Texas not ranked in updated AP Poll after Week 4

Texas goes unranked for third straight week in AP Poll.

After being the team with the most votes on the outside looking in of the USA TODAY ACSA Coaches Poll, the Longhorns found themselves in the same exact spot in the AP Poll.

Texas has been unranked since they went into Arkansas as the No. 15 team in the nation, and lost by 19 points in Week 2. However, Texas has been a completely different team since then, as they have made a change at quarterback and are now led by Casey Thompson who has been stellar in his first two career starts.

Thompson has thrown for 467 yards and seven passing touchdowns along with a rushing touchdown over the past two games. The Longhorns have also been averaging 64 points through their last two, which granted one game was against Rice, but they did drop 70 points in a blowout win over undefeated Texas Tech.

The offense is finally running through star running back Bijan Robinson, who knew that getting him the ball would be the best way to win football games? In all seriousness, Texas did not find themselves ranked, but the voters have noticed their improvement as they received the most votes for an unranked team.

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Oregon
  4. Penn State
  5. Iowa
  6. Oklahoma
  7. Cincinatti
  8. Arkansas
  9. Notre Dame
  10. Florida
  11. Ohio State
  12. Ole Miss
  13. BYU
  14. Michigan
  15. Texas A&M
  16. Costal Carolina
  17. Michigan State
  18. Fresno State
  19. Oklahoma State
  20. UCLA
  21. Baylor
  22. Auburn
  23. NC State
  24. Wake Forrest
  25. Clemson

Contrary to the coaches poll, the AP Poll has dropped Oklahoma out of the top four, giving Penn State the nod at the fourth spot and Iowa remained at No. 5. Some other things to note, is that Arkansas is now the No. 8 team in the nation after beating Texas and now Texas A&M. Two Big 12 schools in Oklahoma State and Baylor made their first appearances in the Top 25, and Clemson has plummeted all the way to No. 25 and is at risk of being unranked for the first time in what feels like forever.

This poll will likely see some shakes up again very soon, as there are multiple ranked matchups within the next two weeks that can turn this college football season on its head. In the case of Texas, they just need to keep winning, which will be tough in their next stretch of games.

Texas takes on TCU in Week 5, who has absolutely owned them winning seven of the last 10, and follows that game up with facing all three of the currently ranked Big 12 teams. We will truly see how good this Texas team is very soon.

Week 1 AP poll drops LSU Tigers out of the top 25

The LSU Tigers fall completely out of the top 25 AP Poll, follows the trend from the coaches poll released earlier on Tuesday.

Following the release of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, we have the other half of the equation. The AP top 25 poll is now out as well. The LSU Tigers fell completely out of the Coaches edition after the 38-27 loss to the UCLA Bruins. Following the game, head coach Ed Orgeron took full blame for the loss.

Much like the voters in the coaches poll, the AP voters dropped the Tigers completely out of the top 25 while their opponents jumped into the poll. It was the quickest exit of the AP poll for the LSU Tigers to start a season since the 1983 season when they were ranked No. 12 in the preseason and by week two fell out completely.

Alabama held onto the top spot in this poll as well as dismantling the top 15 ranked Miami Hurricanes. Georgia climbed to the No. 2 spot where Oklahoma previous was ranked. The Sooners survived an upset scare from Tulane on Saturday.

AP Poll rankings: Georgia football not a top-4 team

Georgia is listed as the No. 5 team in the country…

The 2021 preseason AP Poll top-25 is out and Georgia football finds itself outside looking in.

The Associated Press has the Bulldogs listed as the No. 5 team in the country behind Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma and defending champion Alabama.

Georgia returns 84% of its production on offense, including star quarterback J.T. Daniels, and besides a new-look secondary – which now features two of the top defensive backs in the country in transfers Derion Kendrick and Tykee Smith – Georgia will have one, if not the best front seven in college football. Pair that with returning the SEC’s best special-teams unit a year ago and I don’t see how you can put the Bulldogs anywhere but the top-4.

AP Poll voters clearly prioritized Oklahoma and the play calling ability of head coach Lincoln Riley along with Heisman-hopeful quarterback Spencer Rattler in listing Oklahoma at No. 2.

The Sooners’ defense should be the question…

While Oklahoma allowed 350 yards per game on average in 2020 (middle of the pack), the defense looked abysmal against a 4-6 Kansas State which put up 38 points on the way to an upset win. Iowa State was able to put up 37 points in the Sooner’s only other loss in 2020.

Not saying the unit can’t improve but there is a significant gap in defensive play here. For example, the Sooners have allowed 54 points per game to SEC teams in the college football playoffs on the way to an 0-3 record.

On the other hand, Alabama and Clemson are undeniable here. Alabama has reloaded with quarterback Brice Young and Ohio State transfer receiver Jameson Williams after losing some top playmakers on both sides of the ball, but when does coach Nick Saban not reload?

Clemson is once again a powerhouse even after losing some key playmakers as well. Quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei looked fantastic when given the chance behind Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers’ defense returns almost every starter from a year ago.

Georgia versus Clemson on Sept. 4 is going to be an awesome matchup.

Then there is Ohio State, who replaces star quarterback Justin Fields with former five-star C.J. Stroud and returns two of the top receivers in the country in Garret Wilson and Chris Olave. But on defense, the Buckeyes took a big dip in 2020 after losing multiple stars to the NFL draft. If Ohio State can find continuity on that side of the ball, they should own the Big Ten in 2021. That said, none of these things constitutes a higher ranking than the Bulldogs…

Several other SEC teams received high praise from AP voters. Texas A&M is listed at No. 6 even after losing star quarterback Kellen Mond to the NFL. The Aggies return a serious run game and most of its defensive production, which finished behind Georgia as the top unit in the SEC in 2020.

The final SEC teams included in the poll is Florida at No. 13 and LSU at No. 16.

Michigan State Basketball remains at No. 9 in the final AP Poll of the season

Michigan State basketball closes out this season at the No. 9 spot in the final AP Poll. Read some more details about this ranking here.

[jwplayer VePIeMDQ-PROpJzTY]

Michigan State basketball closes out this season at the No. 9 spot in the last AP Poll of the season. Remember, last week the Spartans finally jumped back into the top 10. This came after a rather impressive run to end the regular season, including victories over Maryland, Iowa, & Ohio State on senior day. Note, this is the third straight year in which MSU basketball closed out the season in the top 10.

Michigan State basketball moved all over the AP Poll this year. In February, the Spartans completely dropped out of the AP Poll Top-25 during a rough stretch. MSU also spent a lot of time in the No. 16 spot this year as well. Obviously, this all comes after the Spartans opened this season at the No. 1 spot for the first time ever.
