Giants work out Adam Humphries, several others

The New York Giants worked out WR Adam Humphries and a couple others in East Rutherford on Monday afternoon.

The New York Giants remain scheduled to meet with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this Thursday and Friday, but that didn’t stop them from working out several other players on Monday.

Three free agents worked out in East Rutherford, including veteran wide receiver Adam Humphries.

The 29-year-old Humphries was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie out of Clemson in 2015. After four years with the Bucs, he joined the Tennessee Titans in 2019 and spent two seasons there. He last played for the Washington Commanders in 2021.

In 96 career games (36 starts), Humphries has hauled in 320 receptions for 3,314 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Along with Humphries, the Giants also worked out wide receiver Malik Taylor and quarterback Kaleb Eleby, a rookie who was recently selected by the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL draft.

None of the three were immediately signed to a contract.

Seahawks: 12 takeaways from their 2022 rookie minicamp

The Seattle Seahawks wrapped up their 2022 rookie minicamp on Mother’s Day.

The Seattle Seahawks wrapped up their 2022 rookie minicamp on Mother’s Day, completing three days of drills and workouts for some of the youngest players on their roster plus a number of tryout guys.

Here are a few takeaways from over the weekend from both the team itself and the media.

One QB for the Eagles in every round of 2022 NFL Draft

2022 NFL draft: One quarterback in every round for the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles organization fancies itself as something of a quarterback factory, and with Howie Roseman drafting a quarterback every other year since taking over in Philadelphia, the 2022 selection process offers another opportunity for development.

The Eagles have Gardner Minshew as the primary backup to Jalen Hurts, and Reid Sinnett is a promising developmental prospect as well.

If Philadelphia stands pat with Minshew and views Sinnett as a player to develop, then this month’s draft could be centered on surrounding Hurts and Jonathan Gannon with the proper pieces for improvement.

Howie Roseman has been doing his due diligence on 2022 signal callers and has a top-30 visit scheduled with Ole Miss star Matt Corral.

If Minshew does eventually get moved, here’s one quarterback in every round for the Eagles to consider.

Lions 2022 NFL draft: A quarterback for every round

Presenting a QB option in each round for the Lions in the 2022 NFL draft

With the 2022 NFL draft rapidly approaching, it’s time to break down what the Detroit Lions can do with their picks in April’s selection process. Instead of another mock draft, this series will break down positional prospects at each position that project to be available to Detroit GM Brad Holmes to consider in each of the draft’s seven rounds.

First up: The quarterbacks.

The purpose here isn’t to advocate for or against any specific player. This is about presenting the options that are likely available to the Lions (and other NFL teams) at the position in each round. We’ll go through the options at each position, and we’ll also include projections for the fourth round, where the Lions do not currently hold a pick.

Lions check out Skyy Moore, Kaleb Eleby at Western Michigan pro day

Western Michigan has a few prospects that could interest the Lions in the 2022 NFL draft class

Even with the free agent frenzy kicking off on Monday, the Detroit Lions continued to do their due diligence for the 2022 NFL draft. The Lions had multiple personnel on the scene in Kalamazoo for Western Michigan’s pro day for Broncos prospects.

Western Michigan has two prominent prospects for 2022: WR Skyy Moore and QB Kaleb Eleby. Moore is a 5-11 dynamo who can play inside or outside. He did not work out, choosing to keep his NFL scouting combine workout numbers. But Moore did run routes and catch passes from Eleby.

The quarterback did do workout drills, unofficially timed at 4.84 by one scout in attendance in the 40-yard dash. His exit velocity on throws stood out, and the passing drills reinforced the strong accuracy he showed on game tape.

Moore is generally projected in the second or third round, while Eleby gets slotted a couple of rounds later.

Two other Broncos to watch for Lions fans are likely undrafted free agents. EDGE Ali Fayad bagged 13 sacks in 2022 and has some good finishing power. He weighed in at just 248 pounds and did not have a great workout, however (32-inch vertical, 4.82 40-yard dash per one scout).

Offensive lineman Mike Caliendo was a five-year starter with experience at both guard and center. He thrived during the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and has the intelligence and strength in the run game to merit a priority free agency look from Detroit.

QB takeaways from Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine

Mark Schofield shares some of his takeaways from a few different quarterbacks as they addressed the media in Indianapolis.

The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine truly got underway Wednesday morning, with draft prospects at a few different positions meeting with the assembled media in Indianapolis.

Cue the endless barrage of questions about whether a given prospect had met with a specific team yet…

With quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends taking to the podiums, there were plenty of questions and answers to go around. Still, as we all know quarterbacks tend to move the needle. And with many questions surrounding this quarterback class serving as an undercurrent to the discussions being had in Indianapolis, here are some takeaways from a few different podium sessions.

Browns mock draft watch: Pro Football Network mocks full seven rounds

Browns mock draft watch: Pro Football Network mocks full seven rounds broken down by our @joshkeatley16 #Browns

Well this weekend was not ideal as the Cincinnati Bengals took the Kansas City Chiefs to bed and are now heading to the Super Bowl. Obviously the AFC North is getting better and Joe Burrow and the Bengals are going to be hard to beat, but the Cleveland Browns will have an opportunity to improve with the 13th pick in the NFL Draft and a front office ready to make this team better.

The lovely people at Pro Football Network have been gracious enough to publish a seven round mock draft and I wanted to breakdown who they selected and who I thought maybe a better option.

Cleveland Browns seven round mock draft simulation reviewed 2.0

Our guy @JoshKeatley16 did two simulations, allowing the computer to pick for the Browns, and reviewed the selections. Here is the second:

It may be the end of the Cleveland Browns football season, but it is just the beginning of draft season and I love me some draft hype. We here at Browns Wire are trying to do our best to provide out reactions to the most popular mock drafts being published by some of our favorite pundits, but most of them just supply the first round or if we are lucky the first three rounds, but if you are like me, you need more.

Our friends at The Draft Network have a wonderful mock draft simulator tool and I was curious to see what they had the Browns select. This will be the second time we have run this exercise and it has surprisingly turned out some different results. Just like last time, the first slide will be The Draft Network (TDN) selection and the second will be my preference.

Perfect mid/late-round QB fits for Eagles in 2022 NFL draft

Jalen Hurts is firmly entrenched as #FlyEaglesFly starting signal-caller but the QB factory must continue and so we’ve listed the perfect mid/late-round QB fits for the #Eagles in the #NFLDraft #NFLDraft2022

Jalen Hurts has done enough to warrant becoming the Eagles franchise quarterback going forward, so the 2022 NFL Draft process should be all about surrounding the dual-threat passer with weapons on both sides of the ball.

Philadelphia considers itself a quarterback factory, so even as the organization appears comfortable moving on with Hurts, Howie Roseman is still likely to add a young signal-caller during the draft process.

Gardner Minshew wants to be a starter and could be the subject of trades talks in March, while Reid Sinnett could remain on the roster and be subjected to waivers in a salary-cap move.

If Roseman does target a quarterback in the draft, the hope is that Philadelphia’s general manager has learned from the Carson Wentz saga, and will instead look to the mid or late rounds for his next project or asset.

Here are several mid to late-round quarterback prospects that the Eagles could look to target.

Western Michigan QB Kaleb Eleby declares for NFL draft, possible middle-round Lions target

Eleby is a potential middle-round draft target for the Detroit Lions

There is another quarterback in the 2022 NFL draft player pool, one that the Detroit Lions might want to consider in the middle rounds. Kaleb Eleby from Western Michigan announced on social media he is forgoing his final season of eligibility and entering the draft.

Eleby played four years for the Broncos and was the team’s starter for the last two, as well as a handful of games in his freshman season. The 6-foot-1, 201-pounder has proven successful in a pro-style passing offense. His arm strength and ability to deliver anticipatory throws outside the numbers stand out.

He’s more battle-tested than a lot of Mid-American Conference QBs, playing reasonably well in an early-season loss to Michigan before leading the Broncos to a massive upset win in Pittsburgh over Kenny Pickett and the Panthers. In that game, Eleby threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns while consistently hitting the right read.

He’s not a great running threat but does show the ability to buy himself time and understand his escape routes. The biggest knock to stick on Eleby is that he sometimes throws shorter routes with poor touch, notably on checkdowns where he might be a count late in delivering it — think Carson Wentz in that regard.

Eleby is an intriguing prospect for a team like the Detroit Lions, one not necessarily looking for an immediate starter but rather a player with tools to develop for a year or two behind an established starter like Jared Goff.
