Robert Saleh has texted every Jets player, met a few at team’s facility

Robert Saleh has texted every single player on the Jets and has met a few in person at the training facility.

Robert Saleh wasted no time acquainting himself with his players.

Saleh spoke to the media for the first time on Thursday and said he’s already reached out to every single Jets player via text. He added that he’s met a few players in person while they were rehabbing from injuries at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center.

Saleh said he will have an “open door” policy with his players, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

The Jets head coach noted in his introductory press conference how important it is to make a “personal investment” in people, especially his players.

“Everybody says this is a business,” Saleh said. “It’s not. It’s a personal investment to people. The most important people are the ones that strap up on gameday and step between the lines.”

He added: “The investment you put in players has to be equivalent to the investment you put in your children.” Saleh openly talked about wanting to see his guys get paid as well.

That’s sure to get some Jets to buy into their new head coach.

Clearly, Saleh is a player’s coach. He offered a different vibe Thursday than the one Adam Gase did during his two years with the Jets. Saleh’s predecessor didn’t always appear to be on the same page as his players, and Gase experienced personnel rifts in New York and Miami.

Now, with Saleh coming in as the new head coach, he has already brought in a breath of fresh air.

Kirby Wilson is the latest name to emerge in Seahawks OC search

Las Vegas Raiders running backs coach Kirby Wilson is the latest name to appear in the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator search.

Reporters have connected the Seattle Seahawks to a number of viable candidates to be their offensive coordinator next season in the wake of Brian Schottenheimer’s firing.

The names that have floated around include Mike Kafka, Doug Pederson, Anthony Lynn, and surprisingly, Adam Gase. However, they just keep coming, and the latest arrival on the scene is Las Vegas Raiders running backs coach Kirby Wilson.

Wilson has a history with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, having served under him during his time with the New England Patriots and USC. He has also had an extensive resume at the professional level since his time with Carroll, working as a running backs coach for several teams from 2002 to 2020.

Wilson could rejoin forces with Carroll in 2021, but like with the other coaches before him, nothing is set in stone yet.

Seahawks speak with ex-Jets coach Adam Gase about coordinator job

Following parting ways with Brian Schottenheimer, the Seahawks have spoken with ex-Jets coach Adam Gase about the offensive coordinator job.

Seahawks fans might want to avert their eyes at this one. With the surprise parting of ways with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, the Seahawks are currently in the market to find a new coach to helm the offense and help find answers for a unit perpetually stalling late in the season.

Seattle recently talked with former Eagles head coach Doug Pedersen about the vacancy, but it appears they are also kicking the tires on another recently dismissed head coach . . . Adam Gase.

Gase was recently fired from the Jets after posting a miserable 9-23 record during his two seasons with Gang Green. Despite being inexplicably dubbed an offensive guru, Gase’s offenses have routinely been abysmal, not just with the Jets, but also when he led the Dolphins – a job he was fired from two years ago.

Perhaps the most damning for Gase’s claim to being a quality offensive coach is with quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Under Gase in Miami, Tannehill’s career seemed destined to be over. Now, in Tennessee and away from Gase, Tannehill is statistically one of the best signal-callers in the NFL.

The Seahawks got an up-close look at Gase’s offense in Week 14 when they lambasted New York to the tune of 40-3. Of course, blowout losses to the Seahawks aren’t new to Adam Gase, as he was the offensive coordinator for the Broncos in 2013 and his offense was dominated by the Seahawks in their 43-8 Super Bowl XLVIII victory.

Of course, not to mention star safety Jamal Adams was a very vocal critic of Gase when he was still with the Jets.

If the Seahawks are serious about fixing their offense, they need to steer clear of a coach who will categorically make it worse.

Jets to hire 49ers DC Robert Saleh as head coach

The New York Jets have hired 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their new head coach

One of the Eagles’ potential head coaching candidates is off the board after Adam Schefter reported that Robert Saleh has accepted the Jets head coaching position.

Saleh has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal after spending the last four years as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator.

Prior to joining Kyle Shanahan’s staff, Saleh was the Jacksonville Jaguars’ linebackers coach from 2014 to 2016.

After taking over a defense that allowed both the most yards (406.4) and most points (30.0) per game prior to his arrival, San Francisco was one of the NFL’s best in 2019, finishing second in yards allowed (281.8) and eighth in points allowed (19.4) respectively.

The Eagles have already interviewed Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady and Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

A candidate to consider: Should Titans OC Arthur Smith be Jets’ next head coach?

Smith helped revitalize the Titans offense in two years, giving Joe Douglas an intriguing option for the next Jets head coach.

The recent success of the Tennessee Titans can be largely attributed to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

The former tight ends coach took a young offense and turned it into one of the best units in the league over the past two seasons. Joe Douglas liked the head-coaching candidate enough to bring Smith to the Jets facility for a second interview. Smith is only the second known candidate to receive a call-back after the Jets held a second interview with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh earlier this week

There are a lot of positives to Smith as a coach and only a few negatives. Here’s a breakdown of Smith as a candidate for the Jets’ job.

Jets complete interview with Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy

The Jets have completed an interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for their head-coaching vacancy

The first interview in the Jets’ search to replace Adam Gase is in the books.

New York completed an interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for its head-coaching vacancy Wednesday afternoon. He is the first candidate to officially interview for the job after the Jets fired Gase on Sunday.

The Jets are not alone in their pursuit of Bieniemy, as the Falcons and Lions have also put in an interview request for him and conducted virtual interviews Monday. Kansas City’s OC since 2018, Bieniemy has interviewed for at least eight head coach openings since the start of the 2019 cycle. He interviewed with New York before it hired Gase.

While Bieniemy doesn’t call the plays in Kansas City, which has been a point of criticism for his candidacy, he has overseen the NFL’s best offense over the past three seasons and worked closely with Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs rank No. 1 in passing yards per game (303.4) and No. 6 in points per game (29.6).

Bieniemy doesn’t have experience as a head coach, but he’s been around the block. He spent time in the college coaching ranks with Colorado and UCLA, while also coaching with the Minnesota Vikings.

Joe Douglas and the Jets are casting a wide net for their search and will not rush such their decision That could help Bieniemy, whose Chiefs could play well into February.

Here are the main takeaways from Joe Douglas’s season-ending press conference.

Joe Douglas had a chance to share his outlook on the Jets’ future on Tuesday as he gets set to embark on his first head-coaching hire.

The Jets’ general manager was disappointed in the team’s performance this season, but Douglas is excited for what the future holds heading into the offseason.

Christopher Johnson addresses head-coaching search, Jets’ future post-Adam Gase

Christopher Johnson shed some light on what’s next for the Jets now that Adam Gase is gone.

Less than 24 hours after firing Adam Gase, Jets CEO Christopher Johnson shared his thoughts on the team’s now-underway head-coaching search and Gang Green’s future.

Johnson discussed what he’s looking for in his next head coach, Joe Douglas’ role in the search, why Gase stayed on so long, and the uncertainty surrounding Sam Darnold and Woody Johnson, among other topics.

The Jets have a lot of questions to answer this offseason, but Johnson sounds confident in the direction his franchise is heading.

Report: Nick Saban considering Adam Gase for Alabama OC opening

Adam Gase will be among coaches considered for the University of Alabama’s soon to be vacant offensive coordinator position.

Some helpful connections may help Adam Gase find a new job sooner rather than later.

The University of Alabama is considering Gase, along with former Texans head coach Bill O’Brien, for the team’s soon to be vacant offensive coordinator role, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. Alabama’s current OC, Steve Sarkisian, has accepted the head coach position at the University of Texas and will take over following the College Football Playoff National Championship next Monday.

Gase is a Nick Saban disciple, having worked for the head coach at two different stops. Gase began his coaching career as an undergraduate student at Michigan State, working as an assistant to the coaching staff. Gase followed Saban to LSU, where he served as a graduate assistant before becoming a defensive assistant from 2001-02.

Alabama has one of the most potent offense’s in the nation, leading the country in yards per play (7.84) and offensive touchdowns (72). As for Gase, his offense in New York left a lot to be desired. In 2020, the Jets offense ranked 32nd in yards per game, 31st in passing yards per game, 23rd in rushing yards per game and 32nd in points per game.
