Chiefs will play 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium

Chiefs will play 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium

The Kansas City Chiefs, champions of the AFC, will officially take on the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and we now know the game schedule details.

The NFL announced that the Chiefs will face the 49ers on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. This year, an alternative broadcast of the big game on Nickelodeon will be for kids.

On Sunday night, San Francisco mounted a large comeback at home in the NFC Championship game to get the best of the Detroit Lions 34-31. They were led by quarterback Brock Purdy’s 267-yard passing, a touchdown, and running back Christian McCaffrey’s two touchdowns and 90 yards rushing to punch their ticket to Las Vegas. Kansas City is making its sixth appearance in the big game, while San Francisco will go for the eighth time.

In their most recent meeting during the 2022 season, The Chiefs overpowered George Kittle and the 49ers in Week 7, winning on the road 44-23. Mahomes finished that game with 423 passing yards, one interception, and three touchdowns, while rookie Isiah Pacheco made his first NFL career start. Chris Jones collected two sacks on then 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The Chiefs also defeated San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV 31-20, securing the first title for the franchise in 50 years, with Mahomes taking home MVP honors.

This year’s entertainment will include artists Reba McEntire, Post Malone, and Andra Day, who were announced as the pregame performers. McEntire will sing the national anthem, Post Malone will sing “America the Beautiful.” and Andra Day will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Eight-time Grammy Award winner Usher will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show.

Another embarrassing visiting fan takeover at Allegiant for Raiders

Vikings fans with latest embarrassing visiting fan takeover of Allegiant for Raiders

How bad has it gotten for the Raiders in their ‘home’ stadium? Visiting teams are now posting videos to their social media of their fans taking over Allegiant.

This was not just a cherry-picked section of the stadium by the Vikings social media either. The entire crowd was a decided solid shake of purple.

You could hear it too.

Late in a game in which neither team had scored until inside the final two minutes, the Vikings just needed a stop to preserve a 3-0 victory. They got it on one play and just listen to the crowd erupt when Aidan O’Connell throws the interception.

That’s not the sound of a deflated home crowd. That’s an elated crowd of visiting fans

This is also nothing new. Visiting fans have been taking over Allegiant since it opened. And it doesn’t seem to matter if the team is playing winning football or not. Early in the season, when hope was still alive, they saw the stadium overrun by Steelers fans in Week three and Packers fans in Week five.

It’s a combination of issues for the Raiders. It’s inflated ticket prices, being a tourist destination for visiting fans, many people who purchased Raiders season tickets as an investment to sell for a profit, and Vegas being relatively isolated which means a good portion of the team’s actual fans live over four hours away.

Whatever the reasons, the lack of a home field advantage for the Raiders only appears to be getting worse.

Davante Adams: support at Allegiant Stadium starting to feel like Raiders’ home field advantage in Oakland

Davante Adams: Raiders’ home field advantage at Allegiant improving

To make an understatement, Oakland and Las Vegas are a lot different. So it’s no surprise that Allegiant Stadium has had a different vibe than the Raiders’ previous home, the venerable Oakland Coliseum.

Fans in Oakland were well known for being boisterous, rowdy, and intimidating. That’s despite relatively low attendance, judging by the infamous tarps ownership placed over seats in the upper deck to reduce capacity.

Ticket sales in Las Vegas, on the other hand, aren’t an issue at all, as Allegiant has been sold out from the start. But given the high resale value of tickets and the Raiders’ spotty win-loss record, some games have had an unsightly influx of visiting fans.

Since interim coach Antonio Pierce took over it’s been mostly silver and black in the stands, and Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has taken notice. On Tuesday, he told reporters he felt some Oakland vibes during the team’s last two home games, both wins.

“I came here with the intention of making it tough on teams coming here in this building and not making it a friendly place to play. In Oakland, that’s how it’s been historically,” Adams said. “Everybody coming there, they already knew they were going to have to deal with the fans, and we’re starting to feel that from our fans now.

“So we just got to continue to do our part, team-wise, to make sure we’re applying that pressure and making it not a fun place to come here and play.”

It’s a great sign that Raiders fans have packed Allegiant over the last two home games, but as Adams says, the Raiders must keep giving them a reason to show up. After Pierce took over for ex-coach Josh McDaniels, the fans certainly had a reason to attend and they were rewarded with two home victories.

For now, it appears that attendance at Allegiant will vary depending on the team’s performance. The Raiders are in Las Vegas, after all. There’s a lot to do in the Entertainment Capital of the World. Visiting fans, on the other hand, can’t wait to visit America’s adult playground no matter the price, giving Raiders fans an opportunity to recoup part of what they spent on season tickets.

If the Raiders build a winner, all indications point to a boisterous home crowd at Allegiant that rivals the legendary crowd in Oakland. Having one of the best players in the NFL in Adams will certainly help the cause.

Cam Jordan’s goal for 2023: ‘I expect to take Derek Carr back to Vegas’ for Super Bowl 58

Cam Jordan’s goal for 2023 is simple, saying on SiriusXM NFL Radio: ‘I expect to take Derek Carr back to Vegas’ for Super Bowl 58

Whew. You can’t say Cameron Jordan isn’t motivated — the New Orleans Saints defensive end made an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, and after sharing a thoughtful take on the impact Derek Carr could have on the Saints offense in crunch time, situations that got away from the team in recent years, he delivered the money line.

Asked about his expectations for 2023, Jordan responded: “I expect the Super Bowl, I expect to take Derek Carr, DC4, back to Vegas where he just left and have a return run, have the Super Bowl.”

Super Bowl LVIII will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the home turf of the same Raiders franchise that just kicked Carr to the curb in favor of oft-injured quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Carr has made his feelings about the fallout clear, admitting he didn’t play his best football last year, but Jordan knows as well as anyone what it would mean for Carr to lift the Lombardi Trophy in the Raiders’ own building.

And as he observed, Carr could do a lot to help the Saints offense right itself after its struggles in life without Drew Brees and Sean Payton. Jordan pointed out the fatal mistakes the team made in so many losses last year — a failed third-down conversion here, a missed scoring opportunity there — and voiced his confidence that Carr can take care of business so that Jordan’s defense can focus on protecting “every blade of grass.” He’s fired up. It’s a shame we have to wait so long to see that passion translate to the field when the season begins in September.

Where will the next 3 Super Bowls be played through 2026?

Where will the next three Super Bowls be played? We know know the locations through 2026.

We now know where the next three Super Bowls will be held.

USA Today reported on Friday that the San Francisco 49ers have won rights to host Super Bowl 60 in 2026, sending the big game out to Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium.

Before 2026’s Super Bowl 60, the big game will travel to Las Vegas and New Orleans for its next two installments.

Next year, the Las Vegas Raiders will host Super Bowl 58 at their new Allegiant Stadium. It’ll give NFL fans a chance to enjoy the casinos and Vegas shows before taking in the height of the football season.

In 2025, the big game will head down to the Big Easy and host NFL fans at the New Orleans Saints’ Caesars Superdome. Patrons can stroll down Bourbon Street, listen to some jazz music and eat some good Cajun food ahead of Super Bowl 59.

Then, in 2026, the Super Bowl will reportedly return to Santa Clara for the first time since 2016.

Which cities will host the Super Bowl in 2024, 2025?

Las Vegas and New Orleans in back-to-back years?

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles out in the desert for Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, with the game taking place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the home of the Arizona Cardinals.

Super Bowl sites are chosen several years in advance, and in addition to the 2023 matchup, we also know where the next two games are set to be played. In 2024, the game is heading out west once again as the game will take place on Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the first time.

The following year, the game is heading to The Big Easy on Feb. 9, 2025. New Orleans’ Caesar’s Superdome is set to host its eighth league championship.

The NFL hasn’t set any Super Bowl sites beyond 2025, but there are rumors that Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, is a prime candidate in either 2026 or 2027. There are even rumors of a potential bid for London in 2026, which would mark the first Super Bowl outside of the United States.

Photos from Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series win over BYU

Here are some images you might have missed in this year’s Shamrock Series game.

Notre Dame defeated BYU, 28-20, in its annual Shamrock Series game. It might not have been the prettiest win, but nobody’s counting that. All we know is the Irish are above .500 for the first time this season, and that’s a great first step towards getting into a quality bowl game. Yes, it stinks that we’ve had to temper our expectations for this season, but that’s how it goes in college football.

The nice thing about this game is that it set the Allegiant Stadium attendance record for a college game (62,742), which previously was held by last year’s Pac-12 title game. It qualified as a sellout, so if you weren’t there, you only could imagine what it was like to be there in Las Vegas. We can’t replicate the atmosphere exactly, but we can give you some images to illustrate what people at the game saw. Here they are, and we know you enjoyed the outcome:

How to watch Shamrock Series: Notre Dame vs. BYU

All your viewing information

Notre Dame is usually the easiest college football team to find on TV as its  home games are always on NBC (unless Peacock gets in the way … insert eyeroll emoji) and the vast majority of its road games are easily accessible.

This week is easy, even though the Irish are “home” they will be on their home network this evening.

Here are the viewing notes:

  • Game Day: Oct. 8th, 2022
  • Kickoff: 6:30 p.m. ET
  • TV: NBC
  • Streaming: Peacock
  • Venue: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada

Have fun tonight and go Irish!

Alvin Kamara arrested in Las Vegas, charged with battery after Pro Bowl

Saints’ Alvin Kamara arrested in Las Vegas and charged with battery after Pro Bowl:

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was arrested in Las Vegas on Sunday evening and charged with battery that police say caused “substantial bodily harm” to the victim, stemming from an incident at a local nightclub on Saturday. He’s currently scheduled to appear before a judge at 1:30 p.m. PT on Monday. His bond was set at $5,000.

This comes just hours after Kamara participated in the 2022 Pro Bowl event at Allegiant Stadium. It was Kamara’s fourth trip to the Pro Bowl in as many seasons he’s played in the NFL, so this is obviously a high-profile situation. Stay tuned for updates.

This is a developing story…
