Oklahoma Women’s Basketball hosting No. 1 prospect on official visit

The Oklahoma Sooners are hosting the No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting class, Aaliyah Chavez on an official visit.

Oklahoma Women’s Basketball and head coach [autotag]Jennie Baranczyk[/autotag] are hoping to build off of another tournament appearance in their first season in the mighty SEC. They landed one of the top players in the transfer portal in forward [autotag]Raegan Beers[/autotag], and are in the running for the No. 1 player in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag], [autotag]Aaliyah Chavez[/autotag].

Chavez, who is in Norman for an official visit this weekend. According to On3, her current top schools are Texas and Texas Tech, but Oklahoma remains a possibility. Other schools in pursuit are defending national champion South Carolina and West Coast power UCLA.

Citing sources, On3’s Talia Goodman shared that NIL is likely to be a significant factor in Chavez’s recruitment. But you can never underestimate the power of a great recruiting visit.

Over the Summer, Chavez told On3 of the Oklahoma Sooners, “It’s not too far from home, and I love coach Jennie [Baranczyk]. She’s the head coach that I usually talk to. She’s very young, and I like how they just play basketball. They don’t try to force anything – no sets. They just go out there and play basketball.”

Chavez went on to say that she wanted to play for a place that allowed her to have high energy and for a coach that didn’t have “low energy.”

The 2023-2024 Gatorade Girls basketball Player of the Year averaged 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.5 steals for Monterrey in Lubbock, Texas as a junior.

She’s a dynamic point guard who can facilitate the offense but also dominate the game with her ability to work to the basket as well as shoot from every area on the court.

Oklahoma will have to make a strong impression this weekend with Chavez to put them at the front of the recruiting race for the top player in the class. Baranzcyk and her staff have done a really good job on the recruiting trail and this is a huge weekend for the program to take another strong step toward being a national title contender.

No.1 recruit Aaliyah Chavez makes an appearance at Texas vs. Mississippi State game

As the Longhorns improved to 5-0, Aaliyah Chavez, the top recruit for women’s basketball in the 2025 class, was in attendance

On Saturday afternoon, the Texas Longhorns started SEC play with an impressive win over Mississippi State. As the Longhorns improved to 5-0, Aaliyah Chavez, the top recruit for women’s basketball in the 2025 class, was in attendance. Last week, Texas reportedly became the front-runner to land the talented guard.

In 35 games for Monterey High School last season, Chavez averaged 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. Due to her play, the Texas native received over 27 Division 1 Scholarship Offers. While a few top football recruits were on campus, Chavez’s sighting dominated headlines.

Landing Chavez would be a massive win for the Longhorns. She has shown the ability to be an above-average scorer and lead an offense. With her in the mix, the Longhorns would be hard to stop.

While Chavez is in no rush to make a commitment, she has been impressed by what she has seen from the Longhorns. At the Run 4 Roses in Louisville over the summer, the Monterey High School product spoke about her interactions with the Longhorns.

” They were one of my first offers too, so just keeping them in,” Aaliyah told the media.” They’re close to home. They recruit me well. I think I talk to them almost every day, and they always have high energy.”

Over the next few weeks, Chavez will be a player to watch. Whatever program she chooses will get a player with a special college career ahead.

The Longhorns are reportedly the front-runners to land five-star guard Aaliyah Chavez, according to Talia Goodman of On3 Sports

On Monday afternoon, Longhorns women’s basketball received encouraging news on the recruiting front. The Longhorns are reportedly the front-runners to land five-star guard Aaliyah Chavez, according to Talia Goodman of On3 Sports. Getting a commitment from Chavez would be a significant development, as she is the top-ranked prospect in the 2025 class.

The talented guard made an unofficial visit to Texas last October and has scheduled another trip for next month. While plenty of schools have shown interest, Chavez spoke highly of the Longhorns at the Run 4 Roses in Louisville over the summer.

” They were one of my first offers too, so just keeping them in,” Aaliyah told the media.” They’re close to home. They recruit me well. I think I talk to them almost every day, and they always have high energy.”

In the summer, Chavez had reduced her list of schools to six. The schools that made the final cut were Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Texas Tech, South Carolina, and UCLA. However, LSU is reportedly out of the running because Chavez has requested over a million dollars of NIL support.

Over the next few months, Chavez will be a player to watch. Last season, she averaged 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 35 games for Monterey High School. Due to her play, Chavez saw her stock skyrocket, and she received over 27 Division 1 Scholarship Offers.

While Chavez has said she is in no rush to make a commitment, the Longhorns will do everything they can to ensure that her college career starts in Austin.

Aaliyah Chavez reveals why she likes UCLA amid final six list

Aaliyah Chavez dishes on why she likes UCLA.

The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team is in the running for Aaliyah Chavez, who is the No. 1 player in the Class of 2025. The other finalists are Texas, LSU, South Carolina, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma.

Chavez revealed what she likes about each program, per Talia Goodman of On3.

“I’ve never been to California, so I want to take a visit there for sure. I like the way they play… They’re not slowed down. They’re recruiting me very well.”

Chavez plays high school basketball in Texas, so the Longhorns and Red Raiders might emerge as the favorites if she wants to stay close to home.

But, she admits she likes the way the Bruins play, and is looking forward to taking a visit to Westwood.

If Cori Close and her program can find a way to lure Chavez to Westwood, it would be a huge recruiting boost going forward, especially for a team that has top-10 buzz going into the 2024-2025 season.

Oklahoma Women’s Basketball in top 6 for No. 1 player in 2025

The Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball team made the top 6 for one of the best players in the 2025 recruiting class.

Coming off of their second-straight NCAA tournament appearance, Jennie Baranczyk and the Oklahoma Sooners find themselves in the middle of a big-time recruiting battle.

On Tuesday, the Sooners were included in the top six for point guard Aaliyah Chavez out of Lubbock, Texas. Chavez is considered the No. 1 player in the nation, according to On3.

The Sooners were included along with some of the heavy hitters in women’s college basketball like South Carolina, LSU, Texas, UCLA, and Texas Tech.

South Carolina, fresh off an undefeated season and their second title in three years will always be tough to beat in a recruiting battle with Dawn Staley at the helm. LSU won the national championship in the 2022-2023 season.

But Baranczyk and the Sooners have created a culture and established a style of play that’s caught the eye of prospects across the country.

“It’s not too far from home and I love coach Jennie [Baranczyk],” Chavez told On3. “She’s the head coach that I usually talk to. She’s very young, and I like how they just play basketball. They don’t try to force anything – no sets. They just go out there and play basketball.”

This won’t be an easy recruiting battle, but Baranczyk and the Sooners are in a good spot at this point. Now they just have to keep their pitch going

LSU makes the final 6 for top 2025 recruit Aaliyah Chavez after recent visit from Kim Mulkey

The Tigers are trending for Aaliyah Chavez, and they made the cut as she trimmed her list down to six teams.

[autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] has been aggressive in recruiting point guard [autotag]Aaliyah Chavez[/autotag], the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class.

Chavez scored 34 points in the Nike Nationals semifinal on Sunday, and Mulkey was in attendance to check on the Lubbock, Texas, native. Shortly after that visit, LSU made the cut on Tuesday for Chavez, who announced a final six consisting of Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA and South Carolina in addition to the Tigers, according to On3’s Talia Goodman.

LSU is trending for Chavez after hosting her for an unofficial visit in June and is now considered the favorite to land her.

“They’ve recruited me very well,” Chavez said of LSU, per Goodman. “I think I talk to at least an assistant coach every day. They definitely talk to my parents a lot. They’re also a winning program, and I would love to win… [The visit] was fun. It was definitely different than the other visits. They had all the girls there when I was there, so they were in my photoshoots. It was definitely a different vibe. I like their energy as well – at the photoshoot, it was so high. There was no low energy at all.”

Mulkey was also there to check on [autotag]Bella Hines[/autotag], a four-star point guard and top-25 prospect who is already committed to the Tigers.

UCLA women’s team in final six for top 2025 recruit

UCLA is one of the finalists.

The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team is in the running for the No. 1 player in the Class of 2025, Aaliyah Chavez. According to Talia Goodman of On3. Chavez has narrowed her list down to six programs.

Aaliyah Chavez, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2025 released her top six schools. The six programs she included are LSU, Texas, South Carolina, UCLA, Texas Tech and Oklahoma.

The point guard had 10 schools previously but dropped USC, Arizona, Tennessee, and Ohio State from consideration.

Chavez went on to speak about the recruitment process and what she is looking for in the future:

“The most important thing is to make sure I’m in a place where I have high energy,” Chavez told On3. “I don’t want a coach that’s low energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time [I am]. I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years… I want them to be there all four years. Because that’s what I’m getting recruited off of, right? I want to be there all four years.”

The good news is that she plans on being there for four years, although things can certainly change. Nonetheless, UCLA being in the running is a huge testament to Cori Close and her program.

LSU women’s basketball the favorite to land 2025’s top overall recruit

LSU is the favorite to land the top recruit in the 2025 class.

[autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] is an elite recruiter. She’s won several national championships by assembling teams of future WNBA stars. At LSU, it’s been more of the same, with Mulkey building one of the best recruiting staffs in the country.

Mulkey and Co. are working on landing one of their biggest pieces yet in 2025 five-star [autotag]Aaliyah Chavez[/autotag]. According to On3, Chavez is the top recruit in the class and per its Prediction Machine, LSU is the favorite to land Chavez at 62%.

The next closest school is Texas Tech, all the way down at 5%. Chavez broke down her top schools for On3 earlier this month.

“They’ve recruited me very well,” She said of LSU, “I think I talk to at least an assistant coach every day.”

Chavez said LSU is a winning program, something that’s important to her and cited the high energy she witnessed on her visit to Baton Rouge.

LSU already has an elite guard on board this cycle with Bella Hines, but Chavez would propel LSU’s class to another level. The Tigers remain involved with [autotag]ZaKiyah Johnson[/autotag] too, but LSU will have to battle Kentucky on that front.

[autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] is preparing to enter her fourth year at LSU. Her program is firmly established as one that recruits can come to reach the next level. The success [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] is having as a rookie in the WNBA can’t hurt either.

Ohio State women’s basketball in running for No. 1 player in the country

This would be a massive addition #GoBucks

The Ohio State women’s basketball team may be on a bit of a rebuild this season, but Coach Kevin McGuff is working on filling some missing pieces. One of those may come with the No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting class, Aaliyah Chavez.

The Buckeyes lost Jacy Sheldon and Celeste Taylor to the WNBA and had several others enter the transfer portal including Ricki Harris, Emma Shumate, and Diana Collins. But McGuff brought in a highly rated crop of new freshmen this year to go alongside returning junior Cotie McMahon.

Now it seems OSU is in a good spot to land the No. 1 player in the country. Chavez recently trimmed her list of schools to ten which included the Buckeyes. Joining Ohio State were Arizona, LSU, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, and USC.

Ohio State got in on Chavez early as the coaching staff has been recruiting her since her junior high days as an eighth grader. Chavez says she talks to the Buckeye staff all the time saying “They are high energy every time I talk to them.”

The Lubbock, Texas native attends Monterey High School and averaged an eye-popping 37.8 points per game. She was named the Gatorade Player of the Year this past season.

LSU women’s basketball makes the cut for another top 10 prospect

LSU remains in the mix for several elite prospects in the 2025 class.

The LSU women’s basketball team is looking to add to a 2025 recruiting class that already features one top-25 prospect in [autotag]Bella Hines[/autotag], and it made the cut for a pair of players in the top 10 this week.

[autotag]ZaKiyah Johnson[/autotag], a Kentucky shooting guard who ranks as the No. 4 player in the class, announced her finalists on Thursday. On Friday, she was joined by shooting guard [autotag]Divine Bourrage[/autotag], the No. 7 player in the class per On3 from Davenport, Iowa.

LSU is joined in the five-star’s top six by Illinois, Baylor, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Arizona. Bourrage told On3’s Talia Goodman she plans to unofficially visit all six.

In addition to these players, On3 currently views LSU as the favorite for [autotag]Aaliyah Chavez[/autotag], the No. 1 player in the nation from Lubbock, Texas. The Tigers are still looking to flesh out their 2025 class, but it has the chance to be an elite group.
