UFC on ESPN 58 fighters took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay, a program that continued after the UFC’s deal with Venum.

LAS VEGAS – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 58 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $116,000.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC on ESPN 58 took place at the UFC Apex. The card aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,580; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $58,000 while title challengers get $58,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-58 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

Fugitt (9-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will hope to continue his recent trend of trading wins and losses, at least for this fight, considering he’s coming off a submission loss to Mike Malott last year. A win would not only continue his trend, but get him back to .500 in the UFC. … Quinlan (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will also be fighting to get back to .500 in the UFC, but enters as a loser of two straight fights. His lone UFC win came in his debut against Jason Witt in August 2022.

Considering that this is the only fight on the card north of 155 pounds, I can only conclude that the UFC matchmakers are trying to passive-aggressively stick it to their former overlord Joe Silva and his surefire method of opening main cards with lightweights or featherweights.

Nevertheless, in Mick Maynard and Sean Shelby’s defense, this welterweight matchup between Fugitt and Quinlan should be all action for as long as it lasts.

Quinlan stormed onto the scene with an emphatic knockout of Jason Witt in his UFC debut. Since then, Quinlan has struggled to get a win in the octagon, recently losing to southpaw Danny Barlow.

Standing in Quinlan’s way this Saturday is another UFC-level southpaw in Fugitt.

Despite typically coming in as the underdog for his janky style and unassuming demeanor, Fugitt is a deceptively well-rounded fighter who is often better than given credit for. That said, Fugitt’s traditionally porous defense could spell disaster against a power hitter like Quinlan.

For that reason, I’ll semi-reluctantly side with Quinlan to win by knockout in Round 1.

The oddsmakers and the public are slightly favoring the Nevada-based fighter, listing Quinlan as a slight favorite at -125 and Fugitt slightly better than even money at -102, via FanDuel.

UFC 289 post-event facts: Charles Oliveira sets all-time bar for finishes, bonuses

The UFC made its long-awaited return to Canada on Saturday with UFC 289, which took place at Rogers Arena in Vancouver and featured a clean sweep of results from fighters competing out of “The Great White North.”

Despite the Canadian success, it was a Brazilian who closed the show strong. UFC 289 video: Mike Malott submits Adam Fugitt, completes Canadian sweep in Vancouver

The UFC’s first Canadian card since 2019 was a good one, as the home-born fighters went 5-0 on the night.

The first UFC card held in Canada since before the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak turned out to be a faultless one for the home country fighters.

[autotag]Mike Malott[/autotag] was the fighter to complete the clean sweep for the Canadian fighters, as Saturday he submitted [autotag]Adam Fugitt[/autotag] on the pay-per-view main card of UFC 289. The card was held at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Malott (10-1-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) clubbed Fugitt (9-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) with a two-punch combination before he sank in a deep guillotine choke. Malott rolled into mount, squeezed, and got the tap.

The win was the fifth for Canada-born fighters Saturday with Marc-Andre Barriault, Jasmine Jasudavicius, Aiemann Zahabi, and Kyle Nelson also victorious at UFC 289.

After the fight, Malott cut a Canada-centric promo on the mic, in which he claimed stake to the event for his home country.

The victory moves Malott’s winning streak to six, while Fugitt picks up a loss after a TKO win over Yusaku Kinoshita in February.

The Canadian has been on a roll, winning each of his 2 UFC fights, and not wasting any time in each of his past 5 professional bouts, ending each fight with a 1st-round win.

Still, we have to get a little creative, as Malott on the 2-way line is too expensive. Instead, MALOTT BY KO/TKO OR DQ (+200) for a chance to double up is more attractive.

Adam Fugitt enjoys UFC 289 ‘gatekeeper’ role against Mike Malott: ‘I’m here to mess that up’

Adam Fugitt hopes to spoil the party and pull the upset against Mike Malott at Saturday’s UFC 289 in Vancouver.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – [autotag]Adam Fugitt[/autotag] is not naive to how the public, and maybe even the UFC, sees him going into his upcoming fight.

Fighting prospect Mike Malott in his home country on the main card of the UFC 289 pay-per-view, Fugitt (9-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) knows the Canadian is being set up to shine, and he can’t wait to spoil those plans.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Fugitt told MMA Junkie at a UFC 289 news conference Wednesday. “I don’t know if it comes with any more pressure, just because it’s the same story. It’s the classic story for me. I was brought in to face the hometown guy, the favorite, kind of the gatekeeper, as you could say.

“So I don’t think it’s any different. It’s the same story line, and I’m here to mess that up and steal some hype, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity. Like you said, there’s not many people that are in this position. (It’s my) third fight in the UFC and I’m on the main card, so I couldn’t ask for a better spot.”

Fugitt joined the UFC last year in July and two fights in and he’s already fighting on a pay-per-view main card right behind the co-main event between Beneil Dariush and Charles Oliveira. For Fugitt, it’s one less thing on the bucket list.

“It’s huge, it’s a dream come true,” Fugitt said. “I want to be on main cards. I want to be potentially in main events. I don’t want to be stuck around the bottom. I couldn’t ask for a better situation, to be honest.”

As far as the matchup against Malott (9-1-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), Fugitt knows he has a tough task in hand, but he’s more than confident he will deliver come Saturday.

“We’re both finishers,” Fugitt said. “I see a major opportunity for both guys in there, but I just got to stick to my style of fight, working at my pace and my space. We’ll see how this ends up, but I’m more than confident in myself. I’m confident against anybody in there.”
