Report: Buffalo Bills to sign Andy Isabella

Andy Isabella is coming to the #Bills:

The Buffalo Bills have added another potential weapon for quarterback Josh Allen.

After working out for the team on Friday, Isabella is reportedly going to sign in Buffalo according to the Score:

Isabella, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals. He was most recently with the Baltimore Ravens. He was released by the Ravens on Tuesday.

Isabella’s best season came in 2020. He put up 21 catches for 224 yards with two touchdowns. Isabella has failed to make a huge impact at the NFL level, only hauling in 33 catches in 41 career games played. Originally Isabella caught the attention of teams at the NFL combine when he ran a 4.31 40-yard dash time.

In addition to his receiving, Isabella has returned eight kicks in his career.

A 5-foot-9 wideout, Isabella profiles as a potential slot receiver in Buffalo. Currently the Bills have the likes of Khalil Shakir and Deonte Harty as the most-likely candidates to see snaps there in 2023. Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis would remain the Bills’ starting wideouts on the outside.

The team has not yet officially announced the signing.

Ravens make four roster moves ahead of Wild Card matchup vs. Bengals

The Ravens made four roster moves in preparation for Sunday’s Wild Card matchup in Cincinnati with the Bengals

The Baltimore Ravens are taking on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night in an AFC Wild Card showdown.  The Ravens and Bengals split the season series by winning one game each, with both teams coming out victorious at home.  Since the 2021 season, this matchup has been intense, starting to have the feel of a rivalry or sorts.

In preparation for the game, the Ravens made a four roster moves in signing defensive back Ar’Darius Washington from the practice squad to the active roster while moving wide receiver Tylan Wallace to injured reserve. They also elevated wide receivers Andy Isabella and Binjimen Victor from the practice squad.

The Ravens will need all the healthy bodies they can get to contain the high powered Bengals offense. The team needs depth at the receiver position and for special teams, and with Wallace being a big part of that unit, the team could use Isabella and Victor in his place.

Ravens make multiple roster moves ahead of Week 17 vs. Steelers

The Ravens have made multiple roster moves prior to Week 17

The Baltimore Ravens take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night in Week 17.  Quarterback Tyler Huntley will be starting in place of Lamar Jackson for the fourth-straight week.  The Ravens look to improve to 11-5 on the season, and have a chance to eliminate the Steelers from playoff contention and hand Mike Tomlin the first losing season of his coaching career.

The Ravens have made some roster moves prior to the game.  Undrafted free agent quarterback Anthony Brown has been signed to the active roster, while other moves include elevating wide receiver Andy Isabella and defensive tackle Rayshad Nichols from the practice squad to the active roster for the contest.

The elevation of Nichols could mean that defensive lineman Calais Campbell might be inactive for Sunday night.  The defense needs to be able to contain the Steelers running game without Campbell, so Nichols could be the player that makes an impact.  With a win, the Ravens have a chance to win the AFC North division title in Week 18.

Former Cardinals WR Andy Isabella signing with Ravens’ practice squad

The Cardinals and 2019 second-round pick Andy Isabella cut ties Wednesday. Isabella will sign with the Ravens. joining their practice squad.

The Arizona Cardinals selected WR Andy Isabella in the second round of the 2019 draft. He was a favorite of Kliff Kingsbury and was meant to take over the long-term slot position role.

That never worked out, as Isabella was unable to earn consistent playing time during his time with the Cardinals. Isabella was released by the Cardinals on Wednesday to make room for center Billy Price on the active roster.

Isabella went unclaimed on waivers but intends to sign with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He will be joining a Ravens wide receiver room with less competition than the Cardinals, so perhaps he finds a long-term home with them.

The former second-round pick ended his Cardinals career with 33 receptions for 447 yards and three touchdown receptions, the most notable coming in his rookie year. Isabella scored an 88-yard touchdown on Thursday Night Football against the unbeaten 49ers.

It was a disappointing outcome with the Cardinals, particularly given the other wide receivers taken outside of the first round in that draft. The most infamous of course, is Seahawks WR DK Metcalf being selected after Isabella.

Cardinals sign OL Billy Price, cut WR Andy Isabella

The Cardinals say goodbye to the former 2019 second-round pick to add offensive line depth.

The Arizona Cardinal announced a pair of roster moves on Tuesday for the active roster. They signed offensive lineman Billy Price off the practice squad of the Las Vegas Raiders and, to make room for him, released receiver Andy Isabella.

Price is in his fifth NFL season. He was drafted in the first round in 2018 by the Cincinnati Bengals, for whom he played for three seasons. He played for the New York Giants last season.

In four seasons, he has played in 58 games and started 34 of them, including 15 last season with the Giants.

The Cardinals gave him a look in the offseason, bringing him in for a visit back in May.

The move marks the end of Isabella’s rocky time with the Cardinals. Drafted in the second round in 2019, he has never been able to crack the playing rotation consistently and has largely been a disappointment.

In four seasons, he finishes with 33 receptions for 447 yards and three touchdowns.

What the roster moves mean

The addition of Price is interesting.

Starting left guard Justin Pugh reinjured his elbow and had to leave Sunday’s game.

If he has to miss time, it could mean that Sean Harlow would start at left guard, leaving only rookie Lecitus Smith as a backup center, something the team might not be ready to have him do.

If Hudson is injured, then Harlow would start at center.

It also seems that, with the release of Isabella, that receiver Antoine Wesley, currently on injured reserve and designated to return, is likely to return this week.

Practice squad moves

The Cardinals also announced moves on the practice squad.

They announced the signing of kicker Matt Ammendola, a move made to deal with Matt Prater’s hip injury. This move was previously reported.

To make room for Ammendola, the Cardinals released quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, as Colt McCoy has returned to practice and is designated to return from injured reserve.

Andy Isabella’s big game still doesn’t guarantee him roster spot

Andy Isabella had his best training camp and preseason. He might still end up getting released.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Andy Isabella had the best game in his career Saturday in the team’s preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans. Wrapping up a strong offseason, training camp and preseason, he had five receptions for 115 yards, including a 74-yard catch that set up a touchdown in the third quarter of the team’s 26-23 loss.

While it was negated by a holding penalty, he drew a pass interference call for the third consecutive game.

Many believe that, with Isabella’s play in the preseason, he should end up on the Cardinals’ final 53-man roster after they make final cuts.

It isn’t that simple.

Yes, he has made great strides. He finally looks like a player who can potentially produce in the NFL, beating defenders with his route running and making plays.

Add the six-game suspension for DeAndre Hopkins, and it is an easy decision, right?

The problem still remains that Isabella will be a back-of-the-end receiver.

The playing time on offense will go to Hollywood Brown, A.J. Green and Rondale Moore.

Greg Dortch is the more dynamic returner and can play in the slot. Antoine Wesley has length and can do some on special teams.

Isabella would be the sixth receiver on the roster. He isn’t going to play on offense and isn’t going to be the team’s returner.

If the Cardinals are keeping six receivers, that last guy has to be a core special teams player, like Trent Sherfield was when he was here.

Kliff Kingsbury has praised undrafted rookie receiver JaVonta Payton for his work on special teams.

Isabella finally got to play a full preseason for the first time. He injured his knee as a rookie. There was no preseason in 2020. He caught COVID in 2021.

He has shown he has value in the league. The problem is he doesn’t have much for the Cardinals now.

The best option for him and the team would be for him to be traded to a team that wants him. The Cardinals get some compensation and Isabella gets an opportunity.

It is certainly possible he could make the 53-man roster initially, but with what we know about the Cardinals and roster building, he isn’t a rookie they don’t want to lose as he is in the final year of his contract. He isn’t a special teams ace.

Don’t be surprised if he is not on the final roster when Tuesday afternoon rolls around.

Watch Andy Isabella’s 74-yard catch and run!

Isabella made a statement in his final preseason game to make the roster again.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Andy Isabella is making a statement in the team’s final preseason game. Battling to make the final roster, he is having the game of his life.

The Cardinals took a 17-16 lead in the third quarter and Isabella set up the touchdown to take the lead.

He took a second-down pass and went 74 yards, dodging would-be tacklers and outrunning almost everyone, getting tackled at the two-yard line.

At that point in the game, he had five catches for 115 yards, making his best case to make the team again.
