Oregon QB Austin Novosad turns heads; 4-star DL Ashton Porter sees stock rise

Oregon QB Austin Novosad was ranked ahead of Dante Moore at All-American Bowl practice, and Ashton Porter saw a big stock rise in the UA All-American game.

The first week of the new year has given us a great chance to get a closer look at some of the top recruits in the 2023 cycle, and for fans of the Oregon Ducks, that means that a lot of news is coming in about the new class coming to Eugene this spring.

Among the most notable players drawing buzz this week is Oregon’s 4-star QB Austin Novosad. After flipping from Baylor to the Ducks on signing day in December, Novosad comes to Eugene with hopes of being the QB of the future for the Ducks. Novosad suited up for practice at the All-American Bowl on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas, and he was able to turn a lot of heads, being ranked as the No. 1 QB on site, according to On3.

Elsewhere, Oregon’s newest defensive lineman Ashton Porter — who announced his commitment to the Ducks at halftime of the Under Armour All-American Game on Tuesday — saw his stock rise a lot as he gets set to head off to college.

Here is a roundup of everything that media members are saying about Duck commits after Tuesday:

Oregon lands commitment from 4-star DL Ashton Porter

The Ducks scored a nice win on the recruiting trail, landing 4-star DL Ashton Porter out of Texas.

The Oregon Ducks became the talk of the college football world during the Early Signing Period in December after they made waves in the recruiting world, and it looks like they are building on that success moving forward, adding a commitment from 4-star DL Ashton Porter.

Porter announced his commitment to the Ducks at halftime of the Under Armour NEXT All-American Game on Tuesday afternoon. After a successful visit to Eugene in early December, Porter was heavily favored to commit to Oregon.

Porter stands at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, and is rated by 247Sports as the No. 45 DL in the nation, and No. 325 overall player in the 2023 class.

With Oregon losing some key pieces on the defensive line this offseason, it’s important for the Ducks to rebuild up front and they are well on their way to doing that with the addition of Porter.

4-star DL Ashton Porter to announce commitment soon; Ducks hold as massive favorites

The Ducks might be adding a 4-star DL to the 2023 class soon. Ashton Porter is set to announce his commitment this week.

While the Oregon Ducks made a lot of noise in the early signing period of the 2023 recruiting cycle, we knew that there was a chance the class could continue to improve over the coming weeks with a few prospects left to announce their commitment.

One of those prospects is 4-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound tackle from Cy Ranch, Texas who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 39 DL in the nation and No. 329 overall player in the 2023 class.

Porter is set to announce his decision on Tuesday, January 3, at halftime of the Under Armour All-American game. He is down to a decision between the Oregon Ducks, Michigan State Spartans, Northwestern Wildcats, and Texas Longhorns. Oregon is the heavy favorite to land him at this point.

The UA All-American Game kicks off at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, so it’s likely that Porter’s announcement will come around 6 p.m. or so after the kick.

MSU projected to flip 4-star DL, NW commit Ashton Porter after official visit last week

Michigan State football is reportedly in a great position to steal one of their conference rival’s top recruits in the 2023 class

Michigan State football is reportedly in a great position to steal one of their conference rival’s top recruits in the 2023 class.

247Sports recruiting insider Justin Thind has entered a crystal ball projection in favor of Michigan State flipping four-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter’s commitment from Northwestern to the Spartans. Porter has been committed to Northwestern since June but took an official visit to Michigan State last weekend — which apparently went very well.

Porter ranks as the No. 46 defensive lineman and No. 308 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2023 class. He hails from Cypress, Texas and ranks as the No. 56 prospect in the 2023 class from the Lone Star State.

If the Spartans are able to officially flip Porter, that would be a great get for the 2023 class. Michigan State already has a handful of big-time defensive lineman commits in the 2023 class so this would be just another feather in the Spartans’ cap.

4-star DL, NW commit Ashton Porter to take official visit to MSU this weekend

Michigan State is working hard to flip one of the top 2023 commits of a fellow Big Ten school

Michigan State is working hard to flip one of the top 2023 commits of a fellow Big Ten school.

Four-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter confirmed on Tuesday that he’ll be taking an official visit to Michigan State this weekend. Porter is currently committed to Northwestern and ranks as the Wildcats’ second-highest commit in the 2023 class.

Porter ranks as the No. 46 defensive lineman and No. 308 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2023 class. He hails from Cypress, Texas, and ranks as the No. 56 player from the Lone Star State.

Porter holds offers from more than 30 programs, including Michigan State. Along with the Spartans and Wildcats, he has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Miami (FL), Oklahoma State, TCU, Tennessee, Texas and Nebraska.

It’ll be interesting to see if Michigan State can make enough progress in Porter’s recruitment this weekend to potentially flip him from the Wildcats. He has been committed to Northwestern since June but a strong visit this weekend could potentially change that in the Spartans’ favor.

Texas receives a crystal ball prediction for four-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter

Bo Davis is already heating up for 2023!

The Longhorns are looking to jumpstart their 2023 recruiting class, and are already trending in the right direction for a big recruit.

Although the 2022 class is pretty much all wrapped up outside of a couple more names, the recruiting grind never stops. The staff is looking to add more talent and depth to help turn the program around for years to come.

The 2023 class is becoming the main focus, and defensive line coach Bo Davis is seeming to continue his hot streak of recruiting playmakers. On Monday, Texas received what is now their second crystal ball prediction for four-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter.

The latest crystal ball was entered by Horns247 insider Mike Roach. Porter is ranked as the No. 175 overall prospect in the country by 247Sports, and the No. 32 recruit in the state of Texas.

He currently holds 21 offers from schools such as Arkansas, Baylor, and TCU among others.

Texas needs all the help they can get in terms of pass rush and stopping the run, so adding Porter early on in the class will only help the team continue to trend upwards.
