‘Wild’ trade idea sends Khris Middleton the Warriors

The ‘wild’ trade proposal would send Khris Middleton to the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors have been re-tooling their roster this summer. With Klay Thompson leaving for the Dallas Mavericks, the front office has added Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson to help round out the rotation and provide depth at multiple positions. However, the Warriors did miss out on Lauri Markkanen, who was rumored to be their top trade target.

As such, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz has posited a ‘wild’ trade idea to give the Warriors some additional shooting in the front court, which would inevitably provide some additional floor spacing for Steph Curry in the upcoming season. The trade looks like this:

Warriors get: Khris Middleton

Milwaukee Bucks get: Jerami Grant

Portland Trail Blazers get: Moses Moody and Andrew Wiggins

“The Warriors are essentially swapping Andrew Wiggins for Middleton here, as Moody may not even play much this upcoming season with the additions of Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton combined with Brandin Podziemski entering the starting lineup full-time,” Swartz reasoned. “Middleton’s shooting, passing and overall versatility make him a strong fit in Golden State, and the Warriors should be thrilled to get off Wiggins’ contract.”

On paper, adding Middleton makes a lot of sense for Golden State. He would plug multiple gaps, provide high-level scoring and playmaking along with being an above-average defender. However, Middleton has struggled with health in recent seasons, has shown signs of age-related decline and is coming off a summer where he’s been recovering from surgery.

As such, the Warriors would be wise to swerve this hypothetical trade and look elsewhere. Nevertheless, Swartz is right about one thing: any major trade Golden State makes will likely include Wiggins.

Is Andrew Wiggins due a bounce-back year for the Warriors?

Can Andrew Wiggins re-discover the level of play that saw him emerge as a key piece to the Golden State Warriors 2022 championship?

The past two seasons have been far from ideal for Andrew Wiggins. The veteran forward has been unable to replicate the level of play that saw him become a major piece of the Golden State Warriors championship run in 2022. Wiggins has struggled for consistency since winning his first ring and was floated as a potential trade chip at the Feb. 8 trade deadline last season.

At his best, Wiggins is among the premier three-and-d forwards in the NBA. He’s capable of shutting down the opposing team’s best player while also providing reliable perimeter scoring and athletic finishing in the lane. Steve Kerr’s team is at its best when Wiggins is playing near his maximum level.

In a recent video by the “Athletic Alchemy” YouTube channel, the hosts discuss whether Wiggins is due to bounce back from his two tough years with a strong performance in the 2024-25 season. The veteran forward could be playing for his future in the Bay Area.

Proposed trade sends Caris LeVert to the Warriors

The proposed trade would send Andrew Wiggins back to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Andrew Wiggins continues to be floated as a potential trade chip for the Golden State Warriors. He has been underwhelming for the past two seasons, and could potentially benefit from a change of scenery. As such, his name is being consistently used in mock trade proposals, to give Warriors fans an idea on the potential return a trade could yield.

In the latest mock trade from Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, Caris LeVert is the talent heading back to the Bay Area in return for Wiggins. Of course, the Cleveland Cavaliers would also part with some draft capital to get the deal over the line.

“It took a decade, but Andrew Wiggins could finally get to play for the team that drafted him,” Hughes wrote, reasoning why the Cavaliers would make the trade. “This full-circle deal makes sense for the Cavs whether they extend Donovan Mitchell or not. And it looks even better if, somewhat improbably, all four of Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen are still on the team through the summer.”

Cleveland originally drafted Wiggins with the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft before immediately trading him to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the Kevin Love trade.

LeVert would give the Warriors another ball-handler and three-level scorer. He would also thrive in Steve Kerr’s motion-based offense. However, Golden State will likely feel they can get a better return for Wiggins, making this mock trade unlikely to come to fruition.

Proposed trade sends Dejounte Murray to Warriors

The proposed trade would see the Golden State Warriors swap Andrew Wiggins for Dejounte Murray.

The Golden State Warriors are expected to upgrade their roster this summer. Andrew Wiggins is seen as a potential trade chip. Chris Paul’s future remains a mystery, and Klay Thompson’s impending free agency is still a major talking point. Nevertheless, Mike Dunleavy Jr. has multiple avenues he can explore while trying to improve the current rotation.

In a recent article, Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes proposed a trade that would see Dejounte Murray head to the Warriors with Wiggins and future draft assets heading to the Atlanta Hawks. Murray would drastically improve the Warrior’s perimeter defense and give the roster another on-ball rim threat due to his ability to penetrate off the dribble and get downhill.

“Golden State onboards a player in Murray who could offset the possible departures of both Klay Thompson and Chris Paul while shielding Stephen Curry from the toughest defensive matchups,” Hughes reasoned. “He’d also allow the Dubs to sell the idea that they’re still intent on contending without nuking the young core by trading Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski or anyone else who might play a big role on the post-Curry version of the team.”

Wiggins hasn’t been at his best over the last two seasons. As such, it would make sense for the Warriors to try and cash in on him via trade. Murray would add defense, playmaking and reliable interior scoring. He has also proven he can exist next to a sharpshooting guard, having spent the past two seasons playing next to Trae Young.

The Warriors have been linked with acquiring Murray. Hughes trade package would be logical for both sides. Still, there’s no telling whether it would be enough to get a deal over the line.

Andrew Wiggins continues to be floated in trade rumors

Andrew Wiggins is still being considered as a logical trade candidate for the Golden State Warriors.

Andrew Wiggins continues to be viewed as a potential trade chip for the Golden State Warriors. The veteran forward has struggled for the past two seasons. He has failed to recapture the production that saw him emerge as an integral piece of Golden State’s 2022 championship team. As such, Wiggins is viewed as a logical trade candidate.

According to Logan Murdoch of The Ringer, Golden State could “aggressively pursue” potential trade packages for the former first overall draft pick. Wiggins has three years remaining on his current $109 million contract, which would guarantee another team multiple years of salary control.

“League sources believe Andrew Wiggins, who struggled to find a consistent role last season, will be aggressively dangled in trade talks,” Murdoch reported.

Wiggins joined the Warriors in 2020. Since then, he’s played in 264 regular season games, averaging 16.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He shot 51.7% from the two-point range and 38.3% from deep. Other teams around the NBA may be interested in acquiring him due to the scoring and wing defense he provides.

Nevertheless, the Warriors will likely be strict with their asking price. They’re under no pressure to trade Wiggins. A deal must make sense for the franchise to consider signing off on the move. Still, if trading Wiggins helps ease the cap constraints and brings in fresh blood, it’s a logical move for all parties involved.

We’re only in the very early stages of the offseason. A trade can happen at any time. As such, Wiggins may find his name hitting the news cycle with a renewed frequency. Only time will tell whether a trade actually comes to fruition, though.

Andrew Wiggins opens up on Warriors season of struggles

Andrew Wiggins admits that he didn’t perform to his usual standard throughout the Golden State Warriors 2023-24 season.

The Golden State Warriors didn’t have the season they had hoped for. Injuries, suspensions and multiple players failing to reach their usual level all consigned Steve Kerr’s team to a year of inconsistent production on both ends of the court. Klay Thompson’s impending free agency also hung over the franchise.

During a recent interview with Sportsnet, Andrew Wiggins shared his thoughts on what went wrong for the Warriors this season. He praised the team’s improved production in 2024. Wiggins also admitted that his own performances were below the standards he usually sets for himself.

“We were up and down a little bit this season,” Wiggins said. “That can do it. I feel like we were never really in a great rhythm. I didn’t start the season off well. I didn’t think I had a good start to the first half of the season. I started picking it up at the end. If we played how we did that second half of the season – from January on – at the beginning, I feel like it would have been a totally different season.”

Wiggins played in 71 games for Golden State this season. He averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on 45.3% shooting from the field and 35.8% shooting from 3-point range. However, his defense was far from the level he displayed as he helped bring a banner to the Bay Area in 2022.

Following a tough year for the Warriors, Wiggins could find himself floated on the trade market as Golden State looks to re-tool their roster. As such, it’s not guaranteed that he will begin next season in the Bay Area. However, if he does remain with the Warriors, Kerr will need Wiggins to perform at a much higher level if his roster hopes to make it back into the playoffs in 2025.

Andrew Wiggins accepts this season wasn’t his best

Andrew Wiggins season with the Golden State Warriors fell short of expectations.

Andrew Wiggins struggled throughout the 2023-24 season. He rarely reached the level we saw from him during the Golden State Warriors‘ run to the 2022 NBA championship. However, during the second half of the season, Wiggins began to improve and found some much-needed consistency down the stretch.

When speaking to the media on Wednesday (April 17), Wiggins accepted that he has underperformed this year. He also took a holistic view to his upward trajectory as the year wore on while also praising the Warriors’ improvements as a unit during their run after the All-Star break.

“My season was not good, not great,” Wiggins said. “I feel like I started picking up in the second half of the season. But the first half wasn’t too good. Team-wise, I feel like we were really good in the second half of the season; we were figuring things out. It’s really unfortunate it had to end this way. I feel like our defense started clicking.”

At his best, Wiggins is one of the most impactful three-and-D wings in the NBA. He’s capable of shutting down some of the most prominent offensive players in the league. When he plays at that level, the Warriors are a serious threat to any opponent.

Golden State will need the 2022 version of Wiggins next season. They will not want to miss the playoffs for a second straight season. He can be a serious factor in their bid for another title run. The front office will likely be hoping this season’s failures act as a catalyst for Wiggins to get back to his best, otherwise, he could end up as a potential trade chip.

Steph Curry shares appreciation for Andrew Wiggins

Steph Curry appreciates the difficult role Andrew Wiggins plays for the Golden State Warriors

Andrew Wiggins has endured a difficult season for the Golden State Warriors. He’s struggled to reach his usual production level and has bounced in and out of the rotation as a result. Yet, as the season neared its conclusion, Wiggins began to emerge as the wing defender the Warriors needed.

When speaking to the media on Monday (April 15), Steph Curry praised Wiggins and what he brings to the table for Golden State. He noted how the explosive wing has a difficult role, as he is usually tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player.

“What he has to do is not easy,” Curry said. “I think that’s something people miss, he has to guard the best perimeter guy and we want him to be aggressive offensively as well…he understands how important it is to reach our full potential as a team & you’ve seen that over the last month or so.”

The Warriors face a difficult road to the playoffs. They’re the 10th seed in the Western Conference. That means a win-or-go-home game against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday (April 16), with the winner facing the loser of the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans. Should the Warriors successfully navigate both of those games, a seven-game series against the Oklahoma City Thunder will await them.

If Wiggins can emerge as the same three-and-d wing that helped the Warriors secure the 2022 NBA championship, he will give Golden State an excellent chance of embarking on an unlikely run toward the playoffs. He’s shown he’s capable of being one of the best defenders in the NBA; now the Warriors need him to remind everybody watching at home.

Andrew Wiggins reiterates Steph Curry’s importance to the Warriors

Andrew Wiggins praised Steph Curry’s importance to the Golden State Warriors after his tough shooting night against the Dallas Mavericks.

Steph Curry had an uncharacteristically low-scoring night as the Golden State Warriors overcame a stern test from the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. The veteran superstar ended the night with 13 points on 5-of-18 shooting from the field, which was good for a 27.8 field goal percentage. However, he did find other ways of contributing, securing seven rebounds and seven assists.

Furthermore, Curry’s off-ball movement and scoring gravity were also major factors in the Warriors’ spacing throughout the contest. When speaking to the media following the game, Andrew Wiggins praised Curry’s impact, noting that the superstar guard was still the most important player in the team’s rotation, even on difficult scoring nights.

“Even when he’s not scoring the ball a lot or shots aren’t going in, he’s still the most dangerous person on the court,” Wiggins said. “He attacks so much attention. He could miss 100 shots, and you still gotta play him and put two people on him because he’s that good and that dangerous.”

Wiggins enjoyed a strong showing against the Mavericks. In 32 minutes of playing time, he scored 23 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists, and got a steal and a block. He shot 50% from the field and 60% from 3-point range.

Golden State now hopes Wiggins can sustain that level of performance even when Curry is performing at his usual level. At his best, Wiggins is one of the most impactful three-and-D wings in the NBA. Golden State needs all of its players at their best if it wants a deep run during the postseason.

Steve Kerr praises Andrew Wiggins big fourth quarter vs. Magic

Steve Kerr was impressed with Andrew Wiggins performance during the Golden State Warriors win over the Orlando Magic.

Andrew Wiggins played a huge role in the Golden State Warriors securing a win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

The veteran forward scored 13 points and secured three rebounds while playing the entire quarter to help his team secure a much-needed win. The Warriors were short-handed following Draymond Green‘s ejection in the opening minutes of the game.

Head coach Steve Kerr praised Wiggins ‘ contributions when speaking to the media as part of his postgame press conference, noting his fourth-quarter production. Wiggins has been inconsistent this season, which made his dominant showing a little more enjoyable for both the fan base and the coaching staff.

“Wiggs was fantastic,” Kerr said. “Just stepped up and made one big play after another, on both ends. He had the big block near the end on Wagner. Made big shots. Got to the line. Attacked. Yeah, Wiggs was fantastic.”

When at his best, Wiggins is one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. He played a pivotal role in the Warriors’ run to the 2022 championship due to his ability to consistently guard the opposing team’s best player. Nevertheless, he’s also a talented offensive player, as he showed against Orlando.

If Wiggins can rediscover the level of play he showed during the 2022 playoffs, the Warriors will be a tough team to beat once the play-in tournament begins. Golden State will likely need to win two consecutive games to qualify for the playoffs. Wiggins could be a swing factor in those contests.
