Seahawks dead cap: These 12 players account for over $10 million

Seahawks dead cap: These 12 players account for over $10 million.

The Seattle Seahawks are in a rare position heading into Week 11. At 3-6 their chances of making the playoffs are grim (16%) even with an extra seed this year. It’s impossible to count them out once Russell Wilson gets healthy and back up to full speed. However, it’s also time to start thinking about the future and how to improve this roster next year via free agency and the draft. The good news is the team’s salary cap situation isn’t too bad.

Here is a review of the team’s dead cap hits for 2021. All salary numbers are courtesy of Over the Cap.

Seahawks deal CB Ahkello Witherspoon to Steelers for a fifth-round pick

Now, they’re sending Ahkello Witherspoon to the Steelers for a fifth-round draft pick, according to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

The Seahawks have now pulled off three cornerback trades in the last week. First, they acquired (then later waived) John Reid from the Texans, then they picked up Sidney Jones from the Jaguars.

Now, they’re sending Ahkello Witherspoon to the Steelers for a fifth-round draft pick, according to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

Witherspoon spent the first four seasons of his career with the 49ers. In 47 games, he posted four interceptions, 24 pass breakups and 117 tackles.

The move saves Seattle $1.5 million in 2021 cap space.

The team may not be done yet, either. According to Adam Jude at the Seattle Times, the Seahawks are still active in the cornerback market.

Clearly, the Seahawks aren’t too happy with the crop of corners they’ve had most of this offseason. If they’re looking for a solution in free agency, the most logical and also the best available option is Richard Sherman, despite his off-field issues.

Best remaining free agent fits at positions of need for Colts

Who are the best fits for the Colts after the first wave of free agency?

As expected the Indianapolis Colts were quiet on the first day of the legal tampering period, which saw several teams go wild scooping up big names on the market.

The Colts, as they have for the last four offseasons, remained quiet as they look for value during the second wave of free agency. They don’t aggressively look for long-term solutions in free agency but instead look to fill gaps in the roster.

Be sure to stay up on the latest news with our free agency tracker for the Colts.

As the first wave of free agency thinned out the crowd, here are the best remaining free agents at each position of need for the Colts:

3 under-the-radar free agents Colts could sign

Under-the-radar FAs for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts got through the first wave of free agency without making a move, which was to be expected,

Chris Ballard has a good history of signing some low-risk free agents and turning them into high-value guys. Think Justin Houston, Xavier Rhodes and Eric Ebron. With the biggest hole filled, for now, with the Carson Wentz trade, Ballard will look to address needs at left tackle, edge, and wide receiver.

Be sure to stay up to date and follow Colts free agency with our tracker detailing every move.

Here are three under-the-radar free agents Ballard and the Colts could look to sign in this year’s free agency.

NFL free agency: Best fits for Colts at positions of need in 2021

Best fits for Indy in free agency

In exactly one month, the new league year will officially arrive, and the Indianapolis Colts will enter the free-agent market hoping to address some very serious needs during the 2021 offseason.

With an abundance of salary-cap space—roughly $69 million projected—the Colts can go get any player they want on the market. They won’t necessarily do that with some big extensions coming up, but the Colts will still have the ability to spend if they want to.

When talking about the best fit, it doesn’t always mean the most productive player or the biggest name on the market. The Colts will be looking for free agents who fit their scheme and culture, and that likely means missing out on some of the top names.

With free agency exactly a month away, here are the best fits at each position for the Colts in 2021:

9 free agent CBs the Colts should consider in 2021

Plenty of CBs for the Colts in free agency.

The cornerback position is one that the Indianapolis Colts will have to address this offseason, and they could look to do so in a similar fashion through free agency in 2021.

With Xavier Rhodes and T.J. Carrie set to hit the market, the Colts currently have a group comprised of Kenny Moore II, Rock Ya-Sin, Marvell Tell and Isaiah Rodgers. There’s promise but even more question marks.

The Colts could look to bring in a veteran on a short deal like they did with Rhodes. It’s likely they are looking at aged veterans or reclamation projects who still have upside. Finding an elite cornerback on the market just isn’t something that happens, but there are intriguing options likely to be available.

Here are nine cornerbacks the Colts should consider in free agency:

The great, good, and bad performances from the SF 49ers 26-23 Week 17 loss

The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Seattle Seahawks 26-23 in their final game of the season. However, plenty had good performances.

In their final game of the season, the San Francisco 49ers once again showed exactly why they deserved to be preseason favorites, but ultimately, why when the playoffs start next week, they will be back home watching. A team decimated by injuries has missed many of their most important players on each side of the ball for multiple games.

On Sunday, against the 11-4 Seattle Seahawks, the 49ers were without at least five starters on each side of the ball. Still, their defense played inspired and shutdown Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson for three quarters. Head coach Kyle Shanahan had a solid play-calling day, with open receivers throughout, but third-string quarterback C.J. Beathard failed to make the right reads on multiple occasions.

By the fourth quarter, Wilson would not be contained for much longer. Aided by a Beathard fumble, the Seahawks scored three touchdowns in the final quarter and ultimately finished on the better side of the 26-23 score. Football is not the sport for moral victories, but the 49ers played like they were as good as the NFC West champ even without some of their best players.
