Look! Did J.K. Dobbins already pick his jersey number with the Baltimore Ravens?

Wearing No. 2 with the Buckeyes, Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins will sport No. 27 with his new team.

The secret is out, sortvof — J.K. Dobbins will presumably be wearing no. 27 with the Baltimore Ravens, if a certain picture on social media is to be believed. If so,  this would be an obvious change from the No. 2 he wore his three years as a member of Ohio State.

Per the Ravens’ team website, it appears No. 2 is currently not in use, so Dobbins didn’t change his number from his college days in Columbus because a previous player had it.

The Ravens also haven’t officially confirmed jersey numbers of their new draft picks, but a picture surfaced on the NFL’s Twitter profile that seems to have told the world.

With the Ravens’ general manager calling Dobbins “impossible” to pass on, Dobbins was clearly not getting any further than the second round.

He was eventually selected 53rd overall and will team up with Lamar Jackson and a dominant Ravens’ roster. That said, here’s a picture with Dobbins and his two new star teammates.

Just as you should be, we’re excited to see what the superstar Ohio State running back can do at the sport’s highest level.

7 matchups that could be primetime games for Ravens in 2020

The Baltimore Ravens are one of the best teams in the league and could draw plenty of primetime slots on their schedule because of it.

After going 14-2 last season, the Baltimore Ravens are among the top few teams in the league. That success and a bevy of top opponents on the docket should see them receive a number of primetime games in front of a national audience on the 2020 NFL schedule.

With the NFL schedule release this week, the Ravens have seven matchups that are perfect for the national spotlight. Let’s take a look at each one of those seven opponents and what makes the matchup so interesting for everyone else to tune in.

Kansas City Chiefs

Many expected the AFC to come down to the Chiefs versus the Ravens in the Championship Game for the right to go to Super Bowl LIV. Sadly, Baltimore was eliminated from contention early but once again this season, the Ravens are right alongside Kansas City as the best of the conference.

With two young faces of the NFL in quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson teamed up with hard-hitting defenses and fast-paced offenses, there’s plenty to love in this matchup for the casual fan. With a potential early look at the AFC Championship Game, this is one matchup that should be easy enough to promote and could be one of the best games of the season.

Report: Former Seahawks safety Earl Thomas held at gunpoint by wife

Former Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas was held at gunpoint by wife, Nina, in April in an alleged domestic violence incident in Texas.

Former Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas was held at gunpoint by his wife during a violent domestic incident that allegedly occurred on April 13, according to a report Wednesday night by TMZ.

“When cops arrived, they say ‘we observed that a black female wearing an orange sweater with a knife in her hand, later identified as Nina Thomas, was chasing a shirtless black male, later identified as Earl Thomas, with a pistol in his hand around a vehicle,'” TMZ reports.

According to TMZ, Thomas had wrestled the gun away from his wife after she confronted him about her suspicions of his infidelity.

Ravens safety Earl Thomas responds to alleged altercation with wife

TMZ reported Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas was involved in an altercation with his wife. He responded in a video.

A report from TMZ on Thursday night alleges that Ravens safety Earl Thomas was held at gunpoint by his wife, Nina Thomas, after an April 13 altercation involving several people.

Thomas took to Instagram before the report was released in an attempt to get ahead of the news.

“I guess I’ll be on TMZ in the morning,” he wrote on the video caption. “Somehow they got a police report with details … Obviously this is not how I wanted my birthday breakfast to start out or my birthday but it is what it is ..”

Thomas signed with the Ravens last offseason on a four-year, $55 million deal. He posted two interceptions and four pass breakups in 15 games.

Ravens’ Earl Thomas speaks about alleged domestic dispute with his wife

Ravens’ DB Earl Thomas was involved in a scary domestic incident, according to a TMZ report Wednesday.

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Earl Thomas spoke out on Instagram about a TMZ report regarding an alleged domestic dispute with his wife, Nina, in mid-April.

Thomas, who turns 31 on Thursday, posted a video on his Instagram account Wednesday night saying he had been alerted to the fact TMZ was going to be releasing a report.

His comments began with: “I guess I’ll be on TMZ in the morning somehow they got a police report with details … Obviously, this is not how I wanted my birthday breakfast to start, out or my birthday, but it is what it is…”

The sports/entertainment/gossip juggernaut reported:

NFL star Earl Thomas is lucky to be alive after cops say his wife held a loaded gun less than a foot from his head … after she allegedly caught him cheating with another woman.

The alleged incident — and TMZ says it has court documents — took place in Austin, Tx, at 3:41 a.m. on April 13.

Earl Thomas was not arrested. However, his wife, Nina, was booked for burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — family violence, and later bonded out.

“Instead of talking about us, just keep us in y’all prayers,” Thomas said in his Instagram video. “Stuff like this happens. We try to live the best lives we possibly can. Sometimes it doesn’t go as planned.”

Report: NFL scheduling non-conference games first in case of need for shortened season

The Baltimore Ravens will face off against the NFC East first in the 2020 NFL season in case they need to be cut due to the coronavirus

The NFL is set to release the schedule for all 32 teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, on Thursday. But with the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing and no clear end in sight, precautions are being made in case there’s a need for a shortened season.

John Clayton confirmed to USA Today Sports Media Group the NFL is scheduling non-conference games first. Those games can more easily be cut without impacting playoff seeding as much in the event the 2020 NFL season has to be shortened due to social distancing rules still being in effect.

The Ravens are set to take on the NFC East this season, which means they’d see the following four teams in the first four weeks (the order isn’t released yet).

  • New York Giants at M&T Bank Stadium
  • Dallas Cowboys at M&T Bank Stadium
  • Washington Redskins at FedEx Field
  • Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field

The NFL has already eliminated any international games for the 2020 season, deciding to play every game in the United States for the first time since 2006. NFL executive vice president and general counsel Jeff Pash had previously said the league has been planning to start the season on time and play a full 16 games in front of fans.

The league has allowed teams to start virtual offseason workouts but have yet to announce any decisions on the timing or look of training camp and the preseason yet.

Schedule Release: Eagles could start 2020 season with 4 straight games against AFC North

Eagles could start 2020 season with 4 straight games against AFC opponents

The 2020 NFL regular season schedule is set to be released on Thursday and the Eagles early-season opponents could look a little different.

In past seasons the Eagles have opened up against a division opponent or someone from the NFC but the COVID-19 pandemic threatening football activities, the NFL has taken steps to protect the most important matchups.

John Clayton of 710 ESPN confirmed to Doug Farrar of USA TODAY Sports Media Group that the league has discussed having all 32 teams begin the season with four out-of-conference games as a scheduling precaution in case the season needs to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As we discussed on Tuesday, the Eagles will play four teams from a division in the AFC on a rotating four-year cycle (Bal, Cle, Pit, Cin) in 2020.

For the NFL, those games are considered the least important in terms of determining division winners and playoff standings.

The Eagles are scheduled to host the Ravens and Bengals while traveling to face the Browns and Steelers if Clayton is correct.

Last season, the Ravens were the No. 1 seed in the AFC, while the Steelers were besieged by injuries, yet nearly made the playoffs. Cleveland has a new coach in Kevin Stefanski, while the Bengals have Joe Burrows under center now after parting ways with Andy Dalton.

If Clayton is correct, it shapes up for an exciting first month of the season, with the prospects for the Eagles to start 3-1 and no worse than 2-2.

Ravens defensive depth chart projection following the 2020 NFL Draft

With the 2020 NFL Draft finished and the team gearing up for training camp, let’s take a look at how the Baltimore Ravens depth chart looks

The Baltimore Ravens nearly have their 90-man roster set up. With the addition of UDFAs, some free-agent help, and a 10-man 2020 NFL Draft class, the Ravens’ roster is pretty close to the final version we’ll see in training camp. As Baltimore begins preparing for on-field work, the front office will take a close look at their depth chart to find any potential holes still remaining and identify some of their more important roster battles.

On defense, the Ravens are returning most of their starters but have completely revamped their defensive line and inside linebacker corps this offseason. It’s a strategy that looks to stop their biggest flaw from last season while continuing to build towards the future. However, those changes mean more battles and new faces on Baltimore’s defensive depth chart.

Just as I did for the offense, we’re taking a look at the defense with the roster of players currently signed. Also, the Ravens tend to move players around into different roles depending on what packages they’re running, so this is ultimately an oversimplification of Baltimore’s defense and the jobs within.

Here’s how the Ravens’ depth chart on defense is shaping up right now:

Defensive tackle:

1st 2nd 3rd
Derek Wolfe Justin Madubuike Broderick Washington Jr.

Though the Ravens label this position as “defensive tackle” it’s really more of a defensive end in a 3-4 front. However, Baltimore tends to play their in-betweeners here . . . those guys that can rush the quarterback but offer more as a run defender.

Wolfe was signed to be that guy for the Ravens. He’s a complimentary piece on the defensive line that is solid against the run and has been able to get pressure on the quarterback as well, though that’s not exactly his strong suit. The same goes for Madubuike and Washington, though with both being rookies, they’re going to be relegated to backup roles initially and be groomed to replace Wolfe as early as next season.

Top primetime possibilities for the Jaguars in 2020

As fans of the team know by now, the Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the least-represented NFL teams when it comes to getting primetime games. Customary Thursday Night Football game against the Tennessee Titans aside, the Jaguars very rarely find themselves kicking off at 8 p.m. In fact, Jacksonville has only had three primetime fixtures in the last three seasons, with no late kickoffs in their 2017 10-win season.

Now, the Jaguars have announced that they are playing all eight home games on home soil this year and are scheduled to play multiple storied franchises. Simply put, the window of opportunity is wider than it has been in previous seasons.

The NFL is set to release the 2020 schedule on Thursday night and here are some possible match-ups to look out for in those primetime slots:

Away vs. Green Bay Packers

Fans should expect all the primetime games possible in Green Bay. With the Packers selecting Jordan Love in the 2020 NFL Draft, television coverage will be smothering Lambeau Field this season. Thankfully for the Jags, the Packers don’t host many illustrious teams next season.

Whilst there’s no indication that this will be the last year in green and yellow for Aaron Rodgers, if the Jaguars bookend the Packers’ schedule on either side, chances are they could be playing a primetime game.

Green Bay routinely receives the maximum allocation of late games, and with the team coming off the success of a 13-3 campaign, the Jags could fall favor to storylines out of their control.
