Two Commanders named among the top 5 in their position groups

Only two Commanders make the top 5 of their respective positions.

The Washington Commanders sent five players to the Pro Bowl Games last weekend. However, only one Washington player was named to the AP All-Pro team last month. Safety Jeremy Reaves was a unanimous choice for each of the All-Pro teams as the special teams standout.

Reaves, along with wide receiver Terry McLaurin, punter Tress Way and defensive tackles Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne, all participated in the Pro Bowl Games.

This leads us to the next question: How many of Washington’s players would you consider among the top five at their respective positions?

According to the NFLPA, two Washington players were ranked among the top five at their position.

On the interior defensive line, Allen came in at No. 4 behind Chris Jones, Aaron Donald and Quinnen Williams. Payne missed the cut. While Payne is receiving plenty of love coming off his breakout season, Allen has been the consistently more dominant player.

Reaves was listed as the No. 1 “core teamer” for special teams, which is not a surprise. Reaves’ story was one of the best in the NFL in 2022, seeing his hard work pay off.

No other Washington player made the list. McLaurin and Way missed out. The wide receiver position in ridiculously deep and bad quarterback play has often hindered McLaurin’s chances of earning even more recognition. The NFLPA named three punters and, somehow, didn’t include Way.

Washington fans would be sick to know former team stalwarts Trent Williams and Brandon Scherff were ranked No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, at their positions.

Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves named AP first-team All Pro

What a week for Washington safety/special-teams standout, Jeremy Reaves.

It’s been an amazing month for Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves. Last month, Reaves made his first Pro Bowl as the special-teams representative for the NFC.

Head coach Ron Rivera informed Reaves in a heartwarming moment that Reaves shared with teammate and friend, punter Tress Way.

Reaves added another honor this week, as he made the NFLPA’s player’s All-Pro team. Being voted to the All-Pro team by your peers is significant.

Reaves wasn’t done, as he was named to the Associated Press first-team All-Pro team on Friday. Reaves received 91 votes, including 24 first-place votes as the NFC’s All-Pro special-teamer.

Reaves changed his name on Twitter to highlight his accomplishments.

Reaves is a fantastic story, having gone undrafted in 2018 and signing with the Philadelphia Eagles after the draft. However, he was among Philly’s final cuts. Shortly after, Washington signed him to its practice squad.

Over the next few years, Reaves spent time going back and forth between the active roster and the practice squad, always excelling whenever he played on defense. Finally, in 2022, Reaves made Washington’s roster out of training camp and had an outstanding season. He led the NFL in special-teams tackles and was a central figure on Washington’s coverage units. He filled in for the injured Kamren Curl in the Commanders’ final three games and played well.

It’s safe to say Reaves doesn’t have to worry about his roster spot in 2023.

Congratulations to Jeremy Reaves.

Tyrann Mathieu among 4 Saints players who received All-Pro votes for 2022

Tyrann Mathieu is among 4 New Orleans Saints players who received All-Pro votes for 2022, along with Demario Davis and a couple of special teamers:

Veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu is among several New Orleans Saints players who received votes for the Associated Press 2022 All-Pro teams, along with linebacker Demario Davis and a couple of special teamers. Davis was the only player out of the group to be selected for the annual All-Pro list (he made the second team for the third year in a row), but three of his teammates also received ballots in their favor.

It’s a bit of a step down from past years when the All-Pro teams were littered with standout Saints players, but it’s still good to see some of them receive this recognition. We’ll take the silver linings we can get after such a difficult 2022 season. This year, first team votes were valued at 3 points and second team votes were set at 1 point, leading to cumulative totals from the AP’s 50 ballots. Here are the four Saints players who received All-Pro votes:

10 Vikings received Associated Press All-Pro votes

Four of the ten Vikings received a first-place vote

On Friday morning, the Associated Press named their All-Pro team and it included three Minnesota Vikings. Wide receiver Justin Jefferson and long snapper Andrew DePaola made the first team and kick returner Kene Nwangwu made the second team.

With how the All-Pro voting goes, all 50 voters pick their first team and second team and they build the teams based on that. The voting is simple: three points for a first-place vote and one point for a second-place vote.

The three Vikings who earned All-Pro honors weren’t the only ones to receive votes. 10 Vikings received an All-Pro vote with four of them receiving a first-place vote. Here is how the Vikings did in the All-Pro voting.

4 Chiefs players earn AP First-Team All-Pro selections for 2022

4 #Chiefs players were named First-Team All-Pro by The Associated Press, which is the NFL’s officially recognized All-Pro selection.

The Associated Press has made its annual All-Pro selections. This is the All-Pro award officially recognized by the NFL and the one that will be remembered in the history books.

Four members of the Kansas City Chiefs were named First-Team All-Pro selections, including one player among just two who were voted in unanimously. The Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers led the way with four players each on the AP’s first team selection.

Below is a quick recap of the players selected and some information on their All-Pro history:

Demario Davis earns his fourth consecutive AP All-Pro team appearance

Demario Davis earned his fourth consecutive honor from the Associated Press, who named him a second team All-Pro for the third year in a row:

Bang: there’s some well-deserved recognition for Demario Davis from the Associated Press, who selected the New Orleans Saints linebacker as a member of the 2022 All-Pro second team on Friday. It’s the third year in a row for Davis to make the second team, and this is his fourth consecutive All-Pro honor after making the first team in 2019. He was also finally recognized as a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career this season.

Davis was the only Saints player to be on the field for all 1,132 defensive snaps in 2022 (though safety Tyrann Mathieu came close with 1,129 snaps), finishing the year with a team-leading 109 combined tackles (54 solo, 10 tackles for loss). He was also credited with 6.5 sacks and 8 quarterback hits, plus a fumble recovery, an interception, and 6 passes defensed. Not bad for someone who just celebrated his 34th birthday, having reached an age where many players begin to call it quits.

However, Davis was also the only Saints player to be recognized as an All-Pro in 2022, which goes to show how big of a step back New Orleans took this year. The Saints have had multiple All-Pro honorees every year since the 2017 season, so they’ll need to turn things around in a big way this summer to get back on top of things for 2023. Finding better ways to maximize talents like Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave would be a good start.

6 49ers earn 2022 AP All-Pro honors

The #49ers have SIX All-Pros.

The 2022 AP All-Pro teams were announced Friday and the 49ers were well-represented across the first and second teams. Six players were named to the two squads with four landing on the first-team and two earning second-team honors.

Here are the 49ers’ four first-team players:

LT Trent Williams
DE Nick Bosa
LB Fred Warner
SS Talanoa Hufanga

This is Williams and Warner’s second first-team nods. Bosa and Hufanga are both first-time All-Pros.

Here are the two second-teamers:

TE George Kittle
ST George Odum

For Kittle this is his third overall All-Pro honor. He was a second-teamer in 2018 and got a first-team nod in 2019. For Odum it’s his second All-Pro nod. He was a first-team selection in 2020 when he was with the Colts.

Dre Greenlaw was left off the All-Pro teams by one vote per the 49ers. Running back Christian McCaffrey was also snubbed after after posting 1,880 scrimmage yards and 13 total touchdowns.

Justin Jefferson named ProFootballTalk’s offensive player of the year

After a dominating season by wide receiver Justin Jefferson, the awards keep piling up

On Wednesday, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was voted an All-Pro by the NFL Players Association and Pro Football Focus. Fast forward to Thursday, and Jefferson was named Pro Football Talk’s offensive player of the year for 2022.

These high honors come as no surprise, as Jefferson was a master of his craft on the football field this season and showed week in and week out why he’s the best receiver in football.

Jefferson finished the season leading the league in receptions (128) and yards (1809) along with eight total touchdowns. Jefferson will have a few more opportunities to notch awards this season as fans wait for the Associated Press to name their All-Pro team ass well as the NFL Honors which take place Thursday, February 9th, at 8 p.m. central on NBC. If the Vikings make the Super Bowl, there is a chance that Jefferson earns MVP just like Cooper Kupp did last season.

Multiple Vikings make PFF’s All-Pro team

PFF thinks highly of the 2022 Vikings

With the regular season over, awards and recognition are coming out for the best performers. On Wednesday, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was named an All-Pro by the NFL Players Association in their first-ever rendition of the All-Pro team.

While we wait for the Associated Press All-Pro team to be announced, we saw PFF drop their own All-Pro team with a first and second team that includes three Vikings.

Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves named to inaugural NFLPA All-Pro team

Jeremy Reaves continues to earn recognition for his outstanding work on special teams.

When Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves earned his first Pro Bowl nomination last month, it was one of the more heartwarming stories of the season. Head coach Ron Rivera informed Reaves of the honor, and punter Tress Way was nearby to show love to his teammate and friend.

On Wednesday, Reaves added another honor to his resume as he was selected to the first-ever player-voted NFLPA All-Pro team. Reaves made the All-Pro team as a “core teamer” for his outstanding work on special teams.

Reaves entered the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted free agent from South Alabama. Reaves signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after the 2018 NFL draft and was released among final cuts later that summer. Reaves signed with Washington’s practice squad in September of that year and was promoted to the active roster in December.

Over the next few seasons, Reaves would go back and forth between Washington’s active roster and practice squad. It wasn’t until the summer of 2022 that Reaves made Washington’s initial 53-man roster.

Reaves led the NFL in special teams tackles and was a key figure on Washington’s terrific coverage units. In addition to his work on special teams, Reaves started Washington’s final three games at safety when Kam Curl was sidelined. And, as usual, he was great.

Reaves reacted to the news on Twitter:

Reaves is a restricted free agent this offseason, and the next step in his journey is to earn a long-term contract from the Commanders.

The NFLPA’s first-ever All-Pro uses a unique set of rules for voting that you can read more about here.
