Ravens release second injury report for Week 18 matchup vs. Steelers

The Ravens released their second injury report for their Week 18 game against the Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens will face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18 in their final game of the regular season, and quite possibly the final game of Pittsburgh quarterback’s Ben Roethlisberger’s career. It will be a hard fought game that could be a close one as well.

On Thursday, Baltimore released their second injury report ahead of their Week 18 matchup with the Steelers. It was once again headlined by quarterback Lamar Jackson, who didn’t practice for the second time in two days this week after suffering an ankle injury in Week 14 of the 2021 season.

Other players who didn’t practice for the second-straight day include outside linebacker Odafe Oweh and cornerback Anthony Averett (ribs/chest). wide receiver Marquise Brown (ankle) and guard Ben Cleveland (head) didn’t practice for the first time this week.

Running back Devonta Freeman, offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva and defensive lineman Brandon Williams all didn’t practice on Thursday as they were given a day of rest.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 17 matchup vs. Rams

The Ravens released their inactive players list ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Rams

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Los Angeles Rams in a high-stakes Week 17 matchup. Baltimore needs a win if they want to have a realistic shot at making the playoffs, and they’ll have to do so against a talented Los Angeles team.

Ahead of the contest, the Ravens released their inactive players list, which was once again headlined by quarterback Lamar Jackson. The quarterback was seen limping noticeably in his return to the practice field on Wednesday and didn’t practice after that.

The Baltimore defense is going to have its hands full with the Rams offense, and it’s going to be a lot tougher without outside linebackers Odafe Oweh and Pernell McPhee, as well as cornerback Anthony Averett. The good news is that the defense will get back a lot of their players from the Reserve/COVID-19 list who were out last week so the pass rush should be able to handle the loss of Oweh. wide receivers James Proche II and Miles Boykin and guard Ben Powers round out the list for the Ravens.

Fullback Patrick Ricard is active today, which will help out the running game for Baltimore. With Ricard and tight end Nick Boyle both playing, the Ravens’ offense might be able to make some plays and keep up with the high-powered Los Angeles Rams offense.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh gives another injury update on CB Anthony Averett

Baltimore Ravens head coach provided an injury update on cornerback Anthony Averett.

The Baltimore Ravens have seen their secondary become very thin after injuries and COVID-19 cases have ravaged the team’s locker room. They have had to bring in countless new additions at cornerback in particular, as player after player continues to go down.

In Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, cornerback Anthony Averett left the matchup early after taking a hit to the ribs from Bengals tight end C.J. Uzomah. Averett would have to be carted off the field and was ruled out shortly after.

On Monday, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that Averett “suffered a fractured rib on Sunday,” leaving his availability for Week 17 in jeopardy.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh later provided an injury update on Averett during his weekly Monday press conference.

“He has some rib issues,” Harbaugh said. “It’ll be just a matter of whether he can move around and play with it. We’ll probably see later in the week – see how he’s feeling and how he’s moving.”

The final two weeks for the Ravens are crucial for the team in notching a spot in the playoffs. Having Averett in the secondary certainly helps the team’s ability to win games.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh gives brief injury update on CB Anthony Averett

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gave an injury update on cornerback Anthony Averett after the team’s Week 16 loss to the Bengals

The Baltimore Ravens have seen their cornerback room be reduced to practically nothing over the course of the 2021 season. They lost star cornerback Marcus Peters before the year began, and have seen most of the remaining players at the position be picked off one by one as the year has progressed.

In Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore lost another one of their cornerbacks in Anthony Averett, who went down in a large amount of pain after tackling Cincinnati tight end C.J. Uzomah. Averett was carted off of the field and eventually ruled out for the remainder of the game. When asked about Averett after the game, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh provided a brief update on the cornerback.

“Yes, it’s a rib [injury]. It might be some kind of a rib deal right there. So, we’ll see how he’s feeling tomorrow.”

Baltimore simply can’t afford to lose any more players at cornerback, especially with two must-win games coming up against the Los Angeles Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hopefully the injury isn’t as serious as being carted off usually entails and the fourth-year cornerback will be able to return in Week 17.

Ravens rule CB Anthony Averett for remainder of Week 16 with injury

The Baltimore Ravens ruled cornerback Anthony Averett out for the remainder of Week 16 with a chest injury

The Baltimore Ravens have seen their secondary become littered with injuries over the course of the 2021 season. Particularly at the cornerback position, the team has lost countless players, severely impacting their season.

In Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore lost yet another cornerback, as Anthony Averett made a tackle on Cincinnati tight end C. J. Uzomah and went down in extreme pain. He ended up being carted off of the field and initially ruled as questionable to return, but the team eventually ruled him out for the remainder of the contest.

With the injury to Averett, the Ravens had just one healthy cornerback remaining from their 2021 preseason depth chart in Tavon Young. However, Young also appeared to get injured, leaving Baltimore dangerously thin in their secondary.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh describes ‘frantic’ pregame in Week 11 vs. Bears

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh described how “frantic” pregame was before the team took on the Bears in Week 11

The Baltimore Ravens were able to pick up a 16-13 victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 11. It was a gutsy and gritty win, as the team was dealing with not having many of their stars available, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, who missed the contest with an illness.

After the game, head coach John Harbaugh described the pregame as “frantic”, talking about how every week has been a challenge due to the injuries the team has gone through, especially in Week 11 when they didn’t know if Jackson, cornerback Anthony Averett and a few others would be able to play.

“It was frantic. We had 53 on the roster this week, which made the math a little easier, for me anyway. It was not knowing if Lamar [Jackson] was going to be there, and then Anthony [Averett], and there might have been another guy or two that I’m forgetting about. But it’s just been that way all year. It’s been that way all year. Every single week has been a challenge, in terms of who’s going to be up and down, so we’ve got to get everybody ready, and our coaches have done a great job of that – preparing, really, the whole roster to play, because it turned out to be, ‘You’ve got to be ready to play.’ Ar’Darius [Washington] came in and played six plays on defense [and] played some plays on special teams. It wasn’t like he would have thought at the beginning of the week he was going to be playing. So, I’ve really got to credit our coaches and the players for doing that.”

When the Ravens downgraded wide receiver Marquise Brown to out and Jackson to questionable the afternoon before the game, it was obvious that the Week 11 game day roster was going to look different. However, little was it known that Averett and fellow cornerback Jimmy Smith would also miss the contest with ailments of their own.

This season has been very strange for the Baltimore, but they have continued to overcome a lot of the injuries and are persevering through it all. Hopefully they can continue to grind out wins and do enough to set themselves up for a deep playoff run while winning the AFC North in the process.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 11 matchup vs. Bears

The Ravens officially announced their inactives list ahead of their Week 11 game with the Chicago Bears

The Baltimore Ravens’ inactive list for Week 11 against the Chicago Bears has a lot of big-name players on it, namely quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson has been dealing with an illness for most of the week but looked like he was going to be playing after coming back to practice on Friday.

Things took a turn on Saturday afternoon when Jackson was put back on the injured list and downgraded to questionable.  He tried to give it a go today before the game, but he’s clearly still not feeling like himself. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley will make his first-career start today for Baltimore.

The Ravens’ secondary is also taking a hit this afternoon with cornerbacks Jimmy Smith and Anthony Averett both inactive.  This season has been a brutal one in terms of injuries for Baltimore, but they need to continue to persevere if they want to maintain their lead in the AFC North Division race.

The remainder of the inactives for the Ravens are wide receiver Marquise Brown and Miles Boykin, offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi and defensive tackle Brandon Williams. The team used every inactive spot on an injured/sick player.

The Bears put out their inactives list as well, and they will also be missing multiple key contributors.

Bleacher Report names Ravens’ biggest weakness

Bleacher Report identified the Ravens’ biggest weakness

The Baltimore Ravens have put together a 6-3 record through 10 weeks of the 2021 season despite a brutal amount of injuries. They currently lead the AFC North, and will look to continue playing to their strengths over the remainder of the year.

However, like every team, Baltimore has a few weaknesses that they need to shore up in order to play the best football possible. Brett Sobleski of Bleacher Report identified each NFL team’s biggest weakness, and for the Ravens he chose their passing defense. When explaining his decision, Sobleski mentioned multiple games where Baltimore’s pass defense surrendered far too many yards.

“Baltimore surrendered more than 400 passing yards to Las Vegas and Cincinnati, plus 290 passing yards to a Miami team that has failed to reach 200 five different times this season. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa entered partway through the third quarter and went 8-of-13 for 158 yards.”

Sobleski also mentions the loss of a star cornerback that has potentially contributed to the secondary’s struggles.

“The Ravens cannot expect to rely on late-game heroics and win consistently. That’s going to be a problem, though, against teams that can move the ball through the air. The Ravens lost star cornerback Marcus Peters to a torn ACL before the season and rank 29th in yards per attempt allowed and last in passing yards per game surrendered.”

The Ravens rank in the bottom five of the league in passing yards given up (2,550) and net yards per attempt given up (7.3). Despite having talent such as Marlon Humphrey, Anthony Averett, Chuck Clark and more, the passing defense just hasn’t been able to put it together. Injuries to Peters and DeShon Elliott have had massive impacts, but the team will have to improve in that area if they want to make a deep playoff run.

Ravens release final injury report for Week 11 matchup vs. Bears

The Ravens released their final injury report ahead of their Week 11 matchup with the Bears

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Chicago Bears in Week 11 of the 2021 season. Baltimore is coming off of a disappointing 22-10 defeat to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10 which dropped their record to 6-3. However, they still hold the top spot in the AFC North.

The Ravens have dealt with a massive amount of injuries over the course of the 2021 season. Friday’s final injury report before Week 11 shows just that, as Baltimore had a whopping 17 players on the list, including some very high profile names such as quarterback Lamar Jackson, as well as wide receivers Marquise Brown and Rashod Bateman.

The injury report looks like a laundry list. However, it does point out that Jackson, Bateman, center Bradley Bozeman and tight end Nick Boyle were all full participants in practice, which bode very well for their availability on Sunday.

Limited participants included running back Latavius Murray, Brown, offensive lineman Patrick Mekari as well as cornerbacks Tavon Young and Jimmy Smith. Each of those players would give the Ravens a very big boost if they are able to play, and would be big losses if they couldn’t.

Cornerback Anthony Averett popped up on the injury report for the first time on Friday, as he did not participate in practice. It would be a crushing blow if Averett is unable to go in Chicago, as the Baltimore secondary is already extremely thin.

The Ravens ruled out wide receiver Miles Boykin, defensive lineman Brandon Williams and outside linebacker Pernell McPhee. Defensive lineman Calais Campbell had a rest day on Friday.

Jacoby Brissett is set to start for the Dolphins

It was just announced that Jacoby Brissett will start for the Miami Dolphins tonight on Thursday Night Football.

The Baltimore Ravens didn’t know exactly which quarterback they’d be going up against, until 6:16 pm.  It was announced on Twitter that Jacoby Brissett will start tonight as Tua Tagovailoa is still recovering from a finger injury.  Brissett is a decent starter in the league and can put up numbers and has a better chance of making an impact on the game so the Baltimore Ravens defense needs to be prepared for the big plays.  It’s another setback for the former first-round draft pick out of Alabama who still can’t seem to stay healthy.

The Baltimore Ravens need to start the game fast and get a lead early in order to prevent the Miami Dolphins from having a chance to win.  Jacoby Brissett is very capable of putting up numbers with his arm and his legs.  Brissett will probably be targeting Anthony Averett on the outside.  With the absence of Brandon Williams, the front-seven needs to get good pressure on Brissett.
