Vince Young reveals the potential plan for five-star quarterback Arch Manning

Vince Young believes redshirting would benefit Arch Manning.

Texas fans are already chomping at the bit to see five-star quarterback Arch Manning take snaps in the Burnt Orange.

Longhorn faithful may have to be patient with Manning getting on the field according to Texas quarterback legend Vince Young.

Young made an appearance on ESPN’s First Take on Thursday where he stated that he’s heard Manning use a redshirt in his first college season.

“I really feel like Arch has a great opportunity. One of the things that I am hearing is that he is going to redshirt. That’s going to help out a lot so you can understand how to travel with the team, get the feel of the fans, the university. So, when you have those types of things and you take a year off like when I played with Coach [Mack] Brown, I redshirted. And I feel like that redshirt year helped me understand how to be a quarterback at the University of Texas, and then what you go through, traveling and things like that.”

Manning’s redshirting resolves the potential quarterback battle between him and Quinn Ewers. Texas is set up to have Ewers lead the offense for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Manning will compete for the job going into his redshirt freshman season.

On3 now views Texas as the favorite to land five-star QB Arch Manning

Texas is back in the driver’s seat for Arch Manning.

In what has been a very back and forth recruiting battle between some of the nation’s top blue bloods, Texas has taken the lead in the race for Arch Manning.

The five-star prospect and No. 1 overall recruit according to every major recruiting outlet has been conducting one of the quietest and most mysterious recruitments we have seen in a while.

However, every once in a while something squeaks through the cracks to provide enough information that influences where experts think he will attend. While it has flip flopped from Texas to Alabama, according to On3 it has changed to Texas again.

Even with reports stating that other schools such as Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida are trying to get in the mix, it is believed to solely be a three-team battle between Texas, Georgia, and Alabama.

Alabama has descended from the top spot to third for Manning, but that seems to be because they have become the overwhelming favorite to land four-star Eli Holstein who recently decommitted from Texas A&M.

Here is what On3’s Chad Simmons is hearing when it comes to the recruitment of Manning.

Depending on who you talk to, you hear it is a different two schools at the top. The school I have heard the most about consistently is Alabama with Bill O’Brien being the leader in Manning’s recruitment. Not far behind though is his connection with Steve Sarkisian of Texas and Buster Faulkner at Georgia.

Schools like Florida, LSU and Ole Miss have tried to stay in this race. But it is a three-team race. The question now is, when will Manning make his decision?

If the Longhorns can add Manning to their 2023 class, high level talent would surely follow. In order to stand out as the frontrunner and add Manning, it will likely come down to Texas showing improvement in the upcoming season, especially after the dreadful 5-7 season in 2021.

Former Texas QBs pitch Longhorns to major Georgia target Arch Manning

Texas brought out Colt McCoy and Sam Ehlinger to pitch Arch Manning…

2023 quarterback prospect Arch Manning, the No. 1 player in his class, most recently visited the Texas Longhorns led by offensive guru, head coach Steve Sarkisian.

It’s a sweepstakes among major programs for the nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning.

The Longhorns reportedly brought out the big guns on Manning’s visit this past weekend.

Former Texas quarterbacks and current NFL signal callers Colt McCoy and Sam Ehlinger pitched the young star in Austin.

Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman reported that coach Sarkesian and staff greeted Manning upon arrival.

“When you recruit high-level players, we can’t get impatient because we don’t have guys just committing left and right,” Sarkisian said. “We could get guys to commit, but they might not be the right guys for our program.”

John Garcia Jr. of Sports Illustrated reported in October that Manning said the decision could come as early as this spring.

The Isidore Newman prospect visited Georgia the weekend of March 19 and according to sources within the program, was thoroughly impressed with the Bulldogs.

Other programs in the running are Alabama and Ole Miss.

Whomever Manning does choose will have a day one starter on their hands.
