The New Orleans Saints are down, but they aren’t out. At least not when the NFL playoff picture is concerned. Because the NFC South is so weak from top to bottom, the Saints are still in the hunt for a division title despite their 4-8 record and last-place standing.

According to the NFL playoff odds at FiveThirtyEight.com, they’re going into Week 13’s game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an 8% chance of qualifying for the postseason. So how does that outlook change with a win, loss, or draw? Let’s explore:

Vikings Super Bowl odds drop after Sunday’s loss vs. Cowboys

The Vikings Super Bowl odds went down after Sunday’s loss

The Minnesota Vikings were riding high after a huge win over the Buffalo Bills on November 13th. They were looking great in the Super Bowl odds per 538. Going into week 11, the Vikings were sitting in a great spot with 9% odds to win the Super Bowl.

After Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, those numbers dropped nearly in half down to 5%.

These projections are very fluid and change as the data does. The Vikings currently sit at eighth in Super Bowl odds and that is in line with what the betting markets think of the Vikings currently.

The Vikings can change a lot of opinions on Thursday night with a big win over the New England Patriots.

538 has the Vikings as virtual locks to make the playoffs

The Vikings’ playoff odds sit in excellent shape

The Minnesota Vikings control their own destiny and then some moving forward as they enter their bye week with a 5-1 record. It’s not only one game behind the first-place Philadelphia Eagles, the Vikings currently project to be the 30th overall pick in the NFL draft behind just the Eagles and Buffalo Bills.

As we continue to try and answer questions about the Vikings and how they will grow with the first year duo of head coach Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell, keeping tabs on analytical projections of the team are something worth monitoring.

We looked at the 538 Playoff Odds projections last week and they were incredibly favorable to the Vikings. This week, there are even more so. They have the Vikings:

  • Odds to make the playoffs: 92%
  • Odds to win NFC North: 83%
  • Odds to earn a first-round bye: 10%
  • Odds to win the Super Bowl: 5%

This is great news for the Vikings as they try to make the playoffs for the first time since 2019, win the division and earn a first-round bye since 2017 and win the Super Bowl for the first time ever.

538 has Vikings as front runners to win NFC North

The Vikings have favorable odds to win the North after five weeks

The Minnesota Vikings currently sit at 4-1 on the season and the opinions across the league are varied at best.

The latest power rankings have the Vikings between fourth and twelfth. Reason being that their record hasn’t matched their play up to this point, raising questions as to whether or not they are for real or not.

When there are major differences in opinion, it’s sometimes better to defer to analytical models. The good people at Five Thirty Eight have their own prediction model that predicts records, playoff appearance, division title, first round by and to winfthe Super Bowl. In that model, the Vikings are nearly 2:1 favorites to win the NFC North.

The Vikings also have an 85% chance to make the playoffs, 9% chance at a first round bye and a 4% chance to win the Super Bowl.

Considering the inconsistencies in adapting to a new coaching staff, this is a very good sign for the Vikings.
