Community, energy, and style: The history behind Jaylen Brown and 7uice Brand’s new boney Vanson jackets

EXCLUSIVE: Jaylen Brown, 7uice Brand seek to disrupt and endure with a new line of Vanson leather jackets made in Fall River, MA.

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown isn’t satisfied with the status quo. Since joining the NBA in 2016, the Georgia native has challenged what has come to expected from a superstar athlete, especially in his pursuits away from the basketball court. This is why Brown demands more of our education system. It’s why he seeks to systematically tackle income inequality in Boston. And it’s why he and his apparel brand 7uice plan to disrupt the conventional with their latest product launch.

Starting on January 5 of this year, Brown and his team will release a new line of leather jackets, available on the 7uice website. It’s a project steeped in history and aimed at bucking the pitfalls of mass consumerism. The jackets themselves are made specifically by artisan craftspeople at Vanson Leather in Fall River, Massachusetts, and are meant to celebrate the region’s heritage of quality and craft.

The design, meanwhile, has its origins in a rebellious chapter of professional motorcycle racing. Unexpected, right?

Over the weekend, Brown played host to visiting fans to celebrate a new line of shirts.

The line snaked down Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood as fans queued in the rain to meet Brown and grab some new gear. Brown signed autographs and talked with fans as they rolled through the store, posing for selfies and sharing laughs with visitors to the establishment. Johnny Earle, the man behind Johnny Cupcakes, was also in attendance greeting eager fans and taking photos. Earle and Brown were all smiles as the event came to a close late in the afternoon, marking just the beginning of what is an exciting project.

The partnership of 7uice and Johnny Cupcakes wasn’t the only exciting collaboration that Saturday. Celticswire was able to link up with photographers Ermis Martinez and Aaron James to capture some of the best moments from the event. Many thanks to Martinez and James.

On Saturday, Brown hosted an event in the city’s Back Bay neighborhood to celebrate the launch of the new partnership. Brown signed autographs, took pictures, and modeled some of the new shirts for folks who showed up to check it out.

Brown has stayed busy off the court since joining the Celtics in 2017. He’s worked with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University to advance his educational goals and has helped provide opportunities to underserved youth through his 7uice Foundation in Boston and beyond. Through his 7uice apparel brand, meanwhile, Brown has worked to connect to the city’s cultural landscape.

Creative director for 7uice Malclom Durr explained that working with Johnny Cupcakes helps Brown’s mission of doing exactly that.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown opens up about rocky start, positives of life in Boston

Boston and Brown have grown closer as they have gotten to know one another, and have found more than a modicum of success together.

The city of Boston and Celtics star wing Jaylen Brown did not exactly get off on the right foot when the team picked up the Cal alumnus third overall in the 2016 NBA draft, the crowd actually booing him when his name was announced. But since then, Boston and Brown have grown closer as they have gotten to know one another, and have found more than a modicum of success together.

Speaking at his second annual 7uice Foundation Gala at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Bally’s Brandon “Scoop B.” Robinson spoke with the Celtics star about how his rough start in the city was transformed by locals reaching out to him, and people doing good work in the community among several other topics.

“Where do I start?” said Brown in response to what he’s learned from being in Boston. “I am learning a lot, man.”

Jaylen Brown, 7uice honor life and legacy of late Terrence Clarke

Jaylen Brown and his lifestyle brand 7uice celebrate the life and memory of Terrance Clarke with a new limited-edition shirt.

Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown continues to honor the life and legacy of the late Terrance Clarke, a Dorchester, MA native and basketball phenom who died in 2021 at the age of 19. Brown and his apparel brand 7uice continue to work with Clarke’s friends and family to expand on Clarke’s legacy, this time with a limited edition t-shirt.

Clarke was born in Boston and played basketball growing up in southern New England. In that time and during his lone year at the University of Kentucky, Clarke built a strong friendship with JaylenBrown, one that blossomed into a relationship beyond basketball.

Brown has worked to celebrate Clarke since his passing in April of 2021. For example, when a community center in Roxbury, MA named a court after Clarke, Brown spoke at the event. Now, Brown is further honoring his late friend with a limited-edition Terrance Clarke shirt, released in collaboration with Clarke’s family and foundation.
