attention to Tucker this summer.

Given how Tucker and the Kansas City Chiefs PK, Harrison Butker, are basically on a level above everybody else in the league, they are inevitably and consistently compared to one another.

Butker came under fire last month due to some extremist views that he presented while giving a commencement address at an ultra-conservative college.

In the public backlash against Butker, Tucker’s virtues have been pushed back to the forefront. Not just on social media but in regular mainstream media, we’re seeing the Tucker vs Butker narrative return, although it comes in an off-the-field theme this time.

As you may or may not know, Baltimore’s All-Pro placekicker is an accomplished opera singer who can belt out a song in seven different languages.

He has been singing for charity in the offseason for nearly a decade.

However, his vocal prowess and philanthropic efforts are currently back in the news. That is largely due to critics of Butker juxtaposing him against Tucker, as they praise the Ravens PK and spotlight his best traits.

Ravens agree to a 2-year deal with LB Kyle Van Noy

The Baltimore Ravens are signing Kyle Van Noy to a two-year deal

The Ravens are retaining one of their own free agents, as Pat McAfee reported that the veteran linebacker is returning to Baltimore on a two-year deal.

You can never have enough good pass rushers or leadership on your roster, and for the right price, Van Noy has to return after posting 30 tackles and a career-best 9.0 sacks in 14 games with the Ravens during the regular season.

Van Noy and Jadeveon Clowney formed a formidable duo off the right side and combined for 18.5 sacks during the regular season.

Now, one will return in 2024.

Ravens to sign LB Chris Board to a deal

The Baltimore Ravens are signing veteran linebacker Chris Board to a one-year deal

The Ravens are returning a familiar face to the Under Armour Performance Center, agreeing to a one-year deal with inside linebacker Chris Board.

Board originally signed with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent 2018 out of North Dakota State.

Board signed a two-year contract with New England last offseason but was released last week. The 28-year-old saw action strictly on special teams last season, recording ten combined tackles in 17 games.

Board spent the 2022 season with the Lions, appearing in all 17 games and recording 21 tackles (17 solo) while playing primarily on special teams.

Ravens to face Gardner Minshew with Colts QB Anthony Richardson still in concussion protocol

The Baltimore #Ravens are expected to face backup Gardner Minshew with Colts rookie QB Anthony Richardson still in concussion protocol via @Thacover2NFL

The Ravens are looking to remain undefeated on Sunday, and they’ll face a Colts team starting a backup quarterback with Anthony Richardson still in the concussion protocol.

Richardson missed practice again, according to Adam Schefter, putting veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew in line to start Week 3.

Richardson, who scored two rushing touchdowns in Week 2, suffered his concussion during the first half of last week’s win over Houston.

Minshew took over and finished 19-of-23 for 171 yards with a touchdown, and the veteran is more than experienced, with 24 career NFL starts.

Minshew completed 58 percent of his passes for 663 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions in five appearances with two starts last year for the Eagles.

Ravens vs. Titans final score recap: Top stars, quotes, and more

Everything you need to know from the Baltimore Ravens vs. Tennessee Titans final score recap in Week 11.

At one point, the Baltimore Ravens had an 11-point lead late in the third quarter against the Tennessee Titans. The Ravens’ offense looked like it had finally found a rhythm while the defense was stuffing the Titans and running back Derrick Henry. But like we’ve seen all season long, Baltimore’s only consistency is their inconsistency. In the end, the Ravens drop to 6-4 after a 30-24 overtime loss.

Whether it was mental errors, poor tackling, lack of effort, or great play by Tennessee, Baltimore had a tendency to not get out of their own way. Because of that, the Ravens’ season is now on life support.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the finer points of this game in our Ravens vs. Titans final score recap.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith questionable with back spasms vs. Browns

The Baltimore Ravens added cornerback Jimmy Smith to the injury report with back spasms, putting his availability into question.

The Baltimore Ravens haven’t even hit the field for warm ups and they have an injury issue. The Ravens announced they’ve added cornerback Jimmy Smith to the injury report with back spasms, making him questionable for today against the Cleveland Browns.

Smith has seen the injury report a fair bit over his career. Over nine seasons in the NFL prior to today, Smith has missed a total of 37 games. He missed seven games last season after suffering a knee injury on the first series of the first game. While technically not a starter, Smith’s newly questionable status for Week 1 could change what defensive coordinator Don Martindale had planned for this week.

Throughout training camp, Smith had been a floater in the secondary. Primarily taking on tight ends, it’s expected Smith would be the primary matchup with new Browns tight end Austin Hooper. But with Smith potentially not in the lineup today, those duties could fall to a linebacker or rookie safety.

Ravens truly start training camp with 1st padded practice of offseason

Training camp isn’t really training camp until the pads come on and they start hitting. Baltimore Ravens training camp truly begins today.

While the Baltimore Ravens have technically been in training camp for a few weeks now, it’s been anything but standard. After a slow ramp-up period, the Ravens will put on pads today for the first time and have the whole team practicing together to really open training camp.

The few weeks contact is allowed at training camp will be some of the most important time the players and coaches have this year. Where Baltimore would have held their first preseason game — scheduled to be against the Buffalo Bills on Aug. 14 — the team was still getting everyone up to speed and on the field with their respective position groups.

Anything heard out of any training camp prior to pads should be taken with a grain of salt. Wide receivers are bound to catch more passes since defensive backs can’t really interfere with them too much. Quarterbacks are testing out new throws but are practically throwing uncontested. The running backs, offensive linemen, defensive linemen, and linebackers are all effectively doing walkthroughs. But the second pads come on, the hitting starts and we get a step closer to what a real football game is going to be like.

For the rookies, they’ll finally be tested in real time. Their mistakes will be highlighted thanks to the speed and strength of the veterans around them. We’ll get our first taste of what the new offensive and defensive lines can really do. We’ll see just how much the pass rush has improved. Perhaps even more exciting is we’ll hear the crack of plastic on plastic as guys hit one another for the first time since last season and like going to a good barbeque right before the meat is served, it’s that little something in the air that makes summer actually feel like summer.
