Former Chiefs and Bills WR should be on the Steelers radar

The Bills have released Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

On the same day that the Buffalo Bills made a huge trade for former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper, the team also released wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to make room on the roster. MVS only had two receptions on the season in six games and found himself buried on the Bills depth chart.

But based on his history, Valdes-Scantling has plenty of talent and is certainly a guy the Pittsburgh Steelers should consider after missing out on Davante Adams. Adams was traded to the New York Jets on Tuesday marking the second premier wide receiver who slipped through the Steelers fingers.

The Steelers signed Van Jefferson in the offseason and drafted Roman Wilson in hopes of filling the void left when the team traded away Diontae Johnson. Through six games, the tandem has combined for eight catches, all courtesy of Jefferson.

In 2020, Valdes-Scantling led the league with 20.9 yards per reception. MVS had his career-best in receptions in 2022 with 42 catches while he was part of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Amari Cooper makes first comments since being traded to the Bills

Amari Cooper makes first comments since being traded to the Bills

Amari Cooper is bringing a positive attitude with him to the Buffalo Bills.

On Tuesday, the Bills (4-2) landed Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. He immediately addresses the team’s need for a No. 1 wide receiver.

In six games this season, Cooper has caught 24 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns as the Browns’ top receiver.

He will hope to continue producing in Buffalo with Josh Allen as his quarterback. Cooper has already said as much.

Speaking to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Cooper gave his first thoughts on joining the Bills. Cooper specifically said he was a “fan” of Allen’s game. In addition, Cooper added he is looking forward to turning the page.

With the Browns, Cooper was on a 1-5 team in the basement of the AFC North. Now he joins the Bills, who sit on top of the AFC East.

Anyone would be happy about that, even if it’s early on in the 2024 season.

His full comments to Anderson can be found below:

Two blockbuster in-season trades creates massive AFC East shake-up

The AFC East is as scary as it’s ever been

The AFC East division got significantly better with two monster trades sending All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets and five-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.

Adams joining the Jets reunites him with legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It’s a terrifying signing on paper with Adams teaming up with the likes of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.

Meanwhile, Cooper gives Josh Allen a new No. 1 receiving target after he lost Stefon Diggs in the offseason. That goes without mentioning the likely return of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a loaded offense of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane.

It has to be disappointing for New England Patriots fans to watch top-tier talent flock to other teams in the division.

There’s hope that rookie quarterback Drake Maye can help reignite the offense and make New England a more attractive destination for players. They’re in dire need of talent in an AFC East division undergoing an arms race in offensive firepower.

The Patriots will have their work cut out for them to find relevance once more in a division quickly passing them by.

Buffalo Bills land Amari Cooper in deal with Cleveland Browns

The Bills land Amari Cooper as a target for Josh Allen

The Bills swung a trade with the Cleveland Browns for Amari Cooper.

The details: Buffalo sent a 2025 third- and 2026 seventh-round draft pick to Cleveland for Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round selection (from Detroit).

Cooper had 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns in six games in 2024.

The Bills will be his fourth team. He previously has played for the Raiders, Cowboys, and Browns.

In his career he has 691 catches for 9.736 yards

Bills post hilarious highlight video after trading for Amari Cooper

Bills post hilarious highlight video after trading for Amari Cooper

Western New York will be excited to see the first connection between quarterback Josh Allen and new wide receiver Amari Cooper on the football field soon… that is, that first while they’re on the same team.

Cooper was acquired via trade with the Cleveland Browns. He heads to Buffalo and will be the team’s new No. 1 wide receiver.

But thanks to the Bills, we know the two have connected on a pass before.

In 2022, the Bills beat the Browns at Highmark Stadium in a 31-23 final. At one point during the game, Cooper caught a pass from Allen.

No, really.

The Bills posted a hilarious video and said the two have always had chemistry… because during that game, Allen threw away a ball while under pressure. He did so on the Browns’ sideline.

Who caught it?

Cooper… and with one hand.

Here it is, in all its glory:

Amari Cooper may have taken a shot at Deshaun Watson on his way out the door

Did Cooper take a shot at his former quarterback?

The Cleveland Browns traded wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday afternoon, but he may have taken a shot at quarterback Deshaun Watson on his way out.

Cooper is experiencing a career-worst start to his career, headlined by his league-leading nine drops through six games. Leading up to the trade, Cooper racked up just 250 yards and two touchdowns on 24 catches with the Browns.

A big part of that lack of production inevitably also falls onto the struggles of Watson, who has been among the league’s worst in various metrics this season. And Cooper may have been referencing that when he posted to his Instagram, “Move or rust” after the trade was finalized.

Rust, of course, has been a common phrase that has almost become ingrained into the minds of those who follow the Browns. It has been used time and time again to absolve Watson of his struggles since the blockbuster trade brought him to Cleveland. In a three-word post, that is one of the words that Cooper chose to use to sum up the trade.

The chances would appear slim that this was an unintentional use of the word in this instance.

Bills release ex-Chiefs WR after trading for Amari Cooper

The Buffalo #Bills released veteran WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday after trading for Pro Bowl pass-catcher Amari Cooper.

On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills released veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, after trading for Pro Bowl pass-catcher Amari Cooper.

The Chiefs have dealt with injuries in their receiving corps this year and Valdes-Scantling’s availability could open the door for his potential return to Kansas City.

Though there has been no indication that the Chiefs are interested in bringing Valdes-Scantling back, speculation abounds regarding Kansas City’s need at the receiver position.

For now, it remains more likely that general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid will elect to activate Justyn Ross, Nikko Remigio, or
Montrell Washington from their practice squad to shore up the depth on their 53-man roster.

While Valdes-Scantling will be an option for the Chiefs immediately after his release, fans shouldn’t expect the two-time champion to remain a free agent for long as teams around the NFL consider what his speed and experience might bring to their offenses.

Former star Alabama receiver traded to Buffalo Bills

The former Alabama star is on the move once again.

One of the greatest wide receivers in Alabama Crimson Tide football history is on the move once again in the NFL, as Amari Cooper was traded Tuesday from the Cleveland Browns to the Buffalo Bills according to reports.

Cooper was currently in the middle of his third season in Cleveland with the Browns where the veteran had two 1,000+ yard receiving seasons in 2022 and 2023. So far this season, Cooper had started in all six games with the Browns where he had 24 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns.

The former Alabama great is currently in his 10th NFL season, and now lands with his fourth different team. Over those 10 seasons, Cooper has nearly 10,000 receiving yards with 60+ touchdowns, and is a five-time Pro Bowl selection.

Cooper was a three-year starter at Alabama from 2012-14 who left the Crimson Tide as one of the greatest wide receivers in program history.

The star wideout has only continued to carry over that success year-by-year in the NFL, and will now look to do the same in Buffalo.

National reactions: Bills’ Amari Cooper trade is being praised

National reactions: Bills’ Amari Cooper trade is being praised

Western New York is pretty happy about the addition the Buffalo Bills via trade, acquiring wide receiver Amari Cooper in a deal with the Cleveland Browns.

So are many around the NFL world.

The Bills (4-2), fresh off a 23-20 win over the New York Jets (2-4) on “Monday Night Football,” landed a big-named wideout.

It’s easy to see why. While there have been moments for the playmakers on Buffalo’s offense this year… they’ve been few and far between. Whether or not Cooper changes that? Time will tell.

But off the bat, the deal is getting the positive coverage.

Here is a national media roundup of the Bills’ decision to trade for Cooper:

Should Chiefs add Mike Williams after Davante Adams, Amari Cooper trades?

Should the Kansas City #Chiefs consider trading for New York Jets WR Mike Williams after missing out on Davante Adams and Amari Cooper?

The Kansas City Chiefs may look to add another receiver to their active roster with Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and Rashee Rice sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Two star pass catchers, Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders and Amari Cooper of the Cleveland Browns, were traded to the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills respectively on Monday, and Kansas City’s options are now relatively limited.

On Tuesday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Jets are open to moving veteran wideout Mike Williams after their acquisition of Adams. The former Los Angeles Charger would be a logical target for the Chiefs if Andy Reid and Brett Veach decide that Patrick Mahomes needs another weapon.

Despite the injuries to Brown and Rice, Kansas City’s front office hasn’t made any indication that it is keen to add another wide receiver.

For now, it seems that the Chiefs are more likely to elevate a pass-catcher from their practice squad than they are to make a big splash in the trade market after their bye week.
