Marshon Lattimore has now been charged with a fourth-degree felony for allegedly receiving a stolen firearm, per Cleveland court records accessed by the Times-Picayune | Advocate’s Amie Just. The New Orleans Saints cornerback must pay 10% of his $5,000 bond to be released from Cuyahoga County Jail. Just added that Lattimore has waived his preliminary hearing, so the case will advance to a grand jury.

It’s tough to say will happen next. Whether Lattimore is sentenced to serve time in prison, pay a fine, or wait out probation is yet to be determined. Any potential league discipline or suspension is also uncertain. So it’s best to remain patient and let these legal issues play out rather than speculate one way or another.

The situation surrounding New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore’s arrest in Cleveland late Thursday evening continues to develop. Lattimore’s attorney Marcus Sidoti issued a statement to Cleveland.com’s Adam Ferrise that said:

Mr. Lattimore, a proud Cleveland native with no prior criminal record or history, is fully cooperating with law enforcement’s investigation of this matter. He was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police and was arrested without incident and was not formally charged. We believe that this was a misunderstanding, and that this will become even clearer as new information becomes available and is shared with the authorities.

Lattimore is accused of not telling police officers on the scene that he had a gun, with additional issues arising once the gun was found by police to be stolen. His cooperation with police should help clear things up, so check back for updates.

This is a developing story.

Cleveland police report details on Marshon Lattimore’s arrest

Cleveland police shared details on their arrest of New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, alleging possession of a stolen handgun.

[mm-video type=video id=01f1qmwh5a6j2mfr27 playlist_id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f1qmwh5a6j2mfr27/01f1qmwh5a6j2mfr27-2a94cf8b45dfe4226c2096d8e87d742b.jpg]

It was reported early Friday morning that New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was arrested in his Cleveland hometown Thursday evening, though he has not been charged with a crime. The Cleveland police department reported context on the situation: Lattimore was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property as well as failing to notify officers that he had a weapon in his possession.

ESPN’s Mike Triplett shared a report from police that Lattimore had a loaded handgun on his person, which was later found to be stolen. The Athletic’s Katherine Terrell added more information from the police report, which said that a car with four passengers, one of them Lattimore, was pulled over following traffic violations. During the traffic stop, officers said they discovered a loaded Glock-19 handgun.

All four men in the car were arrested under suspicion, with the other two passengers brought in for having weapons under disability while the driver was arrested for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle (in addition to a citation for non-functional taillights). Two weapons were allegedly found in the vehicle.

Amie Just of the Times-Picayune | Advocate reported that, as of 1 p.m. CT on Friday, Lattimore remains in Cleveland police custody. Ohio state law requires that citizens carrying concealed firearms during a traffic stop must inform police of it, which is what Lattimore is accused of not doing, and which would be a first-degree misdemeanor if he is charged. Conditions for possessing stolen property are a little more murky, but if the value of stolen goods exceeds $1,000, it would change from a misdemeanor to a felony.

There are a lot of moving parts to this situation, so keep an eye out for updates. Lattimore has not had an opportunity to comment publicly. At this early stage in the legal process, speculating on where things could develop would be irresponsible at best.

Report: Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore arrested in Cleveland

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, three-time Pro Bowler and Ohio State Buckeyes alum, was arrested in his Cleveland hometown.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://saintswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Cleveland.com’s Adam Ferrise reports that New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of receiving stolen property, though he has not been charged. Lattimore was held at Cuyahoga County Jail, which released a photo of his booking photo.

Lattimore, who turns 25 in May, is a Cleveland native and graduate of the city’s Glenville High School who studied at nearby Ohio State University. The Saints selected him eleventh overall in the 2017 NFL draft, which led to 2017 Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and three Pro Bowl selections.

Details of Lattimore’s arrest or the allegations against him remain unclear, and it’s noteworthy that he has not been formally charged with a crime. Much more context will be needed here before the situation develops further.

Still, the timing could not be worse. He is entering the final year of his contract with the Saints while playing out his fifth-year team option, valued at more than $10.2 million, with a lucrative extension on the horizon. He is also one of a handful of corners under contract with the team for the 2021 season, though free agent T.J. Carrie is visiting New Orleans.

Stay tuned for updates.

Police foil quarantined snowboarder’s plan to ride early

A snowboarder from the U.S. was fined $1,150 after cutting his 14-day quarantine in Canada short to try to hit the slopes at Whistler Blackcomb resort.

A snowboarder from the U.S. was fined $1,150 after cutting his 14-day quarantine in Canada short to try to hit the slopes at Whistler Blackcomb.

The plan might have worked but the man was pulled over last Monday as he neared the British Columbia resort for driving with expired license-plate tags.

According to CBC, the police officer contacted the Canada Border Services Agency and learned that the unidentified man still had two days left on his quarantine order.

“They had chosen to leave their home in North Vancouver and were attempting to go up to Whistler to do some snowboarding a bit early,” Kevin Goodmurphy, a CBSA spokesman, told CBC. “It’s all risky behavior. There are quarantine rules in place for a reason … and we take it seriously,”

The man was ordered back to the home to continue his quarantine.

Whistler Blackcomb has opened for 2020-21 under a reservations system designed to limit access and allow for social distancing. Other measures designed to stop the spread of COVID-19 also are in place.

NFL suspends wide receiver Antonio Brown for 8 games

Free-agent, wide receiver Antonio Brown has been suspended by the NFL for the first eight games of the 2020 season.

As was expected for several months now, embattled free agent wide receiver Antonio Brown has been officially suspended by the NFL.

First reported by the Washington Post’s Robert Klemko, the league handed Brown a lofty eight-game suspension due to violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Brown had recently pleaded no contest to battery charges against a truck driver in Florida, which landed him a lengthy probation sentence.

Now the league has weighed in with its own judgment on the matter.

Unfortunately for Brown, this may not be the end of discipline from the NFL. The legal buck doesn’t stop with the battery charges, as Brown still faces a sexual misconduct lawsuit.

This very well could be the final nail in the coffin of what was a Hall of Fame-caliber career for Brown. A free agent since last September, Brown was linked to Seattle as a potential landing spot and was even seen working out with quarterback Russell Wilson. Now that he is suspended, any chatter about him coming to Seattle will likely be put to bed for good.

With his legal issues, volatile personality, and now a suspension that will likely last at least half the 2020 season, Brown is far too toxic for any team to sign. If he is signed, it will be by a desperate team late in the year.

Of course, none of this might even matter for Brown as he apparently retired from the league . . . for a second time. Although, given his recent track record, it’s hard to say for certain if he will want to stay that way.

Kareem Hunt knows ‘I’ve got to be smarter’ to stick around the Browns

Kareem Hunt knows ‘I’ve got to be smarter’ to stick around the Browns

“I’ve got to be smarter and cannot be doing stuff like that.”

Kareem Hunt said a lot with his proclamation during a Zoom teleconference with reporters on Monday, but nothing is more important than that self-aware admission that he must do a better job of staying out of trouble.

Hunt has always been forthright in acknowledging his poor behavior, and he stayed true to form in Monday’s Zoom session. Without specifically addressing the infamous Cleveland hotel altercation that got him suspended for half a season and exiled from Kansas City, or the tearful traffic stop this winter that nearly cost him his Browns career, the running back covered what he has discussed with new GM Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski.

“Just pretty much, I cannot have that. It is not acceptable. I’ve got to be smarter and cannot be doing stuff like that,” Hunt said. “We had a good talk. They see me on the field as a guy who is going to make some plays this year and help the team win. That is what I have been looking forward to. We have been talking. I keep in touch with coach all the time about what he wants to see and stuff like that.”

He appreciates the chances he’s been given with his hometown team, too.

“I am blessed that the Browns gave me another opportunity. So yes, I am lucky to have another opportunity to play football. You never know. Honestly, I am just blessed to play the game, so I always feel lucky to play football. I know any second it can be gone.”
