Behind Enemy Lines: Longhorns Wire previews Alabama-Texas

A closer look at Alabama’s Week 2 opponent courtesy of Longhorns Wire.

The highly anticipated non-conference matchup between Alabama and Texas is just around the corner.

Between the tradition of the two programs, the padawan now facing his former master makes up just a couple of the major storylines entering the epic matchup.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide are considerable favorites heading into Saturday’s contest in Austin, but you never know what Steve Sarkisian might have up his sleeve for his former boss.

‘We have a ton of respect for Texas’ says Alabama’s Will Anderson

Will Anderson and Alabama are showing plenty of respect for Texas ahead of the Week 2 matchup with the Longhorns.

One of the most anticipated non-conference matchups of the entire 2022 season will take place this coming Saturday when Alabama travels to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns.

Now that Alabama has moved past Utah State, the coaches and players can shift their focus to this matchup. On Monday, Crimson Tide star linebacker [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] answered some questions from members of the media and when he was asked about the benefits of playing Texas so early in the season, Anderson had this to say.

“We have a ton of respect for Texas. They’re a really good team, they have a really good coaching staff, a lot of good players. I think it’s gonna be a great challenge for us, but as you know, preparation starts this week, and as we go along in the week we’re just gonna prepare the right way and get ready for the game on Saturday.”

Here is everything that Will Anderson said on Monday as the Tide prepares for its trip to Austin.

Texas enters Alabama game with nothing to lose, everything to gain

Teams that have nothing to lose can be unpredictable.

Texas will have one psychological edge on its side Saturday. The Longhorns have less than their opponent has to lose.

Steve Sarkisian’s squad entered the 2022 season unranked and unheralded after losing seven games last year. Alabama enters Saturday’s matchup as the national title favorite, head-and-shoulders above the competition.

With their preseason accolades come national championship expectations. The Crimson Tide will receive the benefit of the doubt should they only lose one game, but will face much stiffer competition than Texas to finish the season.

The stated goal for Texas is to play for a Big 12 Championship this year. For that reason, and the fact that they are far away from national title contention, the Longhorns can play a focused but confident game.

Sports psychologists will tell you that between stress and lethargy there is an optimal level of energy in the middle where players perform their best.

The challenge of playing Alabama will no doubt bring focused mental and physical energy. The fact that the game has no bearing on their goals can keep the Longhorns grounded.

Texas has a chance to use this psychological advantage. Saturday will present the opportunity to capitalize.

Storylines to follow in Alabama’s matchup with Texas

Here are the top storylines to follow in the Crimson Tide’s highly anticipated matchup with Texas.

Now that Alabama has taken care of its Week 1 opponent, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide can now look ahead to its much anticipated Week 2 matchup with the Texas Longhorns.

Both Texas and the Tide handled business in Week 1 against inferior opponents and now the first true test for each team lies ahead this coming Saturday in Austin.

With all the connections between the Longhorns and the Crimson Tide there are plenty of storylines to follow as Alabama travels to take on the Longhorns but today we will look at five that I believe to be the most important.

Let’s roll!

Former Alabama RB makes bold statement regarding Texas’ Week 2 matchup against Tide

Former Alabama running back Keilan Robinson made a strong declaration about Texas’ matchup with the Tide.

One former Alabama player didn’t hold back when speaking on Texas’ matchup with the Tide in September. Former Alabama and current Texas Longhorns running back [autotag]Keilan Robinson[/autotag] recently spoke about their matchup on a Twitter space that he hosted. Here is what Robinson said:

“Ain’t no chip on our shoulder, it’s just a … it might be a chip (because) it’s Texas, because you there’s a few people that might be trying to count us out, but knowing what I know, seeing what I see every day being here and being there, I know we can beat them boys. We just got to do what we got to do.”

Robinson spent just one season at Alabama in 2019 before sitting out the following season due to COVID-19. In that one season, he had 39 carries for 254 yards and two touchdowns. Soon after Alabam won the 2020 national championship, he elected to transfer to Texas and re-unite with several former Alabama coaches and players.

He wasn’t the only former member of the Crimson Tide to head to the Texas. Alabama lost numerous players and coaches to the Longhorns once former Tide offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian left for Texas.

Since then, there has been tension between the two programs. Robinson and former Alabama wide receiver [autotag]Agiye Hall[/autotag] have both had things to say about the program after transferring.

When speaking with 247Sports’ Chip Brown, Hall had this to say:

One thing that really stood out is the culture. Bama fans — they’re not really loving, if I could say — even when you leave. Texas fans are like a family. They love you unconditionally.”

This Week 2 contest will mean something special. It will likely be one of many matchups to come as the Longhorns are slated to join the SEC in the coming years. This game will likely determine how each team’s season will go. It is shaping to be a game for the centuries.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama Football throughout the 2022 offseason.

Alabama Morning Drive: ‘Bama vs. Texas set to air on FOX

The latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday morning.

Good Tuesday morning and welcome back to another edition of Alabama Morning Drive. Monday got the week started off with a bang and we want to carry that momentum into the remainder of the week.

A lot has happened over the last 24 hours and we are going to do our best to fill you in with the latest and greatest involving the Crimson Tide of Alabama.

One of the biggest stories of the day was the release that the much anticipated week two matchup between Alabama and Texas is set to air on FOX.

Unfortunately, with FOX picking up the TV rights, it appears that the [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and [autotag]Steve Sarkisian[/autotag] matchup is destined for a noon eastern kickoff time.

Let’s take a look at a few more stories that Alabama fans should be taking note of this Tuesday morning. I’ll give you a hint, it is a recruiting-focused edition.

Alabama drops the final two games of the series against No. 1 Texas

Tough weekend of baseball for the Tide after No. 1 Texas swept the series, giving up just one run to Alabama.

It was a rough start to the series against the Texas Longhorns on Friday as the Crimson Tide fell 1-0. Holding the No. 1 ranked team to just one run is a great step for Alabama, they just need to start scoring some runs. It didn’t get much better in the second game of the series.

Game 2: Alabama gets blanked again in Austin

Antoine Jean took the mound in game two. The lefty would last just five innings after giving up two runs, both earned while scattering four hits. Jean allowed one walk and struck out two of the 20 batters he faced. His counterpart Tristan Stevens also allowed four hits in six innings with four strikeouts. He combined Luke Harrison to shut out the Alabama offense and earned the three-inning save.

Jean gave up a double to Douglas Hodo III to get the Longhorns on the board as Trey Faltine came around to score in the third inning. They would score again in the fourth inning when Austin Todd drove in Ivan Melendez on an RBI single. That would be all the scoring in the game. Hunter Furtado came into the game for Jean, he retired all nine batters he faced.

Alabama had one more shot to take down Texas on Sunday.
