Alabama extends lead with a TD run from Brian Robinson Jr.

Brian Robinson Jr. extends Alabama’s lead over Mississippi State with a 1-yard touchdown run!

The Alabama fan base expressed its frustration this week over the offensive play-calling near the goal line against Texas A&M.

It looks like offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien listened as the Tide fed Brian Robinson Jr. three straight plays to extend Alabama’s lead to 21-3.

Robinson has rushed for a tough 37 yards on the night on 11 carries. Robinson’s touchdown makes for his sixth rushing touchdown of the season.

Let’s see if Bill O’Brien will continue to ride the workhorse back!

WATCH: Jordan Battle with a massive PICK SIX to extend its lead

Jordan Battle with a house call after picking off Will Rogers!

No. 5 Alabama extends its lead on the Mississippi State Bulldogs courtesy of Jordan Battle’s interception returned for a touchdown!

This is Alabama’s second interception of the contest and we are still in the first quarter.

Alabama has been willing to sacrifice the underneath routes from the Mike Leach Air Raid offense early on but has made Rogers pay when he tries to throw down the field.

The Alabama defense has started this game off with the right intensity, hopefully, they can keep this effort for the entire contest.

WATCH: Josh Jobe baits Will Rogers for an early interception!

After Mississippi State marched into field goal position on its opening drive, the Alabama defense was able to force a third and ten. Josh Jobe baited Will Rogers to come up with a big interception for the Tide.

This is Jobe’s first interception of the season.

The senior Jobe has been a steady part of the Alabama defense for the past two seasons. It is nice to see the corner get his first pick of the season.

Jobe’s pick set up Alabama’s first score of the game.

Roll Tide Wire staff predictions for Alabama vs Mississippi State

Check out the Roll Tide Wire’s staff predictions for Mississippi State!

Nick Saban is ready to lead Alabama into Starkville to get back on the right track. After a week of dealing with their first loss in 19 games, nothing but revenge is going to be on the mind of the players against Mississippi State.

Both sides of the ball need to respond in a big way. Texas A&M’s backup quarterback was able to get 41 points on what was supposed to be the strong suit of the Crimson Tide. On the flip side, Bill O’Brien was not able to help his offense punch the ball in when the game mattered most.

In their last 10 regular-season losses, Alabama is 9-1, playing against Mississippi State for the fourth time. Things have not gone in favor of the Bulldogs, losing all three contests.

From a predictions standpoint, last week was a tough one for the Roll Tide Wire staff too, with everybody predicting a large blowout in favor of Alabama. Instead, Texas A&M shocked the college football world, upsetting the No. 1 team in the country.

Have we learned from our mistakes? Apparently, not.

Check out the Roll Tide Wire’s staff predictions!

Staff predicts the game

Alabama (-16.5) Record ATS Winner Record Overall
AJ Spurr Alabama 2-1 Alabama 2-1
Griffin McVeigh Alabama 2-1 Alabama 2-1
Stacey Blackwood Alabama 1-2 Alabama 2-1
Layne Gerbig Alabama 1-2 Alabama 2-1

AJ Spurr

This game comes down to the Crimson Tide team and coaching staff making a statement. It truly does not matter what week it is nor the opponent. This team and this fanbase is not used to losing, and now that they are on the outside looking in with regards to the College Football Playoff, they need to prove they are still one of the four strongest teams in the nation.

Alabama 52, Mississippi State 14

Griffin McVeigh

Somebody not named Jameson Williams needs to step up within the receiving core. Whether it be John Metchie becoming who we thought or true freshman JoJo Earle, that’s the biggest thing I want to see against Mississippi State. Maybe feed Brian Robinson.

I like how Alabama’s defense responded in the second half against Texas A&M. It should carry over to Mississippi State, even with everybody’s favorite pirate calling plays on the other side of the field.

If last week was a win, this one would probably be a little bit closer. But Nick Saban’s teams respond to losses well. A quick business trip to Starkville should be in order.

Alabama 58, Mississippi State 10

Stacey Blackwood

I am going to keep this short and sweet. This just feels like bad timing on Mississippi State’s end. Alabama is coming off a tough loss and received what seems to be a wake-up call. Alabama will come out firing on all cylinders.

Alabama 42, Mississippi State 13

Layne Gerbig

Mississippi State has an inconsistent pass defense, so Bryce Young should be able to light them up. If Brian Robinson gets as many touches as he should, it should be a good day in terms of total offense.

I don’t think Mississippi State has the offense to put too many points up on Saturday, and their run-game leaves much to be desired. Alabama’s defense should be able to contain the Bulldogs.

5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Mississippi State

5 bold predictions for Alabama’s matchup with the Mississippi State Bulldogs!

Nick Saban and the fifth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will look to avoid back-to-back losses as they travel to Starkville to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday night.

There isn’t any doubt that the Bulldogs will bring their best effort in the hopes of upsetting the Tide, so Alabama must bring the proper focus and energy to avoid a catastrophic defeat.

With Saturday quickly approaching, I wanted to bring my five bold predictions to the table for this matchup of SEC foes.

Let’s roll!

Nick Saban confirms Drew Sanders is out for Mississippi State

Nick Saban said Drew Sanders is practicing but is not fully ready for game action yet.

Problems at the outside linebacker position across from Will Anderson have continued. After Christopher Allen went down with a foot injury for the season, Drew Sanders was supposed to be the one to step up as the replacement.

Now, Alabama will be without the sophomore for the second consecutive week. Sanders is dealing with a hand injury. Nick Saban said he is practicing but is not fully ready for game action yet.

“He’s out there in pads every day but it’s not safe for him to use his hand yet,” said Saban. So he’s not going to play this week.”

With an injury like a hand, being able to lightly practice is possible. Going full contact is where Sanders would be limited, especially at an important position on the edge.

Going into Texas A&M, Saban said Sanders was going to be “game-to-game for a few weeks.” All we can do now is wait for next week’s injury report heading into Tennessee.

Freshman Dallas Turner and sophomore Chris Braswell are still expected to pick up for the injured Sanders. The former was able to record five tackles and one tackle for loss against the Aggies.

Mississippi State will provide a different gameplan, though, with some more rotation from Turner. With how often Mike Leach is going to air it out, the pass rush will need to be subbing in and out for all four quarters. Turner may be the main guy but Braswell will get opportunities.

Alabama opens as three possession favorite over Mississippi State

We have another large spread in favor of Alabama, even with the loss.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbz6mkdd99nyvkm player_id=none image=https://rolltidewire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Well, we find ourselves with another large spread in favor of Alabama. Last week, Texas A&M not only covered but straight up won, handing the Crimson Tide its first loss in 19 games.

This weekend’s opponent is Mississippi State, who is two weeks removed from beating the same Aggie team on the road. With a bye squeezed in, surely Nick Saban will have his team lazar focused heading into Starkville.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, Alabama has opened as a 17.5 point favorite for Saturday. Being 1-2 against the spread in the SEC, Ole Miss (only home conference home game) is the only team to not cover this season.

Of Alabama’s last 10 regular-season losses, this will be the fourth time Mississippi State is the following opponent. With a 3-0 record already, the average margin of victory is 22.67.

Alabama vs Mississippi State Game Preview

Why Alabama Will Win

The offense still works.

It didn’t run the ball like it needed to late against Texas A&M, and the 153 yards overall on the ground weren’t enough, but Bryce Young and the passing game were enough to hang up 522 yards of overall total offense.

That should’ve been enough to win.

Against Mississippi State the job is simple. Be Alabama.

The Bulldogs have been inconsistent on pass defense. Oddly enough, the two losses came on two of the team’s best games of the season on third downs – on both sides of the ball – but LSU was able to hit the big play in its 28-25 win, and Memphis got the one weird punt return for a score ad was able to throw just well enough when it had to.

The Alabama passing attack is averaging over nine yards per throw with 21 touchdowns and three picks. Young wasn’t as sharp as he needed to be against A&M, but as long as he’s hitting close to 65% of his throws, he should be okay.

There’s zero Mississippi State running game to worry about, so it’s just about stopping the short-to-midrange throws and getting the D off the field. However …

Week 7 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Mississippi State Will Win

This isn’t your 2020 Mississippi State.

Last year’s offense gave the ball away for the asking. QB Will Rogers and the O have had their moments, but for the most part they’ve been able to keep the mistakes to a minimum. The biggest key, though, has been the offense’s consistency.

The Bulldogs under Mike Leach are going to throw it a bazillion times, and Rogers has been great with three touchdown passes in every game but the win over NC State – he threw two.

Even in the losses he hit more than 75% of his passes and bombed away up and down the field. He’ll get his yards, and he has to be excellent when the offense gets its chances. For all of the good things the Alabama defense has done – and it has done good things – it’s got a problem in the red zone.

Over the last four games, it’s allowed ten touchdowns in 13 trips inside the 20.

Week 7 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

The 2019 Alabama team lost to Joe Burrow and the epic LSU squad. A week later it won at Mississippi State 38-7.

In 2018, the Tide lost to Auburn, but went on to its next game to thump Clemson in the College Football Playoff on the way to the national title.

In 2015 – it’s hard to find Tide regular season losses – the team followed up a loss to Ole Miss with a 34-0 win over ULM, and it rocked Mississippi State 24-7 a week after losing to LSU 9-6 in 2011.

The blowout outlier was a 14-13 win over Arkansas in 2014 a week after losing to Ole Miss, but in general, the Tide fix the glitch whenever there is one.

2013 was the last time Bama lost back-to-back games, and that came on the Kick Six against Auburn followed up by a totally heartbroken loss to a jacked Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.

Same thing in 2008 – a brutal SEC Championship loss to Tim Tebow and Florida led to a lifeless Sugar Bowl loss to Utah in the Sugar Bowl.

The last time the University of Alabama lost back-to-back regular season games was all the way back in 2007. That was the last time the school lost to Mississippi State, too.

The Bulldogs will get a few passing yards to keep this interesting, and the better-than-you-think defense will keep this from getting out of hand, but you’re messing with history here if you think Nick Saban is about to lose two straight regular season games.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Quarterfinals of the SEC Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Mississippi State is coming off a big win over Kentucky yesterday and will look to keep that momentum going into today’s matchup with Alabama. The Tide have had a great season, going 21-6 on the year, and will look to continue that into the SEC Tournament. This should be a fun game to watch since both teams can score and this could lead to an eventual shootout.

Alabama (21-6) vs Mississippi State (15-13) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Mississippi State Will Win

Mississippi State overcame a hard second half charge by Kentucky to win 74-73 to get here. The Bulldogs couldn’t hit from three well enough, but they made 49% of their shots from the field and helped stay in it on the free throw line when things were breaking down.

They lost twice to the Tide with absolutely nothing happening from three in either game. The defense worked fine and they were able to stay in both games, and now if they can just get anything from the outside, they’ve got the ability to make this a battle.

Why Alabama Will Win

Yeah, Mississippi State can’t hit the three lately.

It’s not a bad shooting team from the outside overall, but it doesn’t take a ton of outside shots and it’s only been able to get to 40% once in the last eight games.

On the flip side, Alabama can bomb its way out of a jam or into control. They’ve taken the second-most threes of anyone in the country and made the fourth most.

Combine that with their ability to force turnovers – and Mississippi State’s problems with too many mistakes and giveaways – and that should be just enough to move on.

What’s Going To Happen

Mississippi State will be plucky.

It’s good on the inside and great on the boards, forcing Bama to hit from the outside – and that plays into the strength. The Tide won’t be perfect, but they’ll go on the scoring runs that the Bulldogs won’t.

Like the first two meetings, this will be a battle with Bama having just a wee bit more in the bag.
