Al Walcott headed to Buffalo for training camp with Bills

Walcott was a star at Baylor and while he didn’t duplicate those numbers at Arkansas, the Hogs’ pass defense was still great with him at the back.

Alfahiym Walcott is trading the Natural and Lone Star states for western New York.

At least it’s almost summertime.

Walcott, the former safety for Arkansas and Baylor, receive an invitation to attend training camp for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. He is one of six who played the 2024 season with the Razorbacks who were invited to such camps. Another two former Arkansas players, Beaux Limmer and Cam Little, were drafted.

Walcott finished fourth on the team with 56 tackles and had three interceptions, including one for a touchdown. Arkansas’ pass defense was one of the best in the country with Walcott teaming at the back with Jayden Johnson. The Hogs allowed just 202.8 yards per game, ranking 32nd in FBS.

Before transferring to Fayetteville, Walcott played three seasons with the Bears. He logged 82 tackles, including 10 for-loss with three forced fumbles in his final season in Waco. Arkansas used him in a different way.

Two different Razorbacks earn SEC honors after Arkansas’ win over FIU

Augustave is young. Walcott is old. The duo was dynamite for Arkansas on Saturday.

Isaiah Augustave may not only be the future, but the present. Alfahiym Walcott is and has been plenty present.

The two Arkansas football players – Augustave, a freshman running back and Walcott, a senior safety – were named SEC Players of the Week on Monday after their performances against Florida International.

Augustave was named SEC Freshman of the Week. He ran for 101 yards on 14 carries as Arkansas ran for a season-high 323 yards on the ground. The freshman had only carried the ball in two games before, which means the possibility of this first season remaining redshirt.

Walcott garnered SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors after logging five tackles and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. The score was Arkansas’ fifth of the year by the defense, ranking tops in FBS.

Arkansas is set for its final game of the season Friday when Missouri visits on Senior Day.

Check out Alfahiym Walcott’s incredible strip and return for touchdown

Walcott straight tore the ball out of the FIU receiver’s hands and took it the other way for a score.

A slow-ish start for Arkansas turned on a dime in the second quarter.

Three plays after KJ Jefferson’s touchdown pass to Tyrone Broden gave the Razorbacks the lead against Florida International, Arkansas added to it.

Arkansas safety Al Walcott ripped the ball from the hands of FIU wide receiver Dean Patterson at the Panthers’ 33 and took the ball back the other way for a touchdown, giving the Hogs a 21-13 lead with 10:53 left.

Walcott, in his first year with Arkansas after transferring from Baylor, entered the game fourth on the team in tackles with 50 and had one interception. The touchdown was his first.

Arkansas entered the game as four-touchdown favorites, but hasn’t won at home since Week 2.

Arkansas at Florida: Players To Watch on Saturday

Arkansas will try to snap its six-game losing streak Saturday in the Swamp.

Reeling from a six-game losing streak, Arkansas (2-6, 0-5 SEC) will have a new play-caller to replace the ousted Dan Enos, as wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton was elevated to offensive coordinator following the Hogs’ 7-3 Homecoming loss to Mississippi State on Oct. 21.

It will be the former Ohio State quarterback’s first shot at coordinating at the Division I level, but the team seems to have embraced the change over the recent bye week. After Guiton spent four seasons under former Arkansas OC Kendall Briles, it is likely that the offense will revert, and look similar to what it has the previous three seasons.

Quarterback KJ Jefferson will probably have more freedom to improvise at a faster tempo, and should get a boost by the probable return of All-SEC running back Raheim “Rocket” Sanders to the backfield.

Florida (5-3, 3-2 SEC) has split its last four games and is coming off of a 43-20 loss to No. 1 Georgia, but has ridden the arm of junior quarterback Graham Mertz all season long.

Here are 11 players to watch in Saturday’s showdown in Gainesville:

Arkansas vs. Mississippi State – Players of the Game: Cam Little and…???

When your kicker and punter are your two best players, something’s wrong. Something’s wrong at Arkansas.

Kicking is kind of offense, right?

For the second straight week, the only Arkansas football player who did any significant damage with the ball was kicker Cam Little. The Razorbacks’ offense was atrocious against Mississippi State on Saturday as the Hogs provided the Bulldogs with their first SEC, 7-3, on Saturday.

Arkansas had 200 yards of total offense and scored only on its first series of the game. Even that likely wouldn’t have come had Mississippi State not thrown an interception in its own territory, allowing Arkansas to start within a legitimate scoring distance.

Whether its the offensive line that gave up another four sacks, the wide receiving corps that averaged barely five yards per catch or the running game’s 103 total yards on the ground, Arkansas’ biggest problems on offense are many to choose from.

A shame, too, considering Arkansas’ defense was dynamite yet again, making that side of the ball’s Player of the Game selection a bit tougher.

At any rate, here are our picks for the best Hogs on the day from editor E. Wayne and contributors Steve Andrews, Derek Oxford and Connor Goodson.

Who are the new faces who will take part in Arkansas’ spring game Saturday?

Twenty-one players who were not on the Arkansas roster last year will take part in the Hogs’ spring game Saturday. Let’s examine them.

Attendees for Arkansas’ spring game Saturday will need an old-school program to identify all the new faces on the Razorbacks roster.

The Hogs will cap their spring football season with the scrimmage from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium where only 46 players from last year’s roster return. The transfer portal brought in several new projected starters and loads of freshmen enrolled early and have gone through drills and practice in the semester.

And while more will arrive in the summertime, fans will get their first look at the bulk of the new players Saturday. The defensive backfield, offensive line and wide receiving corps, especially, will showcase some unfamiliar faces.

The returners have plenty to bring, too. Quarterback KJ Jefferson and running back Rocket Sanders will show off their improvements alongside the newcomers.

Let’s take a look at the latter who should take part in the spring capper.

Florida football to host these 6 transfer portal targets this weekend

Take a look at the transfer portal targets who will be in the 352 this weekend.

Florida football suffered its second-straight losing season in 2022 despite the addition of [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his army of staffers in place of former head coach [autotag]Dan Mullen[/autotag]. It appears that the new regime has a heck of a hole to dig itself out of on the path to restoring glory to the Orange and Blue.

One of the most pivotal areas of program improvement these past few years has been the NCAA transfer portal, which has become something of a de facto free agency system for amateur athletes. It is here that the future of football can be found, especially with the additional eligibility granted due to COVID.

The Gators will spend the first full weekend of 2023 hosting a half-dozen highly-sought transfers on campus — including one who has already made a hard commitment to Napier and Co. Take a look below at who will be making the trek to Gainesville over the next few days.

Oklahoma vs. Baylor: 4 Bears to know ahead of Saturday’s showdown

Ahead of Oklahoma’s Saturday afternoon showdown with Baylor, here are four Bears to know. From @thatmanbryant

Oklahoma has become quite familiar with their yearly tussles with the Baylor Bears. Whether it was Matt Rhule at the helm or now Dave Aranda, the Bears have provided a tough contest yearly. Games against Baylor haven’t been lopsided affairs in favor of Oklahoma for years now.

In 2019, Oklahoma had to come back from a 28-3 deficit to pick up the win. Later that year, in the Big 12 championship game, it was a one-score win for Jalen Hurts’ Sooners. In 2020, Spencer Rattler’s won 27-14, but it wasn’t an easy 13-point win, and then last year, Baylor handed the Sooners their first loss of the season.

On Saturday, they’ll duke it out once again.

This time the showdown will feature two defensive-minded head coaches, Brent Venables and Dave Aranda, doing battle in a conference that has long been lauded for its offensive prowess.

Last year’s Baylor team manhandled Oklahoma at the point of attack on both sides of the ball. Baylor could look to employ the same approach. However, their personnel this year is different than before. Guys like Jalen Pitre, Terrel Bernard, Abram Smith, Trestan Ebner, Tyquan Thornton, and Gerry Bohannon are no longer on the roster. They are relying on some other faces to step up and make plays.

Here are four Baylor players to know ahead of the showdown.
