8 potential replacements for Eagles injured safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Here are eight players that Philadelphia could consider as potential replacements for an injured C.J. Gardner-Johnson in the Eagles’ secondary

The Eagles could be without safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson for a few weeks after a test revealed that he suffered a lacerated kidney in the Sunday night win over the Packers.

Former Eagles star tight end Zach Ertz suffered a similar injury late in the 2019 season during a win over the Cowboys and was expected to miss the playoffs.

The NFL’s interception leader with six, Gardner-Johnson has been a stabilizing force at safety.

Here are eight potential replacements for Gardner-Johnson.

Colts activate S Jahleel Addae, RB Marlon Mack from COVID-19 list

The Colts activated two more players from the COVID-19 list on Friday.

The Indianapolis Colts activated safety Jahleel Addae and running back Marlon Mack from the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced Friday.

As expected, more activations have been happening throughout the week. The Colts had five players get activated on Wednesday and three players get activated on Thursday. There are still more to come, but the majority of players have been activated.

Getting Addae back is a pretty big deal given the thin depth in the safety room. Starter Khari Willis was activated this week from the COVID-19 list while George Odum would likely replace Andrew Sendejo, who is still in the league’s concussion protocol.

Mack has been a healthy scratch for the majority of the season but given how quickly this new variant can render a player out, it’s good to have him available in case something were to happen in the running back room.

The Colts still have a few players on the list that need to be activated on Saturday, but their numbers are getting stronger by the day.

6 Colts whose stock rose in 22-16 win over Cardinals

These Colts rose their stock in the 22-16 win over the Cardinals.

With the Indianapolis Colts (9-6) going into State Farm Stadium and coming out with a 22-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals (10-5), we saw several players increase their stock with the team.

Some of it was due to simply showing out during a game that was destined to be sloppy from the start. Others had to step into a bigger role because of recent COVID-19 issues. Regardless, we saw several players increase their stock on Saturday night.

Here are six Colts whose stock rose from the Week 16 win:

Colts activate S Jahleel Addae to 53-man roster

The Colts activated S Jahleel Addae to the 53-man roster and waived CB Anthony Chesley.

The Indianapolis Colts activated safety Jahleel Addae from the practice squad to the active roster and waived cornerback Anthony Chesley, the team announced Saturday.

Addae had been residing on the practice squad while being called up on gamedays as an extra body. Given that he’s already maxed out his two call-ups for the season in the last two weeks, the Colts needed to sign him to the active roster in order to make him available for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Though the team is hopefully Khari Willis can return in Week 12, Julian Blackmon is out for the remainder of the season due to a torn Achilles. Depth is needed in the room anywhere they can get it.

In his two games played with the Colts, Addae has three tackles while playing 10 defensive snaps and 14 special teams snaps.

Colts protect two practice squad players in Week 11

Colts placed two players on the protected practice squad in Week 11.

The Indianapolis Colts protected safety Jahleel Addae and quarterback Brett Hundley on the practice squad ahead of the Week 11 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, per the league’s transaction wire.

With Khari Willis remaining on the injured reserve list with a calf injury and Julian Blackmon out for the season with a torn Achilles, the Colts have been elevating Addae to the active roster for game days. He’s done so twice already in Weeks 9 and 10.

If he’s to play on Sunday against the Bills, the Colts will have to make a roster move and sign him to the active roster.

Rookie quarterback Sam Ehlinger has carved out a role as the backup behind starter Carson Wentz but the Colts still like Hundley as a “break glass” option so it should be no surprise he gets protected for another week.

Colts activate CB T.J. Carrie, elevate S Jaleel Addae

The Colts made roster moves ahead of the Week 10 matchup against the Jaguars.

The Indianapolis Colts activated cornerback T.J. Carrie from the injured reserve list, waived cornerback BoPete Keyes and elevated safety Jahleel Addae from the practice squad, the team announced Saturday.

With Carrie returning to the active roster, he’s likely to be on a pitch count coming off of a knee injury.

Addae comes up from the practice squad to add some depth at safety with both Khari Willis and Julian Blackmon on the injured reserve list.

Colts protect 3 practice squad players in Week 10

The Colts protected 3 practice squad players in Week 10.

The Indianapolis Colts protected three practice squad players ahead of the Week 10 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, per the league’s transaction wire.

The three players the Colts protected in Week 10 include safety Jahleel Addae, cornerback Darqueze Dennard and quarterback Brett Hundley.

Given the injuries at the safety position, it makes sense the Colts would protect Addae and Dennard. Khari Willis was placed on the injured reserve list and still has two more games before being eligible to return while Julian Blackmon is out for the remainder of the season due to a torn Achilles.

The Colts are expected to see the return of cornerback T.J. Carrie soon as he was designated to return from the injured reserve list on Tuesday but it remains to be seen if that will be this week. There’s a chance he helps out more as a safety than a cornerback given the depth needed there.

As for Hundley, he will remain as the QB3 with rookie Sam Ehlinger taking over backup duties behind Carson Wentz.

Colts activate WR Dezmon Patmon, place S Khari Willis on IR

The Colts activated WR Dezmon Patmon from IR and placed S Kahri Willis on IR.

The Indianapolis Colts activated wide receiver Dezmon Patmon from the injured reserve list and placed safety Khari Willis on the injured reserve list, the team announced Thursday.

Ahead of the Thursday night game against the New York Jets, the Colts will be getting some depth in the wide receiver room back. Patmon will make his season debut after going on the injured reserve list following the preseason.

Willis suffered a calf injury against the Tennessee Titans in Week 8 and was ruled out for Thursday night’s game on the final injury report. It’s serious enough to force him to miss the next three games.

The Colts also elevated safety Jahleel Addae from the practice squad to the active roster. Addae was signed to the practice squad last week.

In the safety room, the Colts are likely to start Josh Jones and Andrew Sendejo while Addae and George Odum will rotate in as well.

Colts sign Jahleel Addae, Eli Wolf to the practice squad

The Colts added S Jahleel Addae and TE Eli Wolf to the practice squad.

The Indianapolis Colts signed safety Jahleel Addae and tight end Eli Wolf to the practice squad and released guard Zack Bailey from the practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.

Both Addae and Wolf were among the seven players the Colts hosted for a workout on Monday. Given their need for depth in the secondary, it makes sense they add a veteran to the practice squad.

Addae, 31, entered the league in 2013 as an undrafted free agent signing with the Chargers. He spent six seasons in San Diego (2013-2018) followed by stints with the Houston Texans (2019) and again with the Chargers (2020).

In 107 games (62 starts),  Addae has five interceptions, 26 passes defended and 18 tackles for loss. With Julian Blackmon on the injured reserve list with a torn Achilles, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Addae was moved up to the active roster soon.

Wolf, 23, signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020 with the Baltimore Ravens out of Georgia. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad and was waived by the Ravens in August.

Colts hold tryout for 7 players

Jahleel Addae and Damarious Randall were among the seven players who worked out for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for seven players on Monday, five of which were defensive backs and the other two players being tight ends, per the league’s transaction wire.

With injuries hitting the cornerback and safety rooms, it’s no surprise the Colts are working out defensive backs. They need to find all the depth they can after BoPete Keyes left with a hamstring injury and Xavier Rhodes played through a calf injury he suffered during pregame warmups.

The players that tried out for the Colts include:

  • S Jahleel Addae
  • TE Nick Eubanks
  • S Rashaan Gaulden
  • CB Isaiah Johnson
  • DB Damarious Randall
  • TE Eli Wolf

It will be interesting to see if any of these players are added to the practice squad as the Colts are currently running with a safety room led by Khari Willis and Andrew Sendejo.
