Ohio State hints at possible alternate uniform for Oregon game

Oregon announced some time ago that its game with Ohio State would be a “blackout” game. The team will be wearing an all-black look from one of its many uniform combinations and has instructed fans to wear black to the game as well.

Well, the Ducks aren’t the only team in America with some alternate looks. Last week, the Buckeyes threw on the all-gray ensemble for Iowa and now there are hints of Ohio State wearing something non-traditional for the game in Eugene.

The official Ohio State Football X account flashed an image of a Buckeye helmet emerging from what looks like the wooded grounds of the Pacific Northwest as it gets covered with frost. This is leading many to believe that OSU will be wearing its all-white unis.

Ohio State has only worn the white shirt, white pants combo three times before, but it’s been a while. The first version was revealed in 2013 on the road against Michigan. That same version was worn a year later at Penn State.

A newer edition known as “sub-zero” has only been worn once before, which took place in 2020 at Michigan State. It should be noted, that all three games the all-white combo has been donned resulted in victory for the Buckeyes. Let’s hope for a fourth against the Ducks!

Oregon unveils new alternate uniforms for Friday night’s matchup with MSU:

Michigan State football will travel to Eugene on Friday night for a big time clash against No. 6 Oregon at Autzen Stadium.

Oregon, who Phil Knight is very famously an alumnus of, is known for the creative uniform combinations that they wear from Nike. On Friday, the Ducks will be unveiling a new uniform combo.

Revealed via X, the uniforms were designed by the Lanning family with each thread represents triumph and showing support for those who have battled cancer, while raising awareness to fight for the cure.

Nebraska soccer unveils alternate jersey ahead of Omaha match

The alternate jersey is part of Nebraska’s blackout theme for its match against the Omaha Mavericks on Thursday night.

The Nebraska soccer team unveiled a new uniform for its upcoming week of action. The Huskers revealed on X their new alternate black jerseys, which they plan to wear for their match against Omaha on Thursday.

The alternate jersey is part of Nebraska’s blackout theme for its match against the Mavericks. It also has red stripes on the sleeves and red streaks down the sides, while the word NEBRASKA sits on the chest to accompany the black shirt. The goalies also received alternate uniforms, a light blue striped jersey.

Nebraska welcomes Omaha and Creighton to Lincoln this week. The Huskers face the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, and the theme is red out, likely indicating that Nebraska will be donning its red jersey for the match.

The kickoff for Thursday’s match is set for 7:05 p.m., while Sunday’s match is slated for 1:05 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on B1G+.

Nebraska will not wear alternate uniforms in 2024

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will not have an alternate uniform in 2024. 

While alternate uniforms may have become a common trend in college football, one team will not participate this year: the Nebraska Cornhuskers will not have an alternate uniform in 2024.

Head coach Matt Rhule confirmed the news with the Husker Radio Network on Wednesday.

Because of the way everything works, they start two years out. They’re talking to our marketing team about alternate uniforms in 2026, so there’s no alternate uniform this year. So, there’s no alternate uniform this year. Last year they had the throwback to the first game with the blue outline against Northwestern. That was something that had been planned two years prior. I’m a traditionalists. I love traditional uniforms.

Last season, Nebraska wore its standard red jerseys but with a blue border around the numbers. The blue border honored the first game Nebraska played at Memorial Stadium when the Cornhuskers wore blue uniforms.

The Huskers have had mixed results with alternate uniforms, so it’s not a significant loss to hear that the team has opted out of the trend in 2024.

Commanders to bring back gold pants in 2024

The gold pants are back.

On the franchise’s 92nd birthday, the Washington Commanders took a trip down memory lane. The Commanders revealed on X that their famous gold pants would be back in the uniform rotation in 2024.

The 2024 season will be the first time since 2018 that Washington has donned the gold pants. The franchise first began wearing them after moving to D.C. from Boston in 1937. After being part of the uniform rotation for 40 years, the gold pants disappeared in the late 1970s and were not part of Washington’s Super Bowl teams in the 1980s and early 90s.

There were rare occasions that the team brought them back, but it wasn’t until former team president Bruce Allen came to Washington ahead of the 2010 season that the gold pants were officially a part of the team’s uniform rotation. Allen, whose father George was a legendary head coach of the Redskins in the 1970s, was a fan of the look.

The Commanders did not reveal which games they would wear the gold pants in 2024.

Ohio State to wear all gray alternate uniforms again in 2024

Last season, Ohio State gave fans a new twist on tradition. While some alternate uniforms are met with angst, the all gray unis seemed to get the approval of the majority of fans. So much so, that it was announced that the Bucks will wear the alternate ensemble once again in 2024. This time when Iowa comes to town on October 5.

Ohio State debuted the all grays last year against Michigan State. The Buckeyes dominated Sparty in the game with a 27-7 victory.

OSU will also honor its 2024 Athletics Hall of Fame inductees against the Hawkeyes according to the list of themes for all games. The schedule also lists a home matchup with Nebraska on October 26 as “Scarlet the Shoe.” Could the Buckeyes break out the all-scarlet alternate uniforms for the Cornhuskers? Nothing official as of yet, but don’t be surprised if the Bucks have the scarlet trousers on when they come out of the tunnel for homecoming.

Broncos can wear alternate or throwback uniforms 3 times this season

The Broncos can wear an alternate OR throwback uniform up to three times per season. We’ll likely see the blue jerseys worn at least once.

The Denver Broncos unveiled new primary, alternate and throwback uniforms on Monday. With blue, orange and white options for their jerseys, pants and helmets, the Broncos can mix and match to make nine different jersey/pants/helmet combinations, plus a 10th throwback look.

The Broncos will keep orange as their primary jersey and the dark navy blue will be the team’s alternate jersey. Denver also introduced a 1977-inspired throwback uniform with an orange jersey and light blue helmet.

The Broncos will wear their primary blue jersey for most home games and their primary white jersey for road games. Denver can wear an alternate or throwback uniform up to three times per season.

The Broncos will likely wear their blue jersey as an alternate at least once this year, which means the throwback uniform won’t be worn more than twice in 2024. Unfortunately, Denver can’t wear an all-white alternate uniform because the blue jersey has been designated as their alternate jersey.

So unless the Broncos introduce a white alternate jersey in the future, the team’s white alternate helmet will be paired with the navy alternate jersey. And that alternate uniform will cut into the number of times the throwback uniform can be worn each season.

Judging by how well the throwback uniform has been received, fans in Denver probably won’t be too pleased to hear this news.

Colts to wear ‘Indiana Nights’ uniform vs. Browns

The Colts will debut their ‘Indiana Nights’ uniforms on Sunday.

The Indianapolis Colts will be unveiling an alternate set of uniforms dubbed “Indiana Nights” when they host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

It was made known before the start of the season that the Colts would be debuting this set of alternate uniforms, which features a black helmet, a double-white stripe on the shoulder and a blue heather material.

In the weekly media guide release, the Colts gave this tagline for the uniform debut:

Decades of tradition meets a new, bolder look inspired by the blue and black of the Indiana night skies. Designed to honor our home state and the resiliency that drives us every day. These are our “Indiana Nights.”

While keeping the classic numbers, the addition of the black trim and helmets is a new concept for the Colts. Meanwhile, the Indiana “C” logo with the state outlined inside the letter will be on the left shoulder of every uniform, which should not be confused with the Captain’s “C.”

The Colts and Browns are set to kickoff at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Commanders to wear black alternate uniforms on Thursday night vs. Bears

The Commanders break out the black alternates for the first time in 2023.

The Washington Commanders will break out the all-black alternate uniforms for their Thursday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears.

Washington debuted the new black alternates last year when the team rebranded from the “Football Team” to the Commanders. Washington wore the uniforms three times last season, winning one game and losing two.

The Commanders debuted the uniforms against the Dallas Cowboys and lost 25-10. They wore them in a Week 9 home game against the Minnesota Vikings in Kirk Cousins’ return to FedEx Field and lost on a last-second field goal.

The Commanders’ only win in the alternate uniforms came in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Many Washington fans are still getting accustomed to the all-black uniforms. Some like them. Some don’t — just like the name.

Huskers unveil alternate uniforms for Memorial Stadium’s 100th anniversary

Alternate uniforms have become all the rage in college football over the years.

Alternate uniforms have become all the rage in college football over the years. Nebraska didn’t embrace the trend until the 2009 season.

Over the years, the Cornhuskers have worn some unique designs. The last alternate uniform Nebraska wore was last season when the Huskers honored the 1983 team.

The program will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Nebraska football at Memorial Stadium with another alternate uniform. The Huskers will wear their standard red jerseys but will incorporate a blue border around the numbers.

The blue border will honor the first game Nebraska played at Memorial Stadium when Cornhuskers wore blue uniforms. The Huskers wore blue uniforms to allow the visiting Oklahoma Sooners to wear red.

There are other subtle changes to the uniforms, such as a patch to honor Memorial Stadium. The Huskers will wear the uniforms on October 21 when Nebraska will host Northwestern.
