Miami leads five ACC teams in latest AP Poll Top 25 after Week 10

After a crazy Week 10 slate, a new ACC team emerged as the biggest threat to the Miami Hurricanes atop the conference.

For most of the 2024 college football season, ACC fans believed that the Miami Hurricanes and Clemson Tigers were on a crash course for the conference championship game.

Miami owned the most productive offense in the country thanks to Heisman Trophy frontrunner Cam Ward, and the Tigers (with two national championships under their belt since 2016) had looked absolutely unstoppable since their Week 1 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs. Other teams around the conference looked impressive, but there was a clear top two. Right?

Well, not so much after Saturday.

The Louisville Cardinals left Death Valley with a 33-21 victory over Clemson, leaving tattered dreams of the College Football Playoff bracket in their wake. While the Hurricanes shifted up one spot to No. 4 in the newest AP Poll, the Tigers slid all the way down to No. 19 with a second loss on their resume.

The Clemson loss left an opening in the ACC power vacuum, and the SMU Mustangs vaulted forward to fill it with a 48-25 victory over the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Panthers. In their first year as members of the conference, the Mustangs have now won their first five ACC games with wins over Louisville, Duke, and Pittsburgh on their ledger, and it helped them climb seven spots to No. 13 in the new AP rankings.

The Oregon Ducks held tight onto the top spot after a 38-17 road victory over the defending national championships, the Michigan Wolverines, who dropped to 5-4 for the year. The Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas Longhorns joined Miami within the top five.

Big Ten’s ‘big three’ lead the way in week ten rankings

Five Big Ten teams are ranked in the polls ahead of week ten.

The Big Ten Conference is again leading the way nationally in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll.

The Big Ten has three of the top five teams in the country heading into week ten, with the Oregon Ducks leading the way at No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches Polls. The Ducks received 61 of 62 first-place votes in the AP Poll and 53 of 54 first-place votes in the coaches poll.

The SEC’s Georgia Bulldogs was the only other program to receive first-place votes this week.

The Penn State Nittany Lions and Ohio State Buckeyes remain the No. 3 and No. 4. The two Big Ten powers will meet this week in Happy Valley for one of the biggest college football games this season.

After Ohio State, the next highest-ranked Big Ten team is the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers. After a blowout victory over the Washington Huskies, the Hoosiers remained at No. 13 in both polls.

The final Big Ten team ranked in this week’s polls was the Illinois Fighting Illini, who, after a weekend loss to Oregon, fell to No. 23 in the Coaches Poll, down three spots, and No. 24 in the AP Poll, down four spots.

No other Big Ten teams received votes in this week’s AP Poll, while the Michigan Wolverines received one vote in the coaches poll.

Colorado ranked in AP Top 25 for first time this season

Colorado is officially ranked for the first time this season

Whether they like it or not, the Colorado Buffaloes are ranked in the AP Top 25 college football poll for the first time this season.

Head coach Deion Sanders’ Buffs landed No. 23 in the post-Week 9 AP Poll following a 34-23 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday. Colorado, which improved to 6-2 on the season (4-1 Big 12), picked up 152 votes.

In his postgame press conference on Saturday, Coach Prime shared that his Buffs would prefer to maintain their underdog status.

“We don’t even want to be ranked,” Sanders said. “Don’t rank us, please. We don’t like that. We’d rather be in the back, in the dark, just chilling. We good, we cool, we straight, so don’t feel pressure to rank us.”

Coach Prime did get his wish in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, which had Colorado as the highest vote-receiving team outside the top 25.

Colorado will enjoy a Week 10 bye before facing Texas Tech in Lubbock on Nov. 9.

Wisconsin remains unranked in latest AP Top 25 Poll after Week 9

Wisconsin remains unranked in latest AP Top 25 Poll after Week 9

The Wisconsin Badgers (5-3, 3-2 in Big Ten) remain unranked in the AP Top 25 poll after Week 9 of the college football season.

After outscoring Purdue, Rutgers and Northwestern 117-16 in a three-week stretch, UW fell 28-13 to No. 3 Penn State at Camp Randall on Saturday. This marks the tenth consecutive week Wisconsin failed to crack the top 25 hierarchy.

The team’s performance against Penn State will likely erase any chance of joining the ranking in the coming weeks, despite the Badgers’ impressive recent offensive output.

The top five in the poll did not change much after Week 9. Oregon claimed the No. 1 spot after Week 8 and remains in the driver’s seat after a 38-9 win over No. 20 Illinois in Eugene, Oregon.

Georgia still holds the No. 2 spot, followed by Penn State (No. 3), Ohio State (No. 4), Miami-FL (No. 5) and Texas (No. 6). Outside of the Ducks, Nittany Lions and Buckeyes, other Big Ten teams in the AP Poll top 25 include Indiana at No. 13 and Illinois at No. 24.

Wisconsin’s next contest is slated for Nov. 2 against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on NBC.

AP Poll drops Texas to No. 6 after struggling to beat Vanderbilt

Despite an SEC road win over a ranked team, the Texas Longhorns dropped one spot in the newest AP Top 25 ranking.

It was a road win in the SEC against a ranked team, but Texas’ narrow victory in Nashville against Vanderbilt wasn’t enough to keep Texas at fifth in the AP Top 25 Rankings.

After soundly beating rival Florida State 36-14, the Miami Hurricanes have jumped one spot above Texas to No. 5. The Horns are now No. 6 in the AP Poll, the same spot they occupy in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

The top four teams, Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State and Penn State all remained the same.

The Aggies moved up four spots to No. 10, jumping Clemson and Iowa State. A&M defeated LSU 38-23, who tumbled eight spots to No. 16.

No. 8 Notre Dame is back in the top ten after blowing out Navy. BYU also makes its first appearance in the top ten at No. 9. Missouri and Illinois both fell to the bottom of the rankings, but both are still ranked after losses.

Notre Dame’s destruction of Navy has given the Fighting Irish a boost in the AP Top 25 poll. The Irish jump from No. 12 to No. 8.

Navy falls out of the top 25, although the Midshipmen did receive votes.

The top 10 is now Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami (Florida), Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, BYU and Texas A&M.

Big movers other than the Irish include Texas A&M after it beat LSU — which falls eight spots to No. 16 — Illinois (down four spots to No. 24 after being blown out by Oregon) and Missouri (down four spots after being shutout in a blow out by No. 14 Alabama).

Tigers hold place in AP Top 25 after road win over Arkansas

The Tigers moved up one spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll, but they’re staying put in the AP Top 25.

LSU did what it needed to do in Week 8, going on the road and winning in comfortable fashion against a solid Arkansas team 34-10.

However, with a relative lack of chaos going on around them, the Tigers didn’t see a substantial rise in either poll. After entering the week ranked No. 8 in both polls, they moved up one spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll to No. 7.

Meanwhile, in the AP Top 25, there was no change as LSU ranked No. 8 for another week. While previous No. 7 Alabama fell eight spots to No. 15, the Tigers were jumped by Tennessee, which moved up to No. 7 after knocking off the Crimson Tide.

The Tigers will have the chance to earn a top-15 win when they travel to face No. 14 Texas A&M on Saturday in Week 9.

Penn State jumped in AP Top 25 during bye week

Penn State was passed by an SEC powerhouse in this week’s AP Top 25.

Penn State was sitting at home this weekend to rest up for the second half of the regular season. While at home, Georgia scored the win of the weekend with its road win against Texas, handing the previously top-ranked Longhorns their first loss of the season. Despite not having a loss on its record, Penn State was passed over by the Bulldogs in this week’s updated AP Top 25.

Penn State was also jumped by Georgia in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Penn State remained no. 3 in the coaches poll to maintain its position in the other major poll out of the bye week.

New Big Ten member Oregon took over the top spot in this week’s AP poll, receiving 59 first–place votes. Georgia received the two remaining first-place votes this week as they pushed ahead of Penn State in the voting.

In addition to Penn State and Oregon, the Big Ten is represented in this week’s AP Top 25 by Ohio State (no. 4), Indiana (no. 13), and Illinois (no. 20). Nebraska, who was blown out by Indiana this weekend, received one point in this week’s poll.

Penn State will visit Wisconsin this Saturday night when they return to the field.

Notre Dame stays at No. 12 in AP Top 25 poll

Notre Dame stays in the same spot in the AP Top 25 poll this week.

Notre Dame’s 31-13 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets wasn’t enough to move the Fighting Irish up in the AP Top 25 poll.

Nor did the Irish slide down. Notre Dame remains at No. 12.

Most of the movement is in the Top 5. Oregon moves up one spot to No. 1, while former No. 1 Texas drops four spots to No. 5 after falling to Georgia 30-15. Speaking of Georgia, the Bulldogs jump three spots to No. 2 after the win over Texas.

Two teams that were idle this week — Penn State and Ohio State — remain in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots.

The rest of the top 10 is Miami (Florida), Tennessee, LSU, Clemson, and Iowa State. The big mover there is Tennessee, which jumps four spots after beating Alabama. Iowa State dropped a spot despite beating UCF.

Big movers up or down include Alabama, which drops 8 spots to No. 15 after the loss at Tennessee, and Indiana, which moves up three spots after defeating Nebraska.

Notre Dame fans will note that not only are USC and Michigan not in this week’s Top 25, neither one even got a vote.

Todd Golden ‘not satisfied’ with Florida basketball’s preseason ranking

Gators men’s basketball head coach Todd Golden using the No. 21 preseason ranking as a “starting point” for upcoming season.

The Florida men’s basketball season is just over two weeks away, and anticipation is building as the program gears up for what promises to be an exciting year.

Head coach Todd Golden is heading into his third season with the Gators and after an appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season, the men’s basketball team looks to build upon that this year.

Florida earned the No. 21 spot in the preseason AP poll, marking the first time since 2019 that the Gators entered the season ranked in the top 25.

“Yeah, I think it says that we’re on the right track,” Golden said about the ranking at SEC media days. “As you said, we’re not spending a whole lot of time applauding ourselves on being ranked 21st. Like I said, we appreciate the respect that we’re receiving from the AP, and it means a lot to us.”

Golden emphasized that the Gators aren’t content with their No. 21 ranking, viewing it instead as “a starting point” for the season ahead.

“We’re using that as a starting point, but we’re not satisfied with that being our final ranking,” Golden said. “But now going into year three, we feel like being ranked there and then having the opportunity to maybe advance in the tournament if we do what we’re capable of will be the right trajectory for what this program needs and what it deserves. It’s a nice honor, but we’re not satisfied with that.”

As the season-opener approaches, the team’s focus is on building chemistry, staying competitive and climbing past their preseason ranking. For Golden and his players, this is just the start—they have their sights set on a deep run in March.
