True freshmen who participated in Alabama’s Week 1 win over Utah State

A list of true freshmen who participated in Alabama’s Week 1 win over Utah State.

Alabama head football coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] has to be pleased with his team’s effort on Saturday night as the Crimson Tide completely obliterated Utah State 55-0.

One of the most important attributes of a blowout victory is the opportunity that some of the younger players receive to see the field.

Aside from playing several second-year players, Alabama also placed a handful of true freshmen on the field. A few even received some snaps with the first team and receiver [autotag]Kobe Prentice[/autotag] earned the start in the slot.

Below is the complete list of true freshmen who participated in the Week 1 victory over Utah State.

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s dominating Week 1 win over Utah State

Alabama handled Utah State with ease on Saturday night. Let’s take a look at how the Crimson Tide graded out in Week 1.

In a completely one-sided contest, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama dominated Utah State on Saturday night to the tune of 55-0.

[autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] led things offensively for Alabama which didn’t seem to miss a beat despite losing its leading rushing and top two receivers from 2021.

Defensively the competition level may have not been what the Tide will see in the coming weeks, but anytime you can shut out an opponent you have to feel good about your defense.

Utah State head coach Blake Anderson had nothing but positive things to say about the 2022 version of the Crimson Tide. In his postgame press conference, Anderson had this to say about Alabama:

“So, I don’t want to point fingers anywhere. We physically got out-matched most of the night. I’m sure we made some mistakes, but they weren’t glaring. … We got beat by a better football with a lot of great athletes.”

Anderson’s compliments are not that surprising considering how well Alabama played right out of the gate. So, without further ado let’s get to the Week 1 report card for the Crimson Tide.

Roll Tide Wire Player of the Game: Bryce Young

Bryce Young made quick work of Utah State on his way to earning Roll Tide Wire’s player of the game.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football handled business on Saturday night by defeating Utah State

[autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] made quick work of the Aggie defense dialing up five touchdowns in the first half and giving Alabama a 41-0 lead heading into the locker room.

Young would play just one series to start the second half and he would quickly scamper for a four-yard touchdown.

On the night Young would finish 18 of 29 passing for 195 yards and five touchdown passes. Young would also add another 100 yards rushing on five carries and another touchdown.

Young’s 100 rushing yards became the first time that he would break the century mark in his Crimson Tide career.

Bryce Young hits Jermaine Burton for Alabama’s first touchdown of the season

Bryce Young hits Jermaine Burton for Alabama’s first touchdown of the 2022 season.

Alabama has officially scored its first touchdown of the 2022 football season courtesy of a [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] five-yard connection to [autotag]Jermaine Burton[/autotag].

The Georgia Bulldog transfer is proving to be a vital piece of the Alabama offense here in 2022 after being criminally underused while in Athens.

Bryce has started off the contest on fire connecting on 8 of his 10 passes for 80 yards. Burton’s touchdown reception was his second catch of the contest.

Alabama’s defense has stimied the Utah State Aggie offense early on while the Crimson Tide offense has scored on each of its first two possessions of the game.

Alabama vs Utah State Game Preview

Why Utah State Will Win

The Aggies have a game logged in.

It was rough, and it took a little bit to get going, but that’s why you play UConn at home. Calvin Tyler ran for 161 yards, Logan Bonner was a solid 20-of-29, and the offense cranked up 542 yards.

Obviously, that’s UConn and not Bama, but the defending Mountain West champs have a quick-hitting attack that can do a little of everything, the defense should be better after an improved year, and …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Alabama Will Win

UConn ran for 245 yards and averaged over six yards per carry against the Aggies.

The Utah State defensive front isn’t going to get into the backfield enough, and the secondary that wasn’t exactly tested against the Huskies will have to hold up with Bryce Young getting more than enough time to work.

College football should be reintroduced to Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs. The gaping holes will be there – UConn’s Nathan Carter ran for 190 yards averaging close to ten yards per pop. Expect to see home run after home run from the ground attack.

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Saturday

What’s Going To Happen

Alabama will win without a problem, but how sharp the team looks out of the gate?

Can Young get in sync with his new main receivers and just how explosive are all the parts to the attack?

Utah State won’t be a total pushover – Bonner is a good, veteran quarterback, and the offense has parts.

There will be just enough production from the Mountain West club to give Nick Saban something to honk about all week – Utah State has either won or lost by a touchdown or less in five of its last six games against Power Five teams, with the one blowout loss coming to 2019 LSU – but there won’t be a whole lot of drama.

It’s Alabama in a season opener. Bad things are going to happen.

Roll Tide Wire staff predictions for Alabama vs Utah State

The staff at Roll Tide Wire dishes out their predictions for Alabama’s matchup with Utah State!

Alabama will start the 2022 season off at home on Saturday against the Utah State Aggies. Head coach[autotag] Nick Saban[/autotag] has been preparing this team since its disappointing defeat to the Georgia Bulldogs in January.

Alabama will be led by reigning Heisman Trophy winner [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] on offense, while star outside linebacker [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] will anchor the Crimson Tide defense.

Alabama is a considerable favorite over the outmatched Aggies from Logan, Utah, and should be able to handle business here in Week 1.

While we are not expecting to learn a lot about this team on Saturday, it is an opportunity for the team to get its feet wet and continue to build depth on the roster while preparing for a gauntlet of a season ahead.

Staff predicts the game

Alabama (-41.5) Record ATS Winner Record Overall

Sam Murphy Utah State 0-0 Alabama 0-0

AJ Spurr

In 2019, Alabama missed the College Football Playoff for the first and only time since the format began. The disappointment from that season led to a perfect 15-0 record and a national title in 2020. Despite making the national championship game in 2021, it was a down year for Alabama. Much like they did in 2020, the Crimson Tide will look to bounce back in a big way in 2022. No better way to make a statement than by making it clear in Week 1 that you are the team to beat. Utah State struggled with UConn. Alabama is far from UConn. This one will be over quickly.

All offseason you have heard the Alabama players and coaches alike discuss how disappointed they were with the way the 2021 season ended. That leaves Utah State in a pretty tough spot. Unfortunately for the Aggies, they are the first in line for the revenge tour of 2022. Bryce Young and the Alabama offense will come out firing on all cylinders and the Tide defense led by Will Anderson will smother the Aggie offense as ‘Bama puts away the Aggies in quick fashion.

Sam Murphy

I fully expect 2022 to be one of the most complete Alabama teams we have seen under Nick Saban. With a lot of new pieces, it may take a quarter or two for all the gears to get fully moving, but once their in motion good luck stopping the Tide. Bryce Young and Will Anderson will both show why they are the two most feared players in college football, and the transfers will show why Nick Saban sniped them out of the portal. That being said, covering 41.5 in an early September game ahead of Texas seems like a lot of points to me.

Alabama 52, Utah State 17

Brody Smoot

I think Alabama will come out and make a statement on offense. Although the playmakers are new at wide receiver, I expect the new group to step up early. Bryce should be really effective behind an offensive line that should be much improved under OL coach Eric Wolford. The Aggies won’t have enough in the tank to overcome a large deficit. I think Alabama’s defense will play extremely well and come out with urgency. The air attack is one factor that does concern me, however. Quarterback Logan Bonner is fairly efficient and doesn’t make bad decisions. I just feel like the Aggies’ OL won’t be able to contain Will Anderson and Dallas Turner.

Storylines to follow in Alabama’s matchup with Utah State

Here are the top storylines to follow in the Crimson Tide’s season-opening matchup with Utah State.

Alabama football is back, ladies and gentlemen! Week 0 has concluded and we now move on to week one of the college football season.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama will not have as easy of a task as most fans would think in their week one matchup against Utah State. Utah State is coming off a special season in 2021 where they won 11 games, including a win over a power five program in their bowl game.

Utah State also returns several key members from their historic 2021 team and will not come into Bryant-Denny Stadium and just hand the Crimson Tide the win.

The Crimson Tide will have their work cut out for them come Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. Let’s take a look at a few of the storylines as we enter Week 1 of Alabama’s 2022 football season
