Pacers’ Andrew Nembhard to sign record contract as second-round pick

The 31st pick averaged 6.6 points, five assists and four rebounds with the Pacers in summer league.

Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard will reportedly sign a four-year, $8.6 million rookie contract, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Nembhard, the 31st pick in the NBA draft, will receive $6.4 million in guarantees over the first three years of the contract, the most ever for a college player selected in the second round. The guaranteed money is also worth more than picks 18-30 in the first round.

The 22-year-old was named to the All-WCC first team last season at Gonzaga after averaging 11.8 points, 5.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals. He finished the season ranked 15th in the country in assists per game and seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.97).

Nembhard wrapped up a solid showing with the Pacers in the Las Vegas Summer League. In five games, he averaged 6.6 points, five assists and four rebounds on 35.1% shooting from the field. He had his best game on July 10 with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

With the Pacers building toward the future now, the team certainly has high hopes for Nembhard after signing him to a record contract for a second-rounder. He projects to bring quite a bit to the next level and the team is likely eager to see him take the court.

Pritchard conceded, that the rebuild is …

Pritchard conceded, that the rebuild is going to take some time, and he’s right. There are no shortcuts, especially for a small-market franchise that isn’t a destination for big-time free agents. The Pacers aren’t asking anybody to be patient through some kind of midwestern version of The Process, but last year’s trade for Tyrese Haliburton and this week’s draft of Mathurin, Nembhard and Brown, are a hopeful beginning. “One of the things I’m absolutely convinced of, these three young men will be a part of this organization for a long time,” Pritchard said. “We wanted to get more athletic, more dynamic and bring some intelligence. All three demonstrated that athleticism and drive to win. The one common denominator is, they all love to play.”

Monte Morris on the block?

With Denver having acquired the No. 30 pick, league sources expect the Nuggets will target a point guard such as Gonzaga ball-handler Andrew Nembhard. Denver has engaged various teams in trade conversations regarding Monte Morris, the sturdy reserve point guard who filled in as its starter with Jamal Murray sidelined for the season. Some rival executives were prepared for Morris to be replaced by Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic, whose rights are held by OKC, as part of the Green trade. Micic, 28, led Turkish club Anadolu Efes to the 2020-21 EuroLeague title while winning the EuroLeague MVP and has garnered trade interest from several playoff teams, such as Milwaukee and Chicago, sources said.

More on this storyline

Dyson Daniels is unlikely to be on the board at No. 16, but if the Hawks do trade up to potentially No. 7 in a deal with Portland (and discussions have occurred, according to sources), he should be Atlanta’s pick if he’s available. The Hawks need more perimeter defenders, and he’s arguably the best one in the draft. Additionally, Daniels’ ability to be a playmaker with a point guard’s handle should be intriguing to Atlanta. -via The Athletic / June 14, 2022
The Knicks have also been linked to Brogdon in recent days by league personnel. New York is known to have interest in trading up from the No. 11 pick, with a perceived target of Purdue combo guard Jaden Ivey. But if New York doesn’t jump up the lottery order—league executives don’t forecast such a deal—and determines it is out of the running for free agent-to-be Jalen Brunson, Brogdon has been mentioned as one of several potential backup options for the Knicks to plug their hole at starting point guard. -via Bleacher Report / June 14, 2022
Meanwhile, the Bulls remain invested in finding the optimal frontcourt lynchpin to pair with LaVine and DeRozan. Chicago continues to explore the trade market for two-time All-Star center Nikola Vucevic, sources said. It has registered interest in Rudy Gobert, but the Bulls do not appear willing to include Patrick Williams alongside Vucevic in a trade package for Gobert, sources told B/R. -via Bleacher Report / June 14, 2022

Rumor: Nuggets’ potential target with newly-acquired 30th pick emerges

After acquiring the 30th pick in the NBA draft, a potential target for the Nuggets has reportedly emerged.

After acquiring the 30th pick in the NBA draft from the Oklahoma City Thunder, a potential target for the Denver Nuggets has reportedly emerged on June 23.

The Nuggets agreed to send forward JaMychal Green and a protected 2027 first-round pick to the Thunder as part of the trade. Green, who could have become a free agent this summer, is expected to opt into his $8.2 million player option.

Denver will also pick up two future second-round picks in the deal.

With a second first-rounder now available, in addition to their own 21st pick, the Nuggets are reportedly considering taking a point guard at 30, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

The Nuggets have also been rumored into wanting to trade up and could now use their two picks to do so. However, if new president Calvin Booth and the team opt to standpat, the group has apparently zeroed in on a potential target to consider.

Denver has hosted several first-round prospects for workouts, including Santa Clara guard Jalen Williams, Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell and Michigan forward Caleb Houstan among others, with more likely to come before next week.

With two first-round picks now, the Nuggets could be a team to watch in the coming days. They figure to be very active in trade discussions as it will be interesting to see what they ultimately do.
