Former Alabama pitcher Alton Davis II commits to SEC rival

Former Alabama relief pitcher Alton Davis II announced that he is transferring to Georgia.

One former Alabama Crimson Tide baseball player will continue his college career in the SEC. On Wednesday, relief pitcher Alton Davis II announced that he was transferring to the Georgia Bulldogs via his X account.

Davis II spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa. The native of Hueytown, Alabama was a staple in the Alabama bullpen in both seasons. As a freshman, Davis II made 25 appearances for the Crimson Tide. He finished the season with a 1-2 record and a 5.35 earned run average. Davis II struck out 32 batters in 33.2 innings pitched.

As a sophomore, Davis II finished with a 4-2 record and a 5.61 earned run average. In 33.2 innings pitched, Davis II struck out 38 batters.

Alabama will have to replace Davis II as he was the “go to” reliever during the 2024 season. It will be interesting to see if Georgia decides to use Davis II as a starter or as a reliever.

The Alabama baseball program lost one of its top relief pitchers to the transfer portal. Sophomore Alton Davis II entered the transfer portal on Thursday afternoon.

The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball program likely lost one of its best arms on Thursday afternoon. According to D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers, Alabama relief pitcher Alton Davis II has entered the transfer portal.

Davis II was a key reliever for the Crimson Tide the past two seasons. Davis II seemed to be the go-to arm out of the bullpen for Alabama during the 2024 season.

As a freshman, Davis II finished with a 1-2 record and a 5.35 earned average. In addition, he had eight saves. The native of Hueytown, Alabama finished the 2024 season with a 4-2 record and a 5.61 earned run average. He had four saves on the season as well. Overall, Davis II struck out 70 batters in 67.1 innings pitched for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama will look to replace Davis II through the transfer portal. Alabama head coach Rob Vaughn and the Alabama coaching staff will need to address the pitching issues that they faced during the 2024 season. Davis II’s departure will be one that might sting for a little while. However, Vaughn and the coaching staff will do their due diligence in trying to find his replacement.

Two Alabama freshmen receive prestigous recognition following impressive season

Freshmen Colby Shelton and Alton Davis II were named as a Second-team freshman All-Americans by the National College Writers Baseball Association. Both had impressive first-year campaigns in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama freshmen Colby Shelton and Alton Davis II were named as second-team freshman All-Americans by the National College Baseball Writers Association.

Both Shelton and Davis II played key roles for the Crimson Tide in 2023.

Shelton had a stellar freshman campaign at the plate. He accounted for 25 home runs and 51 runs batted. Shelton led the team in home runs, slugging percentage (.729), and OPS (1.148).

Davis II finished the season as the team’s go-to arm out of the bullpen. An electric fastball and energy on the mound helped Davis II earn national recognition. He recorded two saves and recorded 11 strikeouts in 10.2 innings.

Davis II will play for Team USA this summer. It is unclear if Shelton will participate in any summer leagues.

SERIES RECAP: Alabama baseball earns series sweep over Missouri

After a much-needed series win last weekend over arch-rival Auburn in Tuscaloosa, coach Brad Bohannon and the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team got another SEC series win with a road sweep of the Missouri Tigers.

Thanks to winning consecutive conference series, Alabama now sits with a 9-9 record in SEC play before back-to-back series against the SEC’s top schools, the LSU Tigers and the Vanderbilt Commodores.
