Tennessee will next play at Kentucky for a three-game series Thursday-Saturday.
The Vols have Southeastern Conference regular season series remaining at Kentucky, versus Georgia and at Mississippi State.
Tennessee has Southeastern Conference series sweeps against South Carolina, at Ole Miss, at Vanderbilt, versus Missouri and at Florida this season. The Vols won two of three games in series against Alabama and Auburn.
2022 NFL draft: One quarterback in every round for the Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles organization fancies itself as something of a quarterback factory, and with Howie Roseman drafting a quarterback every other year since taking over in Philadelphia, the 2022 selection process offers another opportunity for development.
The Eagles have Gardner Minshew as the primary backup to Jalen Hurts, and Reid Sinnett is a promising developmental prospect as well.
If Philadelphia stands pat with Minshew and views Sinnett as a player to develop, then this month’s draft could be centered on surrounding Hurts and Jonathan Gannon with the proper pieces for improvement.
The 2022 NFL draft class is a wide-open race at quarterback, and Alabama A&M’s Aqeel Glass deserves more attention
The first few weeks of the 2021 college football season has left more questions than answers about this year’s quarterback class.
The biggest names have been inconsistent at best, with the likes of Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, North Carolina’s Sam Howell and others failing to live up to the preseason hype of being potential No. 1 overall picks.
This year’s wide-open race has left the door open for anyone to emerge, and that being the case, NFL teams and fans alike would be wise to turn their attention to Alabama A&M’s Aqeel Glass.
Back in June, Glass was named the Spring 2021 Black College Football Player of the Year, earning him the Deacon Jones Trophy after leading the Bulldogs to a 5-0 record and their first SWAC title in 15 years. He also took home conference player of the year honors.
Listed at 6-5, 215 pounds, Glass obviously has the prototypical frame of an NFL quarterback. He’s also got the arm talent, instincts and intelligence to go with it.
Glass’ impressive performance against Jackson State back in April was a prime example of everything that makes him a promising NFL prospect:
Watch that game, and you’ll see Glass make every play an NFL quarterback needs to make. He can fire bullet passes into tight windows, put the right amount of touch on throws to every level of the field, drive the deep ball downfield (both inside and outside the numbers), beat both zone and man coverage with sound decision-making and consistent accuracy, and show patience and poise under pressure, particularly when screens are developing and unblocked rushers are bearing down on him.
He may not be the fastest quarterback in the class, but his mobility was also on display in that game, proving he won’t just be a statue in the pocket at the next level.
Glass earned the starting job as a freshman, and he’s still holding it down as a grad student. He’ll have a track record of starting experience that will be unrivaled in the class, with plenty of proven success to go along with it.
This lackluster quarterback class is begging for someone to emerge and declare themselves the most compelling prospect of the year. While many will remain focused on the bigger names from powerhouse FBS programs, Glass will keep doing what he’s always done for the Bulldogs, and could end up making one NFL team extremely happy when they land him next April.
An Ohio State spokesman has confirmed that the men’s basketball game against Alabama A&M has been canceled because of COVID-19 concerns.
The Ohio State basketball team has gotten off to a 3-0 start this year, but it’s shot at remaining undefeated and improving to 4-0 will have to wait. The Buckeyes were supposed to take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Saturday, but that game has been canceled because of COVID-19 concerns.
According to a release from an Ohio State spokesman, the move was made after the Alabama A&M program shared the results of its COVID-19 testing.
“The Ohio State Department of Athletics, in alignment with COVID-19 testing and protocols for non-conference opponents, has canceled the men’s basketball game against Alabama A&M University scheduled for tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. at the Jerome Schottenstein Center,” said an OSU spokesman. “The decision was made out of an abundance of caution and with the welfare of the student-athletes, coaches and event staff in mind after Alabama A&M shared results of its most recent testing.”
We must stress that this appears to be an issue with the visiting team and not any concerns associated with any testing within the Ohio State program. We wish the players and staff of Alabama A&M health and safety as they deal with the fallout of this pandemic that can’t end soon enough.
Ohio State is next scheduled to travel to Notre Dame next Tuesday as a part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Notre Dame hasn’t won two in a row since beating Alabama A&M on Dec. 29 and Syracuse on Jan. 4. After defeating Wake Forest on Wednesday, the Irish (12-8, 3-6) will try to start a new winning streak against Georgia Tech (10-11, 4-6) on Saturday. It will be the middle of a three-game homestand for the Irish.
This will be the first game in which T.J. Gibbs enters action as the Irish’s all-time leading scorer in regular-season ACC games. It took him 61 games to score 761 points, 11 games fewer than it took Steve Vasturia, the previous record-holder, to reach his mark of 739.
While Notre Dame will look to improve its ACC record Saturday, it also will be a day for celebration. Kelly Tripucka, who scored 1,719 points over his Irish career, will be inducted into the Purcell Pavilion Ring of Honor at halftime. Tripucka will be the ninth person to receive the highest honor the program can bestow upon a former student-athlete or coach.

The real season for Notre Dame (9-4, 0-2) starts Saturday at Syracuse (8-5, 1-1) as the ACC schedule returns and won’t stop for the rest of the regular season. After that, we’ll know where the Irish stand as far as postseason aspirations. But let’s not put the cart before the horse.
The Irish enter this game first in the ACC and third nationally in assists at 18.2 a game. With 23 assists in their Dec. 29 win over Alabama A&M, they recorded their fourth game this season with at least 20 dimes. They also have committed the fewest fouls a game in the country (11.6), so the Orange and the rest of the ACC will have to make the most of the few free-throw opportunities available.
John Mooney, the nation’s top rebounder at 10.3 boards a game, needs only eight rebounds to reach 700 for his career. With seven consecutive double-doubles and 10 for the season to tie for the most in the country, Mooney should be able to get to this milestone quickly.

As if there was any concern about its final game before the New Year and the rest of its ACC schedule, Notre Dame led wire-to-wire in an 82-56 win over Alabama A&M on Sunday at Purcell Pavilion. Five players scored in double figures for the Irish (9-4) while the Bulldogs (3-8) never recovered from a first half in which they shot 7 of 36 from the field (19.4 percent).
T.J. Gibbs had a 7-of-10 shooting performance while leading all scorers with 17 points. John Mooney pulled down his latest double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds. Dane Goodwin scored 12 off the bench, and 11 points each came from Juwan Durham and Prentiss Gibbs. Durham went to the locker room after suffering a sprained left knee on a rebound but returned to the bench before the game was over.
Notre Dame finishes its nonconference schedule at 9-2. The slate that will determine whether it goes dancing in March begins Saturday with a trip to Syracuse. A win would get the Irish back on the right track after earlier ACC losses to North Carolina and Boston College.

Exactly 24 hours after the Notre Dame football team kicks off in the Camping World Bowl, the men’s basketball team will return from a week-long holiday break by taking on Alabama A&M for the very first time at Purcell Pavilion. The Bulldogs are the first SWAC team to visit South Bend since Grambling in 2014.
The Irish enter their final nonconference game of the season having lost three of their past five contests, most recently a tough Crossroads Classic defeat to Indiana. Look for them to rely on their two-way play once again. John Mooney has been the leader there with nine double-doubles in 11 games, but Nate Laszewski is coming off the first double-double of his collegiate career, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds as a substitute in the Indiana loss.
The Irish have taken better care of the ball lately, averaging 7.5 rebounds over their past two games after coughing it up at least 10 times in five of their previous six. It’s progress, but a trend that will have to continue as the remainder of the ACC schedule awaits.
