Nick Saban comments on quarterbacks following final scrimmage of fall camp

Nick Saban was to the point when asked about the QBs following Saturday’s scrimmage

On Saturday from a steamy Tuscaloosa, Alabama, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] led the Alabama football team inside Bryant-Denny Stadium for its final scrimmage of fall camp 2023.

Following the scrimmage, the head coach of the Crimson Tide would spend a few minutes with the media to discuss the performance and provide a general update on fall camp. With an ongoing quarterback battle, Coach Saban was rather to the point when talking about how they performed on Saturday.

“They all got to play,” said Saban when asked what he saw from the quarterback group. “They all took snaps. They all completed some passes. They all made some throws that weren’t as good as they should have been. And they all got sacked. That’s what I saw.”

At first glance, it may seem to not be all that telling, but if you take a deeper look, it appears Saban is simply saying that nothing happened on Saturday to cause a major shift in the competition.

Obviously, there is still some time left in camp plus a week of practice leading up to MTSU, but for now, we have to assume no one will know who the starter is until kickoff on Sept. 2.

South Carolina’s Shane Beamer offers high praise of Alabama QB Tyler Buchner

Shane Beamer refers to Tyler Buchner as a ‘gamer’ when asked about him at the 2023 SEC media days.

The 2023 SEC media days have come and gone and that means fall camp will begin in just a couple of weeks for most college football programs.

When Nick Saban and the Alabama football team begin camp, one question will rise above the rest, who will be the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback? The competition will between Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, and Tyler Buchner will most likely keep Tide fans and college football analysts guessing right up until kickoff against Middle Tennesee State on Sept. 2.

On Thursday, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer was asked about Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner since Buchner was the guy who helped the Fighting Irish defeat the Beamer’s Gamecocks in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl 45-38.

Of Buchner Coach Beamer had the following to say:

“Really talented, athletic, gamer. I remember seeing him right after the game – I finished my press conference and he was out in the hallway, getting ready to go in for their press conference. I just told him, ‘Heck of a performance, great respect for you.’ He made some really good throws in that game, as well, and just a guy that you could tell his teammates had great respect for him and rallied around him and certainly a guy they had a lot of confidence in at Notre Dame.”

Buchner put up what I would call an interesting performance against the Gamecocks where he scored five total touchdowns and accounted for 334 total yards but also had three turnovers in the contest.

It’s hard to tell if that was just “coach speak” from Coach Beamer but I do think it’s important to note that Beamer is better known for telling it like it is than being cliche.

We’ll know soon enough just how much of a “gamer” Buchner is as we are now just about six weeks away from kickoff.

5 reasons why Alabama fans should not worry about the QB battle

Quarterback battles always bring out the worst in fans, here are five reasons why Alabama fans should not worry about the one in Tuscaloosa.

One of the biggest storylines of the 2023 college football offseason is the ongoing quarterback battle in Tuscaloosa.

Will it be Jalen Milore, Ty Simpson, or recent Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner that takes over the reins of the Crimson Tide offense following the departure of former Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young?

While that question likely won’t be answered before the Tide begins its season on Sept 2. against Middle Tennessee State, I believe it is time for fans to pump the panic brakes.

After all, this is nothing new. Quarterback battles have happened numerous times in Tuscaloosa and things always seem to work out. So to hopefully help with your anxious curiosity, I have put together a list of five reasons why Alabama fans should not worry about the ongoing quarterback battle at the Capstone!

Alabama’s A-Day game ranked among this season’s most intriguing spring games

The competition between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simspon at quarterback makes Alabama’s A-Day game among the most intriguing this season.

We are now just a little under three weeks away from [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football team concluding spring practice with the annual A-Day game inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

As is the case with every new season, the Crimson Tide fan base is ready to see the next crop of talent take the field for the Tide.

247Sports article written by Will Backus listed the spring games with the most interest in 2023 and Alabama’s A-Day game made the cut.

Backus had the following to say about the Crimson Tide’s upcoming scrimmage.

“Like Ohio State, Alabama has a gaping hole to fill at the quarterback position. If Stroud is not first off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft, then Bryce Young probably will be. He won a Heisman Trophy while leading the Crimson Tide to 23 wins, a College Football Playoff appearance and an SEC championship. Young actually missed one game last season, which allowed fans to see one of his potential replacements in Jalen Milroe, who threw for three touchdowns and one interception but looked far from a complete product. Seeing how he has progressed will be key in the spring game. “A-Day” will also provide a look at redshirt freshman Ty Simpson, a former five-star prospect that could very well push Milroe for the job.”

While the battle between Milroe and Simpson will certainly highlight the spring game, there are plenty of other position battles that Alabama fans should monitor over the coming weeks. Offensive line, linebacker, and defensive backs are some of the other key position groups that will headline the A-Day game.

A-Day is scheduled for April 22 at 2:00 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Nick Saban weighs in on ongoing QB battle between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson

Nick Saban updates the ongoing Alabama QB competition between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson!

The Alabama football team is in the middle of its second week of spring practice and positional competition is taking place throughout the team. The quarterback competition between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson has certainly taken center stage in Tuscaloosa.

On Wednesday, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban joined Heather Dinich for an interview on ESPN. With the ongoing quarterback battle, coach Saban was quickly asked about the competition.

“Well, both of the guys are working hard. The most important thing is that they can stay focused on what they need to do to improve their ability to play winning football at the position.

Which, is an important position because they distribute the ball to someone every play. So, it’s an important position. They’re both guys that have talent and we just have to try to help them develop and focus on the things they need to do to play winning football.”

While coach Saban is likely to allow this battle to play out until kickoff against Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 2, he will most definitely be looking for both Milroe and Simpson to show continuous improvement in the coming months.
