Rutgers basketball is at the USA Basketball Junior National Team camp in Denver

Rutgers basketball was at the USA Basketball event over the weekend.

Rutgers basketball is pulling out all the stops to land Dylan Harper, including sending assistant coach Brandin Knight out to Colorado this weekend for the USA Basketball Junior National Team event.

Harper, along with five-star forward Airious Bailey (a Rutgers basketball commit) are at the event.

Knight, the associate head coach at Rutgers, is one of the top assistants in not only the Big Ten but all of college basketball.

At the event in Colorado, Knight was flanked by coaches from Duke and Kansas among other top college programs. Harper, who was recently named the top player in the country by On3, is the obvious big draw.

A guard out of Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), Harper remains uncommitted. Duke, Kansas, Indiana and Rutgers are all in the mix for the five-star player.

He is the complete package, with the ability to put the ball on the floor, score in a variety of ways, rebound and is solid defensively.

Bailey, who committed to Rutgers in January, is the highest-ranked verbal in program history. He has made it clear that the hopes Harper joins him in New Jersey at Rutgers:

The scoop about the presence of Knight at the event came from Matt Whitfield, a contributor to ZagsBlog. Whitfield is best known for his scoop that Ryan Arcidiacono was committing to Villanova.

Harper has long been linked to Rutgers, given that his brother is Ron Harper Jr., who is currently on a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors.

Four-star center Lathan Sommerville picks Rutgers basketball: ‘I’m 100 percent committed’

Lathan Sommerville picked Rutgers basketball on Friday.

Rutgers basketball landed a huge commitment on Friday afternoon with the addition of Lathan Sommerville.

A four-star according to Rivals and the No. 92 player in the nation, Sommerville is a 6-foot-10 center who controls the paint well and is strong defensively. He is aggressive and the consummate team player.

The class of 2024 recruit plays for the Skill Factory in Atlanta, GA.

He picked from a group of finalists that included Bradley and Missouri. Sommerville also held offers from Georgia Tech, Seton Hall, Wake Forest, Villanova, Virginia Tech and Xavier among others.

“I just felt that Rutgers is a great fit and the school for me,” Sommerville told Rutgers Wire. “So there was no need to lead other schools on.”

The decision he said, is final.

“I’m 100 percent committed,” Sommerville said.

In February, Sommerville took an official visit to Rutgers, a trip that helped the Scarlet Knights solidify themselves atop his recruitment.

Sommerville joins a strong recruiting class that includes four-star guard [autotag]Dellquan Warren[/autotag] and five-star forward [autotag]Airious Bailey[/autotag]. His decision to choose the Big Ten program came from his comfort level with the coaching staff and the environment around the team.

“I believe Rutgers is the best fit for me because they adjust to their players and nothing is promised there,” Sommerville said. “I love and trust the coaches so that made it even easier.”

The 2024 recruiting class for Rutgers has a chance to finish atop the national rankings for the first time in program history.

Rutgers basketball: With a decision on Friday, what schools are in four-star Lathan Somerville’s top three?

Lathan Sommerville is set to make a college announcement on Friday.

Friday has the potential to be a huge day for Rutgers men’s basketball with Lathan Sommerville set to announce his college decision early in the afternoon.

Sommerville tells Rutgers Wire that he is down to three schools ahead of Friday’s announcement: Bradley, Missouri and Rutgers. A 6-foot-10 center, Sommerville is a product from Atlanta’s Skill Factory Prep. He is a four-star recruit who is ranked the No. 92 player in the nation by Rivals.

Were Sommerville to commit to Rutgers on Friday, it would give their 2024 recruiting class three players in the top 100, all of whom are four stars. That is something that the Scarlet Knights have never achieved as a program.

“Me and my family just felt the time was right and it will allow me to just focus on hooping,” Sommerville told Rutgers Wire on Thursday night.

Rutgers currently has two recruits committed to the 2024 recruiting class: [autotag]Dellquan Warren[/autotag] (a four-star guard) and [autotag]Airious Bailey[/autotag] (a five-star forward). Also, Dylan Harper, a five-star guard from New Jersey, has Rutgers in the mix as his recruitment heads towards a likely summer commitment.

As for Sommerville, his status with Rutgers appears to be a solid one. In March, he broke down where the Big Ten program stands in his recruitment.

“Rutgers is a great place from the staff to the fans – a lot of great people in the organization and they get their players better and prepared for the next level,” Sommerville told Rutgers Wire in a March interview.

“They also have that winning culture and competitive nature that I really like.”

High School Basketball: Counting down the top 24 recruits in the class of 2024

Here is every five-star rating player in the class.

It’s still early in the game, but let’s take a look ahead at the top high school basketball prospects in the recruiting class of 2024. Here is every composite five-star rating in the class. As it happens, there are 24 of them.

Which five-star recruit is calling and texting Dylan Harper to join him?

Dylan Harper is being heavily recruited by a fellow five-star recruit.

Five-star guard Dylan Harper is one of the best players in the class of 2024, and the New Jersey guard is being recruited by another five-star to come join him in the Big Ten. That player?

[autotag]Airious Bailey[/autotag], a five-star commit to Rutgers basketball.

Having committed to Rutgers earlier this year, Bailey is the highest-ranked verbal in program history. The standout from Georgia is the No. 15 player in the nation according to 247Sports.

Harper is the second-best player in the nation and has a top five that includes Rutgers basketball. Over the weekend during the USA Basketball Mini Camp in Houston, he spoke with 247Sports about the five schools that are recruiting him when Bailey interrupted their interview.

The conversation shifted to Bailey, who appears to be recruiting Harper to Rutgers:

“He’s always calling me, texting me, DM’ing me all the time,” Harper said of Bailey in his conversation with 247 Sports. “He is telling me we can win a ‘natty’ [National Championship] together and I really believe we could. I am really going to take that into thought.”

There are currently two commits to the 2024 recruiting class for Rutgers basketball. The aforementioned Bailey is a huge piece for the Big Ten program’s future. [autotag]Dellquan Warren[/autotag], a four-star guard and a top-75 recruit, committed to Rutgers in late December.

Five-star SF to officially visit Auburn for Penn State game

Airious “Ace” Bailey, the No. 8 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, will be in attendance for Auburn vs. Penn State.

One of the best basketball players in the 2024 recruiting class is taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend, according to Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live.

[autotag]Airious Bailey[/autotag], who will be making his second visit to Auburn this year, is ranked as the No. 1 small forward and No. 8 overall recruit in the country in the 247Sports Composite ranking.

The 6-foot-9, 185-pound Bailey’s first visited the Plains on Jan. 8 when he unofficially visited. He attends McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, and is nicknamed “Ace.”

As expected with a five-star prospect, Bailey has a tremendous amount of potential but is not a finished product. He will be a recruit to watch over the coming months and cold be the next elite recruit that [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] is able to reel in.
