The ‘Uncut Gems’ creators are making another Adam Sandler movie, and it’s (likely) about sports card-collecting

THIS IS HOW WE WIN.

If you liked Adam Sandler’s role in “Uncut Gems” and want to see him in a similar role again, you may not have to wait too long.

During his press tour for “Hustle” on Netflix, the actor confirmed that he would work on another project involving Josh and Benny Safdie. The two brothers directed him in “Uncut Gems” and he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.

Sandler told Vanity Fair that the plan was to start filming in late winter, and he also revealed that he expects this movie to also be as “intense” as “Uncut Gems” (which is not surprising if you’ve seen “Good Time” or other films by the Safdie Brothers).

While there are not many other known details about the project, we learned a bit more this afternoon (via Deadline):

“Netflix has now officially boarded the untitled feature, which is currently in development at the streamer. Sandler is attached to star with the Safdies writing, directing and producing.

Netflix would not confirm any other details, but sources say the hope is to shoot the project in the second quarter of 2023, which would likely make it Sandler’s next project. One insider close to the project said that start date is TBD as the siblings are still putting finishing touches on the script.

The streamer would also not confirm plot details, though several sources say it is likely set in the world of high-end card collecting.”

Although still unconfirmed, this is definitely a very exciting development!

Adam Sandler congratulates Will Zalatoris, a ‘Happy Gilmore’ caddie lookalike, after win

Will Zalatoris received congrats for winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship from “Happy Gilmore”.

Among the congratulations Will Zalatoris received Sunday after winning the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship was a message from “Happy Gilmore” himself.

Adam Sandler, a comedic actor and “Saturday Night Live” alum whose 1996 film “Happy Gilmore” was a lovable lampooning of golf and the people who play it, sent his compliments to Zalatoris on Sunday evening.

“Congrats Will! I’m happy for you! Happy’s happy for you! Enjoy it all!” Sandler shared on his Twitter account with photos of Zalatoris along with images from the movie.

So, what’s the connection here?

It started more than a year ago when comparisons to Zalatoris and Happy Gilmore’s first caddie began to circulate on social media.

Zalatoris, then 24, embraced the analogy by having a quote from the character — “Mr. Gilmore I’m your caddy” — engraved in his wedge.

Zalatoris defeated Sepp Straka in a three-hole playoff finish in Memphis on Sunday to notch the first PGA Tour victory of his career.

But this isn’t the first time Sandler has acknowledged the golfer.

Zalatoris was the talk of the Masters in the spring of 2021 with a second-place finish as a rookie, one shot behind Hideki Matsuyama.

Zalatoris (and his uncanny resemblance to Happy Gilmore’s caddie) got the attention of the golf-loving Sandler. The actor tweeted to Zalatoris on the Sunday of the final round in Augusta, Georgia, including a photo of Jared Van Snellenberg, who portrayed the caddie in “Happy Gilmore.”

And Zalatoris replied, in character: “If you’re ever in need of a caddie again let me know. I’ll be better this time. I’m always available for you, Mr. Gilmore.”

Adam Sandler and Happy Gilmore were so happy for Will Zalatoris after his first PGA Tour win

Happy Gilmore was so happy for his former caddie.

Will Zalatoris picked up his first PGA Tour victory in a thrilling playoff win over Sepp Straka on Sunday at the first round of the Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs and his former “boss” was very happy for him.

You remember Adam Sandler’s classic golf movie Happy Gilmore, right? One of the fun storylines in golf has been how Zalatoris looks like Happy Gilmore’s caddie. The two had some fun with it back when Zalatoris almost won the Masters in 2021.

Zalatoris, who has finished second in three major championships, sank a couple of huge putts down the stretch and won the playoff with a 7-footer on the third playoff hole to pick up a victory that made LIV Golf look so dumb.

Sandler and Happy Gilmore were pumped for him:

Too good.

Zalatoris does kind of look like Happy Gilmore’s caddie:

Twitter loved it.

The complete list of the 64 NBA stars, legends, coaches and more in Adam Sandler’s Hustle

Anthony Edwards, Boban Marjanovic, Tobias Harris and so many more NBA players are featured.

It is no secret that comedian Adam Sandler loves basketball. His newest film, Hustle, which is now streaming on Netflix, is his longest love letter to the sport yet.

The film is produced by Sandler’s Happy Madison Production in tandem with LeBron James’ The SpringHill Company. It is about a basketball scout who discovers a once-in-a-lifetime player with “a rocky past” (played by Juancho Hernangomez) and the path he takes to the NBA.

Spencer Beighley — the Head of Film at The SpringHill Company and an executive producer for Hustle — explained to For The Win why the movie was able to land so many big names for this project.

“You’re going to see a lot of excellent basketball players in this movie. It was never as easy to get cameos in any movie than it was on Hustle because when you say Adam Sandler’s name, people immediately perk up,” Beighley said.

“All these players, they not only grew up with all of Adam’s movies, but they know that he is a true basketball fan at his core.”

You’ll notice that many of the featured athletes have connections to the Philadelphia 76ers. That’s because, in the movie, Sandler’s character used to work for the organization. The film’s director (Jeremiah Zagar) and writer (Will Fetters) are both from Philly.

Meanwhile, in addition to many of the bigger names, there are also plenty of other non-NBA basketball players who played important roles (including streetball legends like The Professor, AO, and Main Event) as well.

“There are so many hidden cameos that sometimes go so ‘inside-basketball’ that only the dedicated fans are really going to notice,” Beighley added. “I think it’s those cameos that allow this story to feel like a love letter to the game.”

For example, TNT broadcaster Kenny Smith plays an agent named Leon Rich. In case you didn’t catch that reference, LeBron’s first agent when he came into the league was Leon Rose and his current agent is Rich Paul.

There are plenty of other similar nuggets (including Denver’s Aaron Gordon) and easter eggs sprinkled throughout the film to look out for as well.

Before you stream, you can watch a trailer for the movie if you click here. Otherwise, take a look at some of the individuals who you will see on the screen when you watch Hustle.

WATCH: Netflix trailer for new Adam Sandler film featuring Celtics alum Juancho Hernangomez

The former Boston forward plays a prominent role in the film.

It is not just Bill Russell among Boston Celtics alumni getting some love from popular online streaming outlet and production company Netflix — former Celtics forward Juancho Hernangomez‘ new film “Hustle” with iconic comedian and actor Adam Sandler is coming out soon, with Netflix having released a teaser trailer of the finished work to whet your appetite for another basketball-oriented film in which Sandler has a prominent role.

Sandler, who has integrated his favorite sport into several films — including alongside ANOTHER Celtics alumnus in one Kevin Garnett for the film “Uncut Gems” — stars as a scout who sees an NBA player in an overseas prospect played by Hernangomez in the film.

While things might not have worked out for the Spaniard in Boston this season, his acting chops look pretty solid, and we will be checking out this movie upon its release on Netflix soon, debuting on June 10, 2022.

Check out the trailer for yourself in the clip embedded above.
