Packers sign former Giants WR/TE Andre Miller

The Packers released OL Chuck Filiaga and TE Camren McDonald and signed OL Cole Schneider and TE Andre Miller on Tuesday.

In addition to offensive lineman Cole Schneider, the Green Bay Packers also signed former New York Giants receiver/tight end Andre Miller, per Tom Silverstein of PackersNews.com.

The Packers had two roster spots open as a result of releasing rookies Chuck Filiaga and Camren McDonald.

Miller, a collegiate receiver, went undrafted out of Maine in 2022. The Giants converted him to tight end, but an arm injury ended his first season. He was put back on injured reserve in June and was waived with an injury settlement last week.

Miller was 6-2 and 224 pounds coming out of Maine. He posted an unofficial 9.60 Relative Athletic Score (RAS) at his pro day before the 2022 draft.

Miller will wear No. 16 for the Packers, suggesting he will play wide receiver. He was on the practice field on Tuesday.

The New York Giants have signed defensive lineman Kobe Smith. In a corresponding move, tight end/wide receiver Dre Miller was waived/injured.

Smith, 24, went undrafted in 2020 out of South Carolina, has never played in an NFL regular season game and has bounced around on the practice squads of several teams: Tennessee, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Atlanta. He was most recently on the roster of the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL.

Smith (6’2″, 312) will vie for a backup spot on the interior of the Giants’ defensive line which is deeper than it has been in recent years with the addition of free agent veterans A’Shawn Robinson and Rakeem Nunez-Roches and rookie Jordan Riley.

The line naturally starts with Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence in the middle, flanked by veteran Leonard Williams. D.J. Davidson also returns after missing a good portion of his rookie year to injury.

Miller was expendable after the Giants beefed up their tight end and wide receiver rooms this offseason with the acquisitions of Darren Waller and Tommy Sweeney and with Daniel Bellinger and Lawrence Cager returning.

If Miller clears waivers, he will revert to the team’s injured reserve list.

Giants’ Jalin Hyatt, Adoree’ Jackson fielded punts on Day 1 of OTAs

On their first day of organized team activities (OTAs), the New York Giants had CB Adoree’ Jackson and WR Jalin Hyatt fielding punts.

The New York Giants opened organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday in East Rutherford, New Jersey and while no members of the media were permitted to attend, the team did share reports, video highlights and photos.

Among the notes was a tidbit that may bother some Giants fans.

Less than a year removed from Adoree’ Jackson suffering a sprained MCL on a return against the Detroit Lions, he was back fielding punts. This time, he was joined by rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt and a slew of others.

A number of different players caught punts early in practice: Adoree’ Jackson, Darnay Holmes, Jamison Crowder, Jalin Hyatt, Darius Slayton, and Jaydon Mickens.

It’s important to note that players are not in pads and no contact is permitted, so any potential danger is very limited. But that won’t be the concern for fans — the concern is whether or not Jackson and Hyatt will return punts in live practices or games this summer.

Below are a few highlights and some addition information worth noting.

5 Philadelphia 76ers named to most underpaid players in NBA history list

5 Philadelphia 76ers have been named to the most underpaid players in NBA history list.

How much money NBA players make is a debate that rages among fans on an everyday basis. The fan base of every team discusses how much money a certain player makes and whether he actually deserves the contract he has.

The Philadelphia 76ers are not immune to that debate.

The folks over at HoopsHype have put together a metric to measure such issues. The real value metric was developed by HoopsHype analyst Alberto De Roa. In a recent HoopsHype article, author Frank Urbina sorted the top 30 players who have not been given enough money in terms of their real value.

There are five players on the list who have Sixers ties and they are:

Giants sign TE Dre Miller to practice squad

The New York Giants have re-signed tight end Dre Miller to their practice squad.

With tight end Daniel Bellinger (eye) expected to miss several weeks following surgery, the New York Giants went out and added to the position on Tuesday.

Nearly two months after he was waived off IR with an injury settlement, the Giants have re-signed tight end Dre Miller to their practice squad.

He previously went by “Andre Miller” and is still listed as a wide receiver on the NFL’s official transaction log despite converting during the offseason.

Miller was originally signed by the Giants as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Maine. He earned that contract after an impressive showing as a rookie minicamp invite.

“It was crazy, it was surreal walking out into the facility and being a part of something so special with all the other guys,” Miller said in June. “Seeing guys that I watched play for years now, like Saquon [Barkley] and Daniel Jones. It didn’t seem real at first.

“I play Madden, and playing with them in Madden and then being around them in person is just crazy to me.”

Miller suffered a broken arm in early August, which derailed his impressive offseason. But he still drew solid praise from head coach Brian Daboll.

“He has some good quickness, and he’s got good ball skills. He was a receiver at Maine. So, to come in here and switch positions, it’s not the easiest thing,” Daboll said. “I was around a fullback by the name of James Develin, who was one of the all-time great players to be around — smart, tough, dependable — was a defensive end. Went through all of these different leagues. And he learned to play that position at a high level, but it was a work in progress.

“I’d say that’s where Andre is. He does some things well. Some of the things he’s doing for the first time ever. It’s such a different game when you’re in the backfield and looking to block guys in the box rather than outside running against the corner, whoever it may be. So, he’s studying hard. He’s got a long way to go to continue to improve, but he has a skillset that he’s done a good job with it so far.”

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Miller is likely to be a practice squad elevation on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Andre Miller recalls being upset when traded to Sixers for Allen Iverson

Andre Miller recalls being upset when he found out he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Allen Iverson.

The Philadelphia 76ers began the 2006-07 season hoping Allen Iverson and Chris Webber would lead them to contention in the Eastern Conference. The two were big names and they were Hall of Fame talents that the Sixers were hoping would lead the team to new heights.

Instead, the Sixers stumbled out of the gate, and the front office realized it was time for a change. In December of 2006, they sent Iverson and Ivan McFarlin to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Andre Miller, Joe Smith, and draft picks as they began a new era.

Miller was solid for the Sixers as he averaged 15.9 points, 6.9 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 221 games for Philadelphia and he led the team to surprising playoff appearances in 2008 and 2009.

However, he wasn’t exactly thrilled when he first heard he was traded to the Sixers before he warmed up to the idea. Miller hopped on the “Knuckleheads” podcast hosted by former NBA players Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles and Miller spoke about his time in Philadelphia.

Giants make 21 transactions; host eight tryouts and one visit

The New York Giants officially made 21 transactions on Thursday and hosted a total of nine players in East Rutherford — most on tryouts.

The New York Giants made a flurry of transactions on Thursday that impacted nearly every aspect of their team — active roster, practice squad and injured reserve.

The team also had a slew of free agents in for workouts and visits with at least one being signed, and potentially more to come.

Here’s a recap of Thursday’s moves.

Former Sixers guard Andre Miller hired by Nuggets to be G League coach

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Andre Miller will join the Denver Nuggets to be the team’s G League coach.

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Andre Miller was always a calm and steady presence on the floor for the team during his time in the City of Brotherly Love. He had ginormous shoes to fill after being acquired from the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson, but he did so admirably.

In 221 games for the Sixers, Miller averaged 15.9 points, 6.9 assists and 4.3 rebounds while playing at his own pace. He guided Philadelphia to surprising playoff appearances in 2008 and 2009, although the Sixers fell in six games in the first round both times in a similar fashion with the team up 2-1 before falling.

On Wednesday, Miller will rejoin the Nuggets to become the coach of the team’s G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold. He spent six seasons playing for Denver in his career.

Miller looks to bring his steady presence to the bench and help young players make their next step in the NBA.

Giants place Darrian Beavers on IR, trim roster to 80

The New York Giants have placed Darrian Beavers and two others on injured reserve, and moved OL Nick Gates and OL Matt Peart to Reserve/PUP.

The New York Giants officially trimmed their roster down to the league-mandated 80 men on Tuesday ahead of the 4:00 p.m. ET deadline.

Unsurprisingly, one of those moves came by way of rookie linebacker Darrian Beavers, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Beavers, who had stood out this summer and was battling for a starting spot alongside Blake Martinez, suffered a torn ACL in Sunday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In addition to Beavers being placed on IR, the Giants also moved center Nick Gates (leg) and offensive tackle Matt Peart (knee) from Active/PUP to Reserve/PUP. They will now be required to miss the first four weeks of the regular season.

Finally, the Giants placed tight ends Ricky Seals-Jones (toe) and Andre Miller (forearm) on IR.

Seals-Jones has missed the entirety of training camp with his injury only just now being revealed.

Giants rookie Andre Miller has broken arm

New York Giants rookie TE/FB Andre Miller has suffered a broken arm and will miss some time.

New York Giants rookie tight end Andre Miller is not practicing at training camp this week reportedly due to a fractured forearm.

Miller was signed this spring as a UDFA out of Maine where he played wide receiver. He had been having an eye-opening camp thus far but now appears to be headed to injured reserve.

Miller has been lining up as both a traditional tight end and a fullback, or H-back role. Head coach Brian Daboll recently had this to say about Miller:

“He has some good quickness, and he’s got good ball skills. He was a receiver at Maine. So, to come in here and switch positions, it’s not the easiest thing. I was around a fullback by the name of James Develin, who was one of the all-time great players to be around — smart, tough, dependable — was a defensive end.

There’s been no official word from the Giants on the severity of the injury or long they expect Miller to be out of action.
