On Wednesday night, the Southeastern Conference released the 2024 schedules for each of its 16 members. With the addition of Oklahoma and Texas to the conference, the toughest league just got a little bit tougher.

With conference realignment, fans and media alike may have to adjust their expectations for programs moving forward because going undefeated in the SEC may be nearly impossible now.

Outside of the early season home matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs for [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide, the 2024 schedule is highlighted by a handful of tough road matchups.

CBS Sports writer Barrett Sallee recently ranked every 2024 SEC schedule based on difficulty, placing Texas A&M in great position.

The SEC, or if we are keeping it acronym free, The Southeastern Conference, officially announced the 2024 conference schedule on Wednesday night, revealing the first 16 teams slate while the East and West divisions will be thrown in the garbage, but avoid the shredder as nothing is set in stone.

With the new additions of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns, things could get bumpy in their inaugural conference season. Still, looking at the bigger picture, their inclusion provides a litany of future benefits and, most importantly, reignites the Lone Star Showdown vs. Texas A&M for what will be the first time in 13 seasons.

On Friday, CBS Sports writer Barrett Sallee, who comprehensively studied all 16 schedules, released his complete rankings comprised of the toughest to easiest conference schedules while immediately pointing out that Texas will host Georgia, as the Bulldogs could be coming off their third consecutive National Title in 2024.

For Texas A&M, I have agreed, well, with myself that Jimbo Fisher should be jumping for joy due to what is widely viewed as a highly manageable 2024 slate, giving way to Barrett Sallee playing the Aggies at No. 9 behind Alabama and Mississippi State. Here’s what Sallee had to say about the Maroon and White’s 2024 chances.

The home game against rival Texas will be the most anticipated showdown of the year. There’s no doubt about that. The Aggies draw Mississippi State, Florida and South Carolina as three of their road games, which isn’t exactly a gauntlet. However, they only have three true home games since their fourth is the neutral-site game vs. Arkansas.

While some fans may be slightly disappointed that Alabama and Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels were left off the schedule, being able to host the Crimson Tide in 2023 and take a year off from what is usually the most challenging game of the season, the Aggies CFP dreams may finally become a reality much sooner than many of us anticipated.

Twitter reacts to the much anticipated Aggie 2024 SEC schedule release

Schedule release day has been pretty routine over the past few years as fans plan their away game trips around where they want to vacation for a few days, but nothing out of the ordinary.

However, there was an obvious difference for the 2024 release built upon news that the SEC could be getting a few new additions. Then years of speculation ended at 6 pm central on June 14th once the official SEC schedule was released to the public. With the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners now a part of the premier league in all of college football, the natural progression was who would play who, where, and when.

The main storyline around College Station was who would be rewarded with the first home game now that the Lone Star Showdown has been officially renewed. There was a little back and forth between the school’s athletic directors, with Ross Bjork essentially guaranteeing the first game once Texas entered the conference would be at Kyle Field.

A couple of weeks ago from the 2023 SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida, Southeastern Conference commissioner, Greg Sankey announced that the league would be playing an eight-game schedule without divisions in the 2024 season. The changes in conference schedules coincide with the additions of Oklahoma and Texas to the league.

It’s important to remember that the 2024 schedule is just a temporary fix with conference expansion and more changes are likely to come in the seasons ahead.

On Wednesday evening, the conference held a special schedule release on the SEC Network and announced who each team would play during the 2024 SEC football season.

ESPN’s Greg McElroy pampers to Longhorns fans when talking Texas A&M-Texas rivalry feud

As Texas A&M prepares to reignite their rivalry with the Texas in 2024, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy coddled Longhorns fans when chatting about the Lone Star Showdown.

As the Texas A&M Aggies prepare to reignite their rivalry with the Texas Longhorns once the latter joins the SEC in 2024, one ESPN analyst is offering his unsought perspective on the Lone Star Showdown.

In comments shared through Saturday Down South, Greg McElroy addressed the ongoing discussion surrounding Texas’ move to the SEC. More specifically, he chimed in on the debate about where the first game between these two in-state rivals would be played as SEC counterparts.

As it is custom nowadays in the realm of sports media, McElroy fired off a hilarious hot take on the matter:

“So doesn’t that mean that the next iteration of Texas against Texas A&M should be played in Austin? That’s the way I see it. At the same time, ‘Well, you just brought in our big rival to the conference so you should get us a make good, and you should play the game in our backyard.’ I don’t agree with that.”

The former Alabama quarterback doubled down on his take by claiming the Aggies have an “inferiority complex”:

“Stop playing this inferiority complex, stop. Here’s what I would say if I were Texas A&M: I would say anytime, any place, anywhere we’ll play the Longhorns, we’re just glad to have the rivalry back. And we’ll stomp on them when we get our opportunity.”

Playing the “inferiority complex” card offers a good chuckle considering the sheer volume of Longhorns fans taking to social media to celebrate any type of Aggies loss. It’s almost as if for the Longhorns fanbase, the latter equates to a title, which may be all well and true given that Texas hasn’t won a Big 12 championship since 2009.

Then again, Aggie fans have patiently waited for the Longhorns’ return to the mountaintop ever since Sam Ehlinger emphatically claimed, “We’re baaaaaaaack!” at the 2019 Sugar Bowl. Here we are four years later and if that doesn’t scream “inferiority complex” then I don’t know what does.

With increasing buzz that Kyle Field will play host to the Lone Star Showdown in 2024, the Longhorns should use the time ahead of them to get out their gripes and whines while they still can.

The Aggies and the raucous 12th Man will show up and put an exclamation point on this rivalry where it truly counts: on the gridiron.

Predicting Alabama football’s eight SEC opponents for the 2024 season!

Last week at the 2023 SEC spring meetings in Destin, Florida, Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey and the members of the conference decided to keep an eight-game conference schedule for the 2024 season even with Oklahoma and Texas joining the league.

Despite keeping an eight-game SEC schedule, one major change will take place in 2024. The conference will do away with divisions.

With that announcement, I thought it would be fun to put together a prediction of who [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide could face in the 2024 season.
