Oregon vs Arizona Game Preview

Why Oregon Will Win

The Ducks are rolling.

They had the rough start against Georgia, and over the next four games they’ve averaged 50 points per outing.

The passing game has been great, and when it was a bit off – like it was in the 45-27 win over Stanford last week – the ground attack picked up the slack. It all starts with an offensive line that allowed just one sack so far and paved the way for six yards per carry.

Arizona hasn’t been great against the run – it allows six yards per carry – and was picked apart by the Mississippi State’s passing game in the loss and North Dakota State’s attack in a win.

Oregon should be able to figure out how it wants to move the ball, but …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Arizona Will Win

Arizona turned the ball over six times in the two losses and two times in the three wins. As long as the mistakes aren’t there – penalties haven’t been a big problem – and if the offense can get the passing attack going, it has a shot.

Former Washington State QB Jayden de Laura has taken off. He threw for 401 yards in the loss to Cal, followed it up with 484 yards and six touchdown passes in the win over Colorado, and it’s all clicking with former UTEP star WR Jacob Cowing.

Oregon’s defense has talent, but it doesn’t force enough takeaways with five in five games, and it doesn’t come up with enough third down stops.

Yeah, the passing game is great, but there’s a problem …

What’s Going To Happen

The weather.

It’s supposed to thunderstorm during the day in Tucson on Saturday, and it’s still up in the air whether or not it’s going to last into the early evening by the time the game starts. At the very least the conditions should be a bit sloppy.

Oregon can run the ball, and Arizona is just okay at it. Oregon is second in the Pac-12 against the run allowing 95 yards per game. Arizona is 125th in the nation allowing 213 per outing.

The Oregon O line will take over.

Oregon vs Arizona Game Preview

Why Arizona Will Win

So what’s going right?

Things aren’t exactly going well when you lose at home to Northern Arizona, but this is all a work in progress for a program undergoing a total overhaul.

On the positive side, the defense is making plays behind the line – the offense will eventually get there; any D is good D in Tucson – and the secondary hasn’t been all that bad.

As great as Oregon has been, it’s defense gives up passing yards, the defense has hardly been a rock, and there should be just enough penalties to be annoying.

However …

Week 4 College Football Expert Picks

Why Oregon Will Win

The Arizona offensive line is – let’s just say – having issues.

The pass protection isn’t there – everyone is getting in the backfield on this O – and there’s no running game whatsoever. It’s a bad mix.

No ground attack means harder third down conversions, and no time to work make moving the chains impossible – the Wildcats are dead last in the country on third downs, converting just 20% of the time.

To blow this, Oregon has to turn the ball over a gajillion times, and that’s not happening – it only has one turnover so far.

Week 4 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Oregon isn’t exactly going to look ahead to the trip to Stanford and the nastier Pac-12 games ahead, but it can do that after the first half.

Arizona just doesn’t have the lines. The D will do just enough to be annoying in the backfield, and it should be just okay enough to keep the team in the game for a little while.

Oregon will wake up, go on a few decent scoring drives, and that will be it. Arizona won’t be able to push back.

Oregon at Arizona college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Oregon Ducks at Arizona Wildcats sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and bets.

The Oregon Ducks (20-7, 9-5 Pac-12) travel to meet the Arizona Wildcats (19-7, 9-5 Pac-12) at McKale Memorial Center in Tucson at 9 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Oregon-Arizona odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

The Ducks are ranked 16th in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll. The Wildcats are ranked 21st.

Oregon at Arizona: Three things you need to know

1. Arizona is two full games back of first-place Colorado, while Oregon sits in a three-way tie with Arizona State and UCLA for third at 2 1/2 games behind the Buffaloes. In other words, this is a huge game.

2. The Ducks are coming off a 77-72 loss at Arizona State Thursday, and they’re just 2-3 straight up and against the spread across their past five outings, including three straight losses on the road.

3. The last time these teams met was a classic, as the Ducks outlasted the Wildcats 74-73 in overtime Jan. 9 in Oregon. They failed to cover a three-point number as the Over (140) limped across the finish line.

Prediction

Arizona 72, Oregon 65

Moneyline (ML)

Arizona (-200) is expected to keep Oregon (+165) down, but the Wildcats are not a good play since you have to risk twice as much as your potential return. AVOID and look to the line for better value.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Expect this to be a tight game as far as the spread, too. ARIZONA (-5, +100) is worth a small-unit play, but this one should be tight from the jump. Oregon (+5, -121) cannot be trusted on the road, especially since the Ducks are sinking like a stone lately. The Wildcats have covered three in a row, and they’re 5-2 ATS in the past seven overall.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 140.5 (-115) is the way to go in this one, as it is an important game and Oregon might be tight offensively from the start. The Under is 6-3 in the past nine for Arizona, and 5-1 in Oregon’s past six away from home. The first battle was likely to go Under, too, if not for overtime. A small-unit parlay with Arizona and the Under is the play here.

Why Oregon Will Win

The Ducks haven’t been consistent over the last few weeks, but the defense is still strong, and still been able to come up with a whole lot of takeaways.

To pull this off on the road, through, they’ve got to get hot from three early on. They’re 10-0 when they shoot better than 40% from three – they lead the Pac-12 from the outside.

Arizona’s defense is solid, but lately it’s been having issues stopping too much inside and out, allowing teams to hit 41% or better overall in four of the last five games. It all starts from being able to force turnovers to get the O going, but …

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Arizona Will Win

The Wildcats don’t turn the ball over.

They’re fantastic at coming up with the extra pass, they’re air-tight in the backcourt, and they find ways to get to the line and make the most of all their scoring chances.

Yes, Oregon is amazing from three, and yes, Arizona has had issues guarding from the field over the last few games, but it only allowed one team – the loss to UCLA – to connect from better than 38% from beyond the arc in the last six games.

What’s Going To Happen

These two played a thriller the first time – Oregon got by Arizona in overtime 74-73 – but here comes the revenge. The home side will move the ball too well, avoid Oregon’s pressure, and pull off its seventh win in eight games.

The Ducks have lost their last three road games. Make it four in a row.

Oregon (8-1) vs. Arizona (4-5) Game Preview

If want in on this week’s games, sign up with BetMGM

Why Arizona Will Win

Oregon’s defense suddenly looks very, very beatable.

It’s got the talent, and it has the athleticism, but after holding five straight teams to seven points or fewer – following the great overall defensive performance in the 27-21 loss to Auburn – there’s been a big problem.

The run defense has been okay – no one’s been able to get consistently generate any sort of a push up front – but the pass defense is getting hit hard.

That’s what happens when you play the better quarterbacks.

Jacob Eason hit 77% of his passes with big play after big play in Washington’s loss to the Ducks. Washington State went Washington State for over 400 yards and over eight yards per throw, and USC  two weeks ago went for three scores as the Kedon Slovis and his dangerous receiving corps were able to throw for 264 yards – the third-most UO allowed this year.

Arizona is splitting time between freshman Grant Gunnell and veteran Khalil Tate, and they’re combining to put up big plays for a passing game that’s averaging 300 yards per game.

The Wildcats have the offense to bomb away from the start, but …

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Oregon Will Win

The Oregon secondary is making up for the big yards it’s allowing with lots and lots and lots of interceptions.

Colorado was able to move the ball a bit and get in range to make things interesting in Eugene, but the Ducks came up with four picks in the 45-3 rout.

Yeah, Anthony Gordon and Washington State went off and almost pulled off the upset, but two interceptions – with one going for a score – ended up being an issue.

Last week against Slovis and those great Trojan receivers? Oregon picked off three passes with one going for a touchdown.

Interceptions haven’t been a massive issue for Arizona, but he’s had three multiple pick games. But that’s just one side of the ball. The other is having a nightmare of a time coming up with any meaningful stops.

Arizona has allowed over 400 yards of total offense in every game, and isn’t doing any one thing particularly right.

The Oregon offense can – and will – move the ball however it wants to.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s been a wee bit of a grind at times over the last few weeks for Oregon, but it’s finding ways to win, and it’s about to crank up the offense.

The Wildcats have enough firepower to put up a few points, but the defense isn’t stopping anyone or anything. This isn’t normally a Duck offense that hangs big numbers on the board, but as long as it’s focused after two weeks off, it’ll score 50 getting off the bus.
