Former Panthers OT signed by Washington Commanders

Another former Panthers player has found a new home after recently being released. This time, it’s OT Aaron Monteiro joining Ron Rivera in Washington.

Yeah, yeah . . . we’ve seen this story with ex-Carolina Panthers before. Once they’ve departed Charlotte, they either head towards former defensive coordinator Sean McDermott in Buffalo or former head coach Ron Rivera in Washington D.C., right?

Well, now we have yet another recently released player migrating up north. But the thing is, he was never around in Carolina with the guy he’ll be suiting up for.

Offensive tackle Aaron Monteiro has signed with the Washington Commanders, as announced by the team on Monday afternoon. Monteiro was released by the Panthers on May 12, alongside wide receiver Aaron Parker, during their effort to get down to the 90-man roster limit for the start of rookie minicamp.

The 6-foot-6, 315-pound hog molly signed into the NFL with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2019. It wasn’t until 2020, when Rivera was out and Matt Rhule was in, that Monteiro became a Panther.

Monteiro, however, will have the chance to latch on with “Riverboat Ron,” who still doesn’t mind using that familiar pipeline.

Panthers release two players to get to 90-man roster limit

To get to the 90-man roster limit for the start of rookie minicamp, the Panthers cut ties with OT Aaron Monteiro and WR Aaron Parker.

With rookie minicamp set to begin tomorrow, the Carolina Panthers needed to make two more subtractions to hit the 90-man limit on Thursday. And unfortunately for offensive tackle Aaron Monteiro and wideout Aaron Parker, they were the two names that were called.

Monteiro broke into the NFL out of Boston College, where he spent four years as a left tackle. The Brockton, Mass. native then signed on with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2019.

The 6-foot-6, 315-pounder would latch on to a number of practice squads, including Miami’s and New England’s and, of course, most recently Carolina’s. He appeared in one game for the Panthers in 2021.

Parker, like his fellow Aaron, transitioned into the league as an undrafted free agent. The University of Rhode Island inked a deal with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and moved on to the Panthers in 2021. He also appeared in one game for the team this past season.

Panthers release QB Josh Love, bring back OL Aaron Monteiro

The Panthers released QB Josh Love on Tuesday, one week after signing him to the practice squad.

The abysmal play of Sam Darnold has had many fans questioning the future of the quarterback position for the Carolina Panthers. Well, we know one guy who probably won’t be in it.

As first reported by Darin Gantt of Panthers.com, the team released quarterback Josh Love on Tuesday. The release comes one week after Carolina signed the 25-year-old to its practice squad.

Love entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020. The San Jose University product was named the MWC Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, as he passed for 3,923 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Head coach Matt Rhule said Love’s signing, at the time, had nothing to do with Darnold’s questionable status leading into the Week 9 matchup against the New England Patriots. Love was, apparently, someone the organization “liked” well beforehand.

Unfortunately for him, Rhule and the Panthers didn’t like him enough. But they do, apparently, like offensive lineman Aaron Monteiro—who was brought back to the practice squad in place of Love.

Panthers injury update: G Deonte Brown leaves game vs. Colts with ankle injury

Panthers sixth-round rookie G Deonte Brown is questionable to return to action today after sustaining an ankle injury.

While some rookies are showing out for the Carolina Panthers—with Terrace Marshall Jr., Chuba Hubbard and Tommy Tremble particularly of note—some probably aren’t having the debuts they had hoped for.

Sixth-round pick Deonte Brown left this afternoon’s game with an ankle injury. The guard’s status to return, at least by the time of the break, is questionable.

Fellow offensive lineman Matt Kaskey (foot) has also been hit with the questionable designation.

Aaron Monteiro and Mike Horton took over for the injured pair.

Panthers make a few practice squad moves Saturday afternoon

The Panthers elevated DT Woodrow Hamilton to the active roster and signed two more free agents.

The Carolina Panthers shifted around a few players on their practice squad early Saturday afternoon.

Following the news that defensive linemen Kawann Short (foot) and Yetur Gross-Matos (concussion) would sit out Sunday’s divisional matchup versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team brought up Woodrow Hamilton to the active roster to provide depth on the interior line. Hamilton spent the last season on the Panthers practice squad and looks to do the same this year, but with some weekly appearances on the active roster from time to time.

As for the other moves, the team hosted kicker Kai Forbath for a visit not long after releasing practice squad kicker and punter Kaare Vedvik. Although rookie punter Joe Charlton had a good game versus the Las Vegas Raiders last week, Forbath is a good insurance policy for the team in case all doesn’t continue to go well for the undrafted free agent.

The other signing to the practice squad was cornerback Trumaine Johnson, who visited with Forbath and will now take defensive back T.J. Green’s spot on the 16-man squad. Offensive lineman Aaron Monteiro was also released, an expected move given that Carolina is still carrying three other players at his position on the practice squad.
