Joe Buck, Troy Aikman on the call for Saints Week 16 matchup in Green Bay

Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Lisa Salters will be on the call for the Saints’ Week 16 matchup against the Green Bay Packers:

The New Orleans Saints are back in a primetime slot for the first time in a little while, and this time they will take on the Green Bay Packers in Week 16 at Lambeau Field. With this, they are on Monday Night Football, which will be covered by the ESPN crew of Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Lisa Salters.

Buck and Aikman are a pairing that fans may recognize as one of the more unfavorable announcing crews of the options available, as Buck has been perceived to have a general lack of emotion in his commentary at some points, and Aikman has a few different criticisms from different points of view. Ultimately in recent games, they have been better, however, and it seems the quality of their broadcasts has improved lately which is a great sign.

In a game that could be slow-moving to start off due to strong defenses and weather conditions, this could be a perfect point of emphasis for the crew of Buck, Aikman, and Salters to use to their advantage, as they can analyze the play and schemes of each team as they work through the opening parts of the matchup. Aikman’s analysis from the point of view of a former player always provides some level of quality content, and Buck has strong analysis as well at many points. Pairing them up with Salters is a good choice, as she has immense experience as well and knowledge of the game.

A Super Bowl XLIV champ is on the call for Saints vs. Rams

The announcers for Week 13 have been revealed. Super Bowl 44 champ Jonathan Vilma is calling the Saints vs. Rams matchup on FOX:

The announcers for the New Orleans Saints matchup with the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday have been revealed, according to Yahoo Sports who announced the full list for all games.

FOX will have Kenny Albert, Jonathan Vilma, and Megan Olivi on the call for this matchup. Albert is in a family of many broadcasters, including his father Marv Albert (NBA), and his uncles Al Albert and Steve Albert. Kenny Albert handles events from all four of the primary United States Sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL).

Jonathan Vilma is well known by Saints fans, as he was part of the Super Bowl XLIV team, and was a five-year Saints linebacker from 2008 to 2013. He has called quite a few Saints games in recent years, including this year with their early season game with the Atlanta Falcons.

Megan Olivi has primarily a background in MMA, as a news and events reporter and host of UFC Ultimate Insider, a sports broadcast shown on Fox Sports 1. In recent years she has been on a few different NFL crews, including with Aqib Talib, Gus Johnson, Brandon Gaudin, and others.

The Saints and Rams will kickoff at 3:05 p.m. CT/4:05 p.m. ET from the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Dodgers-Yankees announcers on Fox: Who’s calling the 2024 World Series?

Here’s who’s calling the 2024 World Series between the Yankees and Dodgers.

It’s World Series time, folks! And the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers are facing off, playing for another Commissioner’s Trophy to add to their illustrious collections of awards.

To get to the 2024 World Series, the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series and then topped the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series. On the other side of the league, the Yankees took down the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series before beating the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Championship Series.

Fox will broadcast all seven games of the World Series — should all of them be necessary — and you might be wondering: Who are those voices you’re hearing on the broadcast?

On Fox, Joe Davis is on the play-by-play, John Smoltz is doing color commentary, Ken Rosenthal and Tom Verducci will be dugout reporters and Tom Rinaldi will serve as the features reporter.

On Fox Deportes, fans will hear veteran play-by-play announcer Adrian Garcia-Marquez, analyst Edgar Gonzalez, along with Carlos Alvarez and Jaime Motta as reporters and analysts.

Jonathan Vilma on the call for FOX broadcast of Saints-Falcons

Here’s a quick look at the broadcasters and field reporter for the New Orleans Saints’ Week 4 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. Jonathan Vilma is on the call:

The New Orleans Saints will get one of their own on the call for their Week 4 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, with Jonathan Vilma as an analyst, as well as Kenny Albert on play-by-play and Megan Olivi reporting from the sidelines. So far this season he has had the following matchups as a broadcaster:

  • Week 1: Minnesota Vikings at New York Giants
  • Week 2: Seattle Seahawks at New England Patriots
  • Week 3: New York Giants at Cleveland Browns

The 2017 inductee into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame will travel to Atlanta, as the Saints play in a pivotal divisional matchup with the 1-2 Falcons who will look to take the second NFC South spot away in the standings.

It will be intriguing to hear how the former Saints Super Bowl champion views the team, and what his opinions on Klint Kubiak are, as well as the newfound offensive successes in the first two weeks, as well as their Week 3 loss. For a divisional matchup, it is only fitting to have someone from one of the two teams in the building on the call, as Vilma has first-hand experience of what this rivalry has been like in the past.

FOX assigns the same broadcast crew to Saints’ Week 13 game as in Week 12

FOX Sports broadcasters Joe Davis, Daryl Johnston, and Pam Oliver are being subjected to even more of Derek Carr’s offense. They’re on the call again in Week 13:

FOX Sports broadcasters Joe Davis, Daryl Johnston, and Pam Oliver are being subjected to even more of Derek Carr’s offense. They’re on the call again for Week 13’s New Orleans Saints game after hosting last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

It wasn’t an easy game to watch, full of disappointing Saints drives ending without touchdowns and injuries to key players. Hopefully their next assignment will be more entertaining. The Detroit Lions (8-3) will visit the Saints (5-6) on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Caesars Superdome with kickoff scheduled for Noon CT/1 p.m. ET. It’ll be interesting to see how Davis, Johnson, and Oliver’s perspectives are influenced by having covered the Saints so recently.

The Saints’ season will not be over with a loss, but they can’t afford to drop many more games. With the wild card race shaping up without them, New Orleans’ playoff hopes rest on winning the NFC South, and an upset against Detroit would go a long way to building confidence in their ability to go the distance. Carr must play at a higher level and guide the offense into the end zone after coming up short on five trips into the red zone a week ago.

Announcers set for Saints vs. Titans Week 1 game

The New Orleans Saints will look to start their season with a win against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. CBS Sports has set the lineup for announcers:

The New Orleans Saints will look to start their season with a win against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Their Week 1 game will air on CBS at Noon CT live from the Caesars Superdome — check here for the game’s broadcast map of local coverage.

But who’s on the call? The television broadcast crew will include Chris Lewis (play-by-play), Jason McCourty (analyst), as well as Amanda Guerra and Ross Tucker (sideline reporters).

Interestingly, McCourty is a former Titans player — despite having won a Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots in 2018, he spent the majority of his playing career in Tennessee. Tucker is also a former player, and he hasn’t liked what he’s seen over the summer from the Titans offensive line. Maybe that’s a vulnerability the Saints defense can expose.

Super Bowl XLIV champion Roman Harper to announce Saints Round 2 pick

Super Bowl XLIV champion Roman Harper will announce the New Orleans Saints second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft on Friday night from Kansas City:

A host of former NFL stars will be announcing their old teams’ picks in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft on Friday night, with two-time Pro Bowl safety Roman Harper welcoming the newest member of the black and gold. Who better to embrace them than a Super Bowl XLIV champion?

Harper was a second-round pick himself, having been selected at No. 43 overall out of Alabama back in 2006. He went on to start 152 of the 169 games he played in the NFL, including the playoffs, which is the kind of career any rookie should aspire to. Maybe he’ll get lucky and call out someone from his alma mater like Crimson Tide safety Brian Branch. The Saints are scheduled to make their pick at No. 40 overall.

Another former Saints standout will be on hand for the night’s proceedings: left tackle Terron Armstead, who will be announcing his newest Miami Dolphins teammate. Armstead earned his fourth Pro Bowl nod last season after signing with Miami in free agency, having achieved an impressive career in his own right as a third-round pick.

Round 2 of the 2023 draft will kick off at 6 p.m. CT, with broadcasts shown nationally on ABC, ESPN, and NFL Network.

Notre Dame football’s small part in Vin Scully’s path to Dodgers broadcast booth

How a Notre Dame-North Carolina football game led to Vin Scully’s quick rise with the Dodgers.

The term GOAT gets thrown around way too liberally these days.  There are some all-time greats and some really goods that deserve praise but it feels as if calling someone the “Greatest of All-Time” has lost a bit of the impact it used to.

That’s not the case for Vin Scully.

And it will never not be the case.

Scully became the legendary voice of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers for whom he broadcast games for an astonishing 67 years.  His iconic calls included Kirk Gibson’s walk-off home run in the 1988 World Series, Hank Aaron’s record setting 715th career home run, and even “The Catch” in the 1981 NFC Championship game.

Those were all incredible and are worthy of celebration but what made Scully special was his ability to tell stories.  Sure, he had them of the greatest players the game ever saw and he saw plenty of those guys up close, but his stories of the other players who weren’t All-Star regulars or megastars are what I always enjoyed most about him.  Check out below to hear just a few of his less iconic but equally as great of calls over the years.

Earlier today our colleague Matt Zemek at Trojans Wire shared a story of how a college football game at Fenway Park actually served as Scully’s major breakthrough in terms of broadcasting.

From the piece Zemek found on Boston.com:

It was November 12, 1949, and Scully was just a 21-year-old looking to break into broadcasting after graduating from Fordham University. A special circumstance had helped him land the job of calling the game at Fenway Park between 6-0 Boston University and 5-1 Maryland.

It was legendary Detroit Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell (who was once fired by Bo Schembechler – good going there) was reassigned to call the Notre Dame-North Carolina game that day which led to the famed Red Barber reaching out to Scully and getting him to announce the Boston University vs. Maryland game at Fenway.  Notre Dame routed the Tar Heels 42-6 that day which meant Scully’s game received the majority of CBS’ attention as it was competitive.

Shortly after Scully joined the Dodgers broadcast booth and the rest is history.

I’m not silly enough to think Vin wouldn’t have made it one day if not for calling that Boston U.-Maryland game but he wouldn’t have gotten his start quite as quickly.

From a baseball fan that was blessed to be able to fall asleep to Dodgers games on MLB.tv for the better part of the last 15 years, RIP Vin.  Thank you for the incredible memories and helping spread your love for baseball with a world that will never hear from a finer broadcaster.
