Arizona at USC college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Arizona Wildcats at USC Trojans sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and bets.

The Arizona Wildcats (19-8, 9-5 Pac-12) visit the USC Trojans (19-9, 8-7) Thursday night in a Pac-12 battle at Galen Center. Tip-off is at 10 p.m. ET. We analyze the Arizona-USC odds and betting lines, with college basketball betting advice and tips around this matchup.

Arizona at USC: Three things you need to know

  1. USC heads into the game having lost two in a row and five of its last seven. Four of those defeats were on the road; at home, the Trojans are 11-2. Southern Cal did beat Arizona at the Galen Center a year ago (80-57) and has won six of the last nine home meetings against the Wildcats.
  2. Arizona has put together subpar performances against up-tempo teams who can drain mid-range jumpers and collect offensive boards at a sharp clip. USC only clicks in one of those areas; the Trojans are a top-75 team in the rebounding department. USC has averaged 10 offensive boards per game over its last five games.
  3. The Wildcats and Trojans met Feb. 6 in Tucson, and Arizona won 85-80. The Wildcats led throughout and at one point in the second half held a 20-point lead. USC gradually whittled away at the deficit the rest of the way. Arizona finished the contest plus-6 in rebounding margin (33-27) and plus-5 in turnover margin (6 to 11).

Prediction

Arizona 69, USC 66

Moneyline (ML)

PASS on USC (+180).

Against the Spread (ATS)

The Trojans are 6-1 over their last seven games as an underdog. They are 10-3 ATS over their last 13 against teams playing better than .600 basketball, and the home team is 5-1 ATS over the last half-dozen USC-Arizona meetings. The lean is on USC but for some illness issues among a couple key players (see below).

PASS on USC (+5, -110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is 4-1 in Arizona’s last five games as a favorite, 5-1 in the Trojans’ last six games following an ATS loss and 20-8 in USC’s last 28 games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600. The Under is also 39-18-1 in the Trojans’ last 58 home games.

USC seniors Jonah Mathews (virus) and Nick Rakocevic (virus) had both been listed as questionable but were upgraded to probable this afternoon. They are two of the Trojans’ top players. One has to figure they may not be at full strength and may not factor into the final minutes of a game that gets away from USC. TAKE THE UNDER 139.5 (-115) as a strong play in this one.

Oregon at Arizona college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Oregon Ducks at Arizona Wildcats sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and bets.

The Oregon Ducks (20-7, 9-5 Pac-12) travel to meet the Arizona Wildcats (19-7, 9-5 Pac-12) at McKale Memorial Center in Tucson at 9 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Oregon-Arizona odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

The Ducks are ranked 16th in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll. The Wildcats are ranked 21st.

Oregon at Arizona: Three things you need to know

1. Arizona is two full games back of first-place Colorado, while Oregon sits in a three-way tie with Arizona State and UCLA for third at 2 1/2 games behind the Buffaloes. In other words, this is a huge game.

2. The Ducks are coming off a 77-72 loss at Arizona State Thursday, and they’re just 2-3 straight up and against the spread across their past five outings, including three straight losses on the road.

3. The last time these teams met was a classic, as the Ducks outlasted the Wildcats 74-73 in overtime Jan. 9 in Oregon. They failed to cover a three-point number as the Over (140) limped across the finish line.

Prediction

Arizona 72, Oregon 65

Moneyline (ML)

Arizona (-200) is expected to keep Oregon (+165) down, but the Wildcats are not a good play since you have to risk twice as much as your potential return. AVOID and look to the line for better value.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Expect this to be a tight game as far as the spread, too. ARIZONA (-5, +100) is worth a small-unit play, but this one should be tight from the jump. Oregon (+5, -121) cannot be trusted on the road, especially since the Ducks are sinking like a stone lately. The Wildcats have covered three in a row, and they’re 5-2 ATS in the past seven overall.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 140.5 (-115) is the way to go in this one, as it is an important game and Oregon might be tight offensively from the start. The Under is 6-3 in the past nine for Arizona, and 5-1 in Oregon’s past six away from home. The first battle was likely to go Under, too, if not for overtime. A small-unit parlay with Arizona and the Under is the play here.

Oklahoma has ‘at the very least’ reached out to Arizona for running back coach DeMarco Murray, per report

The first real name to fill the void left by former running backs and special teams coach Jay Boulware has emerged.

The first real name to fill the void left by former running backs and special teams coach Jay Boulware has emerged.

Former star Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray dipped into the coaching ranks prior to the 2019 football season for Kevin Sumlin at Arizona. According to a report from Michael Lev of the Arizona Daily Star and Tuscon.com, the Sooners have “at the very least has reached out to Arizona in regard to Murray”.

According to Lev, Murray was out on the road recruiting with the rest of the Arizona football staff and that it was unclear if contact from Oklahoma was anything more than exploratory, but Arizona is “preparing for that possibility” of losing him.

Murray played at Oklahoma under current inside wide receivers coach Cale Gundy from 2007-10. A Las Vegas, Nevada, native, Murray was a major piece to the Sooners’ 2008 team that went to the national championship game and the 2010 team that won the Big 12 Championship and Fiesta Bowl. He accounted for 5,256 yards from scrimmage in his Oklahoma career and 63 touchdowns.

Murray would go on to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. In 2014, he was named the NFL AP Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns. Murray finished his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans in 2017.

Boulware was making $470,000 a year as Oklahoma’s running back and special teams coach in 2019. Murray was making $235,000 as Arizona’s running back coach in 2019.

He is the first true name to have any traction to Oklahoma’s running back coach opening.

Arizona at Oregon college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Arizona Wildcats at Oregon Ducks sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks and tips.

The Arizona Wildcats (11-3, 1-0 Pac-12) and Oregon Ducks (12-3, 1-1 Pac-12) lock horns at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene at 9 p.m. ET Thursday. We analyze the Arizona-Oregon odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

The Ducks are ranked ninth in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll. The Wildcats are ranked 24th.

Arizona at Oregon: Three things you need to know

1. Arizona ranks eighth in the nation with 83.1 points per game (PPG) and 10th in field-goal percentage at 49.1. Defensively, the Wildcats have held the opposition to a 36.9 field-goal percentage, ranking 12th in the country.

2. Oregon isn’t as prolific offensively, ranking 41st in the country with 78.5 PPG. However, the Ducks are 11th in field-goal percentage (49.0) and seventh in 3-point percentage (39.9).

3. G Payton Pritchard does it all, leading Oregon in points (18.7) and assists (5.9). For Arizona, it’s F Zeke Nnaji, who leads in points (16.6), rebounds (8.1), field-goal percentage (69.1) and blocked shots (1.1).

Back OREGON (-161) to win outright at home. There’s better value on the spread, but this is still a fine play with a $10 bet returning a profit of $6.20.

Against the Spread (ATS)

OREGON (-3, -110) is the play on home court, and Arizona (+3, -110) can be a little suspect on defense. The Wildcats are also 1-8 ATS in the past nine games on the road, and just 2-6 ATS in the past eight games overall.

For the Ducks, they’re 22-4 ATS in the past 26 games overall, and 25-10 ATS in the past 35 games at home, while going 20-6 ATS in the past 26 against winning teams. Oregon is a slam-dunk play, so enjoy!

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 142.5 (-110) is worth a look, as both of these teams have tremendous stars who can score the basketball early and often.

The Over is also 6-2 in Arizona’s past eight against winning teams, while hitting in four of the past five at home for Oregon. The Over is also 8-2-1 in the past 11 overall for the Ducks, and 6-2 in the past eight against winning sides.

Oregon and the Over makes for a nice little parlay.

Gonzaga at Arizona odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Gonzaga Bulldogs at Arizona Wildcats sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs (10-1, 0-0 WCC) will square off with the Arizona Wildcats (10-1, 0-0 Pac-12) at McKale Memorial Center in Tucson at 10 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Gonzaga-Arizona odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Gonzaga at Arizona: Three things you need to know

1. The Bulldogs have recorded wins against Pac-12 teams Oregon and Washington already this season. The Over hit in both matchups.

2. The Wildcats have just one loss, a 63-58 setback at Baylor Dec. 7. At home they won by 50 last time out over Omaha, and five of their past six games in Tucson have been double-digit victories.

3. Gonzaga topped Arizona 91-74 last season in the Maui Invitational semifinals, and the Zags have won six of the previous nine meetings in this series.

Prediction

Gonzaga 83, Arizona 77

Moneyline (ML)

There was no moneyline posted at the time of publishing. GONZAGA would be the pick on the road, even though Arizona is certainly hostile territory. The Bulldogs have faced plenty of adversity already, so don’t expect them to be fazed.

Against the Spread (ATS)

GONZAGA (+3.5, -139) is a strong option on the road, especially considering Arizona (-3.5, +115) is just 1-4 ATS in the past five overall, and 0-4 ATS in the past four against teams with a winning percentage over .600.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Gonzaga to cover the spread and stay within 3 points in a loss or win outright would profit $7.20 if it does so.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 152.5 (+110) is a great option in this high-profile matchup. The total has gone Over in five straight for the Zags. While the Under is 5-2 in Arizona’s past seven against winning teams, the Over is 4-1 in the past five on its home floor.

Sean Miller is still sweating completely through his shirts

How does a person sweat this much?

Sweating is a normal thing to do — especially in situations where you get nervous or stressed. It’s a reflex all humans have and a perfectly fine thing to do. That’s why we have deodorant. It helps.

But there is no antiperspirant in the world, apparently, that can help Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller. He sweats through shirt after shirt after shirt like it’s nothing. It’s honestly incredible to see.

On Saturday, while coaching the Wildcats through a game at Baylor, he sweat all the way through a pretty nice looking lavender shirt. He’s literally just drenched in sweat. It’s wild.

We should probably give Miller a bit of credit. At least it’s not as bad as that one time he sweat through an entire shirt after just 10 minutes. Still pretty bad, though.

No clue how Miller is going to solve this problem, but it’s 2019. There has got to be some sort of super sweat wicking shirt he could wear or some sort of absorption undergarment that can help. This is a lot.

Even aside from it being a bit embarrassing to sweat out a shirt on national television, it has to get pretty expensive buying shirts after sweating them completely out.

What a shame. Hopefully for his own sake, he takes care of this problem soon.

Prediction

Moneyline (ML)

The Sun Devils are almost a slam dunk bet on the moneyline, but it won’t earn you much money. The line for Arizona State is -556. A bet on the Wildcats at +375 could be a big winner but they haven’t played well enough to take that bet.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Arizona State returns a profit of $1.80.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The Sun Devils are big favorites at -12.5. They are coming off a big win against the previously sixth-ranked Oregon Ducks. Arizona State has covered the spread in only four games this season but the Wildcats have covered only twice.

Arizona State has covered six of the last 10 games against Arizona but only one of the last three.

Arizona State should win easily. Take the SUN DEVILS and give up the points (-12.5, -121).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is set at 59.5 points. Both teams’ seasons suggest the Over is the better choice as it has hit in six of each team’s 11 games this season.

Arizona has a top offense and Arizona State can put up points, while the Wildcats are bad defensively. Take the OVER (-110).

Arizona-Oregon odds: Ducks are four-score favorites at home

Previewing Saturday’s Arizona Wildcats at Oregon Ducks sports betting odds and lines, with college football matchup analysis and picks.

In Week 12 of the 2019 college football season, the Arizona Wildcats (4-5) will travel to Autzen Sta.dium to play the Oregon Ducks (8-1). Below, we analyze the Arizona-Oregon odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Arizona at Oregon: Three things you need to know

1. Arizona has won just five of the last 19 meetings between these two teams.

2. Oregon has won eight straight games after losing to Auburn in Week 1.

3. Oregon has covered the spread in four of the last six games.

Prediction

Oregon 52, Arizona 20

Moneyline (ML)

As you would expect, Oregon (-2500) is a massive favorite at home in this Pac-12 matchup. Arizona (+1100) just doesn’t have the offense to keep up with the Ducks, but they especially don’t have the defense to stop QB Justin Herbert and the Oregon offense. Expect Oregon to win easily Saturday evening.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Oregon returns a profit of $0.40.

Against the Spread (ATS)

OREGON (-27.5, -115) is a four-touchdown favorite over its Pac-12 rival. Oregon has covered the spread in four of the last six games, due to its outstanding defense that is allowing just under 16 points per contest. Combine that with a likely first-round pick at quarterback, it’s not hard to see them covering this massive spread.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this Pac-12 matchup is set at 68.5, which seems high considering just how dominant Oregon’s defense has been this season. However, Oregon’s offense is explosive enough to score 50 or more points, so expect the OVER (-115) to hit late in this contest.

PREVIEW: The Wildcats will be heavy favorites when they take on San Jose State for the first time since 1984. Arizona comes into the game looking good after dispatching Illinois on Sunday, but they aren’t the only one with an impressive early win.

The Spartans turned some heads in their season opener when they traveled to Long Island and took down Hofstra. Heralded JUCO transfer Richard Washington was as advertised, scoring 23 points off the bench in his debut. Returning starters Craig LeCesne, Seneca Knight, and Brae Ivey also scored in double digits against the Pride.

But the home opener this past Sunday quickly went sour as Portland came into town and walked out with a relatively easy 72-57 win. Only Washington made it into double figures, with the team collectively shooting under 40% from the field in the loss.

Arizona, on the other hand, has the early look of a national contender after their first two games. They made quick work of Northern Arizona in their opening game. Wildcats assistant head coach Jack Murphy spent seven seasons as the head coach of the Lumberjacks, only to face them in his first game at his new post in Tucson.

The Wildcats boast a trio of freshmen that are trying to make their mark on a program with a lot of history. Nico Mannion, Josh Green, and Zeke Nnaji have been spectacular so far, averaging a combined 50.5 points per game. Mannion was particularly good against Illinois, finishing with 23 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and two steals.

But Arizona can also draw on a lot of experience, both from players who have come up through this program, or through transfers who have had success elsewhere. Chase Jeter, Dylan Smith, and Ira Lee were all around last year, while Max Hazzard, Jemarl Baker, and Stone Gettings all transferred in to provide depth for Sean Miller.

While the Wildcats will surely dazzle on offense, their defense has been stellar as well. Arizona registered 14 steals against the Illini, who committed 22 total turnovers in the game. San Jose State will have to take better care of the ball than Illinois did if they want to stay close.

This is the first—and toughest—of four games for the Spartans against Pac-12 opponents this season. San Jose State will also take on Oregon State, UCLA, and Stanford during non-conference play.
