Dayo Odeyingbo among Colts to watch vs. Titans in Week 8

Among the Colts to watch in Week 8 against the Titans is rookie Dayo Odeyingbo.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-4) are entering the midpoint of the 2021 season with a divisional bout on tap against the Tennessee Titans (5-2) in Week 8 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

While the Titans have a two-game lead on the Colts for the division and essentially a three-game lead given that they currently hold the tiebreaker after their Week 3 win, this is a huge matchup for both teams.

Here are five Colts to watch in the Week 8 matchup against the Titans:

Stock up, Stock down from Colts’ 30-18 win over 49ers

Taking stock from the Colts’ 30-18 win over the 49ers in Week 7.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-4) gutted out a big win over the San Francisco 49ers (2-4) despite playing through what was dubbed a “bomb cyclone,” which was essentially inclement weather consisting of heavy rain and strong winds.

The Colts got the ground game going against the 49ers and were able to hit some explosive plays in the passing game despite the weather. Defensively, the Colts weren’t all that strong against the run but were extremely opportunistic when it came to turnovers.

Here is the stock report from the Week 7 win in prime-time:

Studs and duds from Colts’ 30-18 win over 49ers

Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman Jr lead the studs and duds from the Colts’ 30-18 win over 49ers.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-4) survived the torrential downpour and gale-force winds to come out with a 30-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers (2-4) on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium.

Due to the weather conditions, the game was largely flipped to a run-heavy script for both teams. The winds kept both quarterbacks from airing the ball out as much as they would have liked even though the Colts took more chances downfield than the Niners did.

Let’s take a look at the studs and duds from the Week 7 win in prime time:

Colts rule out 5 players vs. Texans in Week 6

The Colts ruled out 5 players for the Week 6 matchup with the Houston Texans.

The Indianapolis Colts (1-4) ruled out five players on Friday ahead of the Week 6 matchup with the Houston Texans (1-4) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The five players ruled out include right tackle Braden Smith (foot), defensive end Kemoko Turay (groin), safety Andrew Sendejo (concussion), kicker Rodrigo Blankenship (hip) and running back Jordan Wilkins (non-football illness).

None of these players were able to log a practice in any capacity this week so it isn’t all that surprising that they have been ruled out.

The biggest name here is Smith, who continues to progress slowly from a foot injury he suffered in Week 1. Smith has yet to practice since initially suffering other injury.

The final injury report will be released later on Friday with the remaining designations.

Colts injury updates: A pair of DBs in concussion protocol

Here are the latest injury updates for the Colts heading into Week 6.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich provided some updates on injuries when meeting with the media Tuesday following the Week 5 loss against the Baltimore Ravens.

The biggest concern entering Week 6 will be the secondary as a pair of defensive backs were placed into the concussion protocol.

Here are the injury updates for the Colts as they kick off preparation for Week 6:

Studs and duds from Colts’ 31-25 loss to Ravens

Studs and duds from the Colts’ 31-25 loss to the Ravens.

The Indianapolis Colts (1-4) nearly pulled off a miraculous upset on the road against the Baltimore Ravens (4-1) on Monday night but a late, fourth-quarter collapse resulted in a 31-25 loss in overtime.

It was pure domination by the Colts for the first three quarters as they took a 25-9 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the game. From that point on, it was the Lamar Jackson show.

The prime-time loss was a mixed bag. There were bright spots in the loss. However, they will be overshadowed by the dud performances of the night.

Here are the studs and duds from the 31-25 loss in Week 5:

6 Colts to watch vs. Dolphins in Week 4

Keep an eye on these Colts in the Week 4 matchup with the Dolphins.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-3) are one of the five winless teams across the league and will be looking to end that streak when they visit the Miami Dolphins (1-2) at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

The Week 4 matchup is a big one for both teams. The Colts are looking to avoid an 0-4 start for the first time since 2011 and only the second time since Peyton Manning’s rookie season in 1998. The Dolphins are coming off of a tough overtime loss against the Las Vegas Raiders.

As the Colts play with their backs against the wall, here are six players to watch in the Week 4 matchup:

Two former Browns defensive starters get signed on Tuesday

Two starters from the 2020 Browns found new homes on Tuesday of Week 2 of the NFL season:

The Cleveland Browns spent all offseason looking to upgrade their defense after a difficult performance for most of the 2020 season. General manager Andrew Berry was active in free agency as well as the NFL draft to make sure the team was in a better position on the defensive side of the ball.

The offseason included the additions of Jadeveon Clowney, Takk McKinley, Anthony Walker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Troy Hill, Greg Newsome II and John Johnson III, among others.

With those additions came a few subtractions. Some ended up with other teams like Tavierre Thomas, Terrance Mitchell, Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson. Others ended up on the Browns practice squad including players like Porter Gustin.

At the end of Week 1, there were still a former Browns out there in free agency. On Tuesday of Week 2, two former defensive starters found new homes.

Colts sign S Andrew Sendejo

Colts signed S Andrew Sendejo and waived CB Chris Wilcox on Tuesday.

The Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday they signed veteran free agent safety Andrew Sendejo. To make room on the roster, the team waived cornerback Chris Wilcox. The team has also opened up a spot on the practice squad after releasing safety Sean Davis.

Sendejo was one of seven players to attend a tryout for the Colts on Monday, which included four other safeties.

Sendejo went undrafted out of Rice in 2010 but has since had quite the journeyman career in the NFL after a brief stint with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.

Sendejo has 75 career starts across 124 total games played. The teams that Sendejo has been a part of include the New Orleans Saints (2010), the Dallas Cowboys (2010), the New York Jets (2011), the Minnesota Vikings (2011-2019), the Philadelphia Eagles (2019), and the Cleveland Browns (2020).

In those 124 games played, Sendejo has compiled 446 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, two sacks, 23 passes defended, nine interceptions, two forced fumbles with three recoveries as well.

Sendejo will look to be a veteran voice of experience in a very young secondary room for the Colts coming off a rough start to its 2021 season. The team seems keen on adding experience to its depth since this off-season and this is yet another signing that enforces that point.

Colts held tryout for several players

Colts held a tryout for several players on Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for several players on Monday, per the league’s transaction wire.

In total, the Colts had seven free agents at the tryout while five of them were safeties and the other two were centers. Here’s a look at the players who attended the tryout on Monday:

  • C Cohl Cabral
  • C Drake Jackson
  • S Delano Hill
  • S Josh Jones
  • S Lucas Jordan
  • S Will Parks
  • S Andrew Sendejo

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Colts are working out safeties. They are currently thin at the position with only three players on the active roster in Julian Blackmon, Khari Willis and George Odum.

The elevated veteran Sean Davis from the practice squad for game day, but he has since been returned to the practice squad.

The Colts may also be keeping tabs on the center position given Danny Pinter’s foot injury, which kept him out of the season-opener. They had to elevate Joey Hunt from the practice squad to be the backup to Ryan Kelly.
